It was a hack, and it's very stable now, One thing you should know is that, most of these p2p platforms go through some difficulties at first, Localmonero did, localbitcoins did and that's what made them stand strong before they shutdown after years.
OpenMonero has been running for 12 months only, so it doesn't make much sense to shut down a profitable platform and exit scam with barely $20k.
Regardless of whether or not the allegations that you rug pulled are true or not (your description is moderately convincing but that would obviously depend on who the hosting provider was), the fact that you lost basically the entire fund during the hack is bad for business. Honestly, do you really think somebody would use a trading service if they knew that it was completely drained before, especially so recently? Let's say it was another service, maybe KYCNAH or something. Would you trust such a site with your Monero?

I'm inclined to believe this wasn't an exit scam after reading through the announcement OpenMonero made on Dread. It seems like they're not behind it, although the hack does raise serious questions about the service's future credibility. One thing I would like to know from OpenMonero is how this is going -- its been a week since they posted this (on Dread): We’ll refund all affected users once the platform has collected enough arbiter fees. Accomplishing this goal will go a long way in restoring faith in the platform.

Accomplishing this goal will go a long way in restoring faith in the platform. The problem is that from the beginning, they started off on a bad note, plagiarizing content off localmonero a service that had just voluntarily shutdown. They were hoping to ride on the past glory of localmonero and profit out of it with deceit. Even localmonero was against their moveAnd then afterward, they just deleted their ANN that had some constructive criticism. I don't think if it can be easy trusting anything that come out of those folks.

The hacking event is visible in the 'Latest News' section on the official page (see footer)
Removing this warning so quickly in the first place is very shady. After giving it some thought, I really think the hosting provider might have stolen the funds. It felt like a sneaky trap offering affordable cloud servers with impressive performance, only to potentially facilitate malicious activity.
There is no chance some hosting provider steeling Monero. I never heard a single case of hosting providers stealing coins from exchanges claiming to have ''great security''. It was a hack, and it's very stable now
So it was a hack, and Hoisting provider hacked you... It’s pretty funny how this user suddenly shows up here and starts spreading fake comments about our service and calling simpleX a honeypot messaging app says a lot about his shady service ethics It's easy for him to say anything without showing any proof...hosting providers hacks him, and now this dumb statement I'm inclined to believe this wasn't an exit scam after reading through the announcement OpenMonero made on Dread. It seems like they're not behind it, although the hack does raise serious questions about the service's future credibility.
So you believe his story that hosting provider hacked him? Accomplishing this goal will go a long way in restoring faith in the platform.
There was never any faith in this platform, and Monero community knows that. And let's not forget he started this project with blatant plagiarism.

There’s a lot of drama around this hack Honestly, I’ve never heard of a hosting company stealing coins either, it just doesn’t add up. The quick removal of the warning is definitely suspicious, and it’s clear the community doesn’t fully trust the platform, especially given its rocky history.

OpenMonero exchange exit scammed, and between 55 and 200 xmr has been stolen! I've made it clear from the beginning that everyone would get their refunds. The first partial refund was sent out on Jul 18, and you can see the usernames on [t.me/p2p_monero_talk]. As a result, the red notification on [kycnot.me] has been taken down. Also, please avoid saying "up 200 XMR," since that was just an initial estimate based on wallet funds from 6 months ago. The real amount is 78 XMR (~25K USD). The quick removal of the warning is definitely suspicious The red warning on the official website was taken down after we fixed the issue on Jun 16. It was up for about 10 days while we sorted everything out. How long do you think a warning like that should stay up after the problem is fixed? It doesn’t really make sense to keep displaying a big warning once it's all sorted. Do you agree? However there is still a mention of the hack. 1. Go to openmonero.com 2. Sroll down to "Latest News" 3. Read "OpenMonero reopening!" Also, there's a notification at the top of every page for logged-in users showing their pending refund amount. Since the platform is non-custodial, we expect to be able to refund everyone within about 6 months. The refunds are paid out of arbiter fees. Based on the current monthly volume listed on https://openmonero.markets, we think we can process around 10 - 15 XMR in refunds each month. (78 xmr / 15 xmr = 5.2 months = best case scenario)

We’ll refund all affected users once the platform has collected enough arbiter fees. Accomplishing this goal will go a long way in restoring faith in the platform. If they refund all the users then we should remove the red tags or at least change them to neutral.

Honestly, do you really think somebody would use a trading service if they knew that it was completely drained before, especially so recently?
You still don't understand why vendors are trusting the platform? Vendors don't need to deposit the trading amount to publish ads. Its a unique and trust-less trading experience. Hence you can even receive a trade request for 100 xmr without locking the coins upfront, allowing for vendors to test the platform before going all in. Some vendors also just use the platform for marketing reasons, to get in touch with potential buyers, tough this is not allowed in our terms. OM propagates stats on [https://openmonero.markets] , a good indicator are monthly trades and monthly volume; still very low compared to [haveno.markets] however we provide dedicated trust (no malicious pre-lock), privacy (noJS, self-destructing msg), support (tg, session, dread, etc), user experience (LM frontend), and transparency (openmonero.markets). The goal is to reach 1,000 xmr per month in volume. Currently at 350 XMR. The future is bright.

Yes, I am aware of that, but as you mentioned, you are currently focused on getting enough arbiter fees for refund purposes. Via trading fees obviously. So all I'm saying is that once such an amount is obtained and distributed to the users, then the red trust would not make any sense anymore.

OpenMonero cannot be trusted because it started off by plagiarizing content from LocalMonero, a reputable platform that had voluntarily shut down, attempting to profit deceitfully by riding on its past reputation. Moreover, OpenMonero has demonstrated poor security practices, including exposed backend vulnerabilities and database issues causing account access problems, which call into question the competence of its operators. There are also reports suggesting an incident resembling a hack or exit scam, further undermining trust. Additionally, OpenMonero deleted its announcement thread containing constructive criticism, limiting transparency and dialogue with users. Together, these factors illustrate a pattern of deceit, insecure management, and lack of accountability, making it difficult to trust anything coming from OpenMonero.

Well said, I agree with you. If you ask me about my trust in this platform after all the red flags and what happened, I would tell you that I lost confidence in them and in their transparency. Even that user responded to the accusations in a very unprofessional manner. He also sent fake negative feedback to everyone who shared their opinion about this service. This only reflects their lack of professionalism in dealing with issues without providing real solutions. Have there been any updates on whether they actually refunded the affected users? Are there any evidence of that?

We don't support OpenMonero. It's a community-contributed service with a clear banner stating it hasn't been reviewed. It doesn't appear in search results or the main list unless users enable the "Community contributed" filter. We've maintained an alert event on OpenMonero since the reported issues began.

No they are not supporting anything. Anyone can submit any project on that websites, by it's not going to be approved by admin or verified, that is all clearly explained on their website. On top of that I never saw openmonero being added on monero.eco website, and there is a good reason for that.

This website pulled an exit scam and stole users funds. They claim that in their botted telegram channel all the users they refunded were actually multiple accounts created by scammers from OpenMonero. Now, this user is trying to target new victims who are unaware of the previous hacks. Stay alert. Additionally, OpenMonero recently carried out a dangerous DDoS attack to KYCNotMe. This person is very harmful and do not engage with them.
