Many of you hear don’t know the important of your seed phrase at all , most folks don't want to focus on the knowledge aspect of cryptocurrency they just want to focus on only making money (and shouldn’t be like that) the knowledge is vital .

The lack of proper knowledge as cost most folks a lot , like a friend of mine that mined $pi save his seed phrase on his phone note ( about 100+ pi but nah only 97 Dey withdraw-able for now ) . So he didn’t set his mind for the worse scenario, and guess what his phone got bad and now he can’t access it he try repairing it so that he can have access to the seed phrase and some important things . According to the repairer he said the problem was the  battery and he got new one but it still couldn’t on the phone , then the repairer discovered that the panel was also among the issue ( according what he told me that the repairer said that once he change the panel is going to lose some important data) don’t know how true the panel stuff is because I have no idea on repairing mobile phone , now we are just hoping for the device to on miraculously so that we can quickly copy the seed phrase.

While the other one someone told me how he lose his bitcoin worth $1k , due to not having the proper knowledge he didn’t even bother to save the seed phrase at all ( you all know that is not like password you can’t retrieve back) is gone and is gone , so they actually stole his phone and the painful thing is that he bought the bitcoin when bitcoin price haven’t gotten to this stage it is now ( I think it was around $60k+) , now he has not only lose his phone he also end up losing his hard earn funds too .

How to keep your seed phrase properly : Write it down in a note , and keep it in safe place (safe from physical attack like water , fire etc) . And put it in a place you can easily remember or access, so that you won’t forget where you put it , because if you lose it you won’t able get it back .


And please if you have any opinion concerning that my friend with faulty device , it will be appreciated. Because I know there’s no way the other is going to get his back , and please try and learn from this so that you won’t make same mistake, losing your hard earn funds is  not funny  at all .

It is advisable to keep your seed phrase safe with a waterproof and fireproof material in case of emergency.  Keeping the phrase in different safe locations is also ideal.

I prefer to use passphrase to extend my seed phrase and I backup the seed phrase on a paper in different locations. You can laminate the seed phrase so it can be resistant to water or encrypt the seed phrase on a stainless steel or titanium steel. I prefer the normal paper because I prefer the seed phrase unnoticeable.

You are correct. I was just explaining that he took the worst decision of not backing up. If he did that, he would have retrieved his seed phrase. Anyway, for emphasis, it is wrong to keep any financial information online, as it can be exposed to criminals very easily.

Same here i prefer using normal paper avoid dragging attention to it , because when we are talking about external attack even people fall under the external attack (lol) , because if you laminate am dem go wan know why the thing Dey so important and stuff .

It's going to cost him some money but if those data/ coins are worth it why not.

 Stop screenshoting your backups, it takes less than 50 seconds to write and less than 60 secs to find a safe location.

While that may have happened to your friend it is not be setting that after the repair of his phone his seed phrase will be gone or recovered but maybe there might be a slight chance for him I recommend he repair the phone first

Pi of that amount should worth around $65 right now. But it is not as easy as you think. There are times that the data may not be recovered but not bad to try it. Have you done it before? I have seen someone fall into this problem before and nothing good came out from it.

You do not expect a random phone repairer without deep data recovery knowledge to give such advice- thy just want to make repairs and take their money.

I've not been in such situation but data in eMMC are 99% recoverable with the right tools. I've had the privilege to witness forensic procedures at the EFCC so yeah even data on burnt devices can be retrieved..

I wouldn't go through these hussles for $65 worth of $Pi coin though.

Why not add passphrase instead and store it in different locations from the seed phrase. That is better than to split the seed phrase which may lead to lost of the seed phrase.

Worth knowing that if the passphrase is lost, the wallet may be lost, especially if long passphrase is used and which is recommended.

I stopped saving seed phrases in digital storage and sometimes, cloud services because of how vulnerable these systems can be. I have experienced it first hand when one of my family member's wallet was drained because he stored it in a cloud service that got compromised.

So a few years ago, I created a new wallet and wrote that the seed phrase in a notebook with a semi-hard cover and never looked back since. It's not the best way due to the presence of physical accidents/attacks but at the end of the day, its the safest at the moment.

I think for coins like pi which not everyone had taken seriously because of its mysterious time of launch, a lot of people didn't bother storing their keys properly. They took it as something that may never even be launched judging from the length of time it took them to finalise the coins listing..
Nom the less, I knew alot of people who lost their keys to their pi tokens.

Also no matter how hard it is for you to store your key, avoid any thing that has to do with storing them online. The moment you expose your keys to the internet, they already are vulnerable and the chances of being safe becomes nearly zero.

This will definitely going to be a life lesson , am sure that next time he won’t allow such to repeat it self again . Base on the look of things is not gonna be easy to find a good or forensic repairer and the process may even cost more than the $pi base on the recent value, but is still good to know that we have some skill repairers that can fixed stuff like that while  preventing loss of data .

Yeah storing your seed phrases on digital storage will only make your seed phrase to be a target to hackers, which can also lead to loss of funds , one just have to be conscious cautious with he or her seed phrases now what my friend can do is to prevent such from happening while hoping for the phone to give him one more chance to just copy out the important stuff before the phone is gone for good , now is planning to get a new one it was because of the coin in that faulty device that’s why his still ways to fix it but if the data is going to wipe then there’s no need for him to fix it .

I saved important apps on external storage which were accessible on some other android device but lost them due to processor and motherboard problems. Really unfortunate situations that you got here this is the most reason why we on this forum has been clamoring for people who are going into crypto currency to always have a full and proper background knowledge of what they are going into because from just looking like what you have said people are more concerned about making money than getting to know the process that is giving them the money even most of the scam victims a majority of them arise due to lack of sufficient knowledge.

When it’s got to do with IOs devices, you wouldn’t find much lock without having your iCloud details. That could save you a lot of trouble as, it could transfer what you’ve got on a damaged device into a new one. You’ll be sure to have backed it up though.

The truth is that, if the young man's phone doesn't come up, all the data he has on that device will just go like that.
