Criticism of my work as a merit source

I would like to ask the community for an opinion, because since I was appointed as a merit source there is a local forum user who first pretended to explain to me what I had to do, and now he has become angry because of how I have given merits to two accounts, which had been inactive, reactivating every so often.

This user has received since waking up +71 merits, specifically those 71 are from this year, and 21 in a single post, by the new source of merits ( Don Pedro Dinero ) who rewards his inactivity with 21 merits in a single post.

So, what's the problem. The guy earned 50 merits this year before I was appointed a merit source and I gave him the merits he lacked to rank up.

My idea as a source of merit is first to circulate merit in the local section, which has been lacking in merit for the last few months. Then, if there is someone who is lacking merits to rank up, especially low ranking users, help them to get the new rank as long as they have been able to get a certain number of merits by themselves. And finally, hopefully as a consequence of these two, the traffic on the local Spanish forum will improve a bit.

Since I am a source of merit I helped Catenaccio to rank up and there have also been some other cases in the local forum where I have given them the merits they lacked according to their activity, in low ranking users, I remember sausalitox who I gave him the 5 merits he lacked to reach member status.

I understand that my action is correct, but since the criticism is so vehement, I want to bring the case to the attention of the community.

You found a post and you felt it was worth meriting. What's the big deal? I think some overthink merits and who should or shouldn't be eligible. It's not like you know 100% if the person is part of a farm, or a scammer, or many other things. You read a post and felt it deserved to be acknowledged. Tell whomever to back off, if theymos has an issue he will remove you.

That's why I wanted to share the case here, because I'm sure theymos will see it. As far as I know he doesn't care much about anything but selling merit, in general. Maybe for merit sources he is a bit more vigilant but I am sure he gives freedom to distribute merits as we see fit.

Since youre appointed as merit source means his trusted you to distribute that to the community fairly. Now if someone ever criticize you on how you gave them, its kinda normal since not all users will agree with things you do. Thats too early I think, but sooner or later some users will react on merit sources action and we just need to show that we are doing it the right way.

Nothing wrong, actually. I even sometimes sent 50 merits to help rank up. As long as I am not abusing the merit system, I am free to send my merits anywhere and in any amount. Theymos really doesn't have an issue when you are spending your merits. It's better than hoarding. You are not obliged to explain to someone where you are spending your source merits except to admins. You just need to make sure you aren't abusing the merit system.

If you feel a post deserves merits or someone needs a few merits to rank up. Then feel free to do so. Some people always will criticise; you really don't need to focus on that. Do your own business; just make sure you are sending merits to the right person, not farmers or merit abusers. I know it's not possible to investigate each merits receiver, but I am telling you to be careful. Just ignore it if you feel the receiver would potentially abuse merits; that's it.

If they complain about amounts, tell them to complain to me. It's best if sources try to exhaust their source allocations, even if it means giving posts higher amounts than is typical. If you have 150 source merit and you only see 3 merit-worthy posts in a month, then I'd rather you over-give each of them 50 merit than let the merit expire. That way there are more people capable of sending merit, and the "merit economy" is less top-down.

If a DT member tags you for something stupid involving merit (ie. probably anything less than selling merit), then they're not going to be a DT member for much longer.

Aside from that, if people complain about whether things deserve merit at all, then that's something to perhaps think about, but if you conclude that they're wrong, then that's that. You don't need to stress about it or defend yourself constantly. It's conceivable that someday you and I will end up disagreeing too much about this stuff and I'll remove your source status, but it's really not a big deal.

I locked this thread in Meta because I thought it made everything clear, but you keep going on and on about it on the local board and on the locked thread. If you have anything to question regarding how I distribute the merits you can do so in this thread. I already told you that what you should do is complain to theymos but since you don't do it and keep complaining in threads here you have this one open for you to say whatever you want.

Man, from my best knowledge so far in this forum merits is not a thing to hoard for so long and as much as you are appointed as merits source it's best you dispatch it to those who are lacking for merits. Ranking up is separate issues and I have seen in our community where local merits source created a thread to help those who lacking few merits to rank up to their next rank, he has been doing it till date and there is no big deal over there.

One thing you must know is that not everyone who will like you for every single thing you do, especially when you are being recognized by the forum or being appointed for a specific thing in the forum, some of them may get angry and pretended to be happy with you while they are not, and the same people are the people who will be looking for fault where you are and, you must "learned to grow thick skin" when such criticism is coming.

Hey man I will tell you for free, do your thing and do not let anyone pressure for any reason.. If they are angry of your source they should go apply as the forum is open for everyone who feels they are qualify to be source to apply, maybe when they are approved as one they will sit and started drawing map on how they should also spend their merits.

Yes, that's the case here.

That seems to me what happens. He and I have had a very good relationship so far. He is the most active member of the local forum since Ddmr retired and I this year am the second. If you notice, we have left positive feedback for each other (his is unreferenced but it's basically for placing bets on the local forum, he acted as escrow and I paid when I lost). Everything has been going well until I was appointed as a merit source.

So Op @Don Pedro Dinero, do not mind anyone who is trying to force themselves into you to do whatever they want without you giving heeds to them, and of course you must not pleased everyone here rather, do what you can and leave the rest for the other source. Merits shouldn't be a thing of fighting for besides the community is open to everyone to apply, so let them go tender their application and wait for approval.

I think this is the biggest problem is that you have allowed an account that was inactive for over 18 months to become a full member, when they should have contributed a lot more value to the forum before ranking up.

This account hasn't done anything to deserve any merit, it's been inactive and made a sub par post, and you decide to give it 22 merit? What stops anyone from thinking that this isn't an account of yours or a friend of yours, and famososMuertos caught you in the act of account farming? That sure is what it looks like to me (not accusing, though no one can deny that this is what it looks like)

Don’t let it bother you, you were appointed as a merit source for a reason, which means the admin trusts your judgment. I’m not exactly sure how it works afterward, but if you’re still getting your sMerits replenished, that’s a good sign they believe in your decisions. I’m pretty sure even before being a source, you were already giving out merits whenever you had some to spare, so just keep doing what you’ve always done.

Being a source (merit) is indeed difficult if it is difficult and easy if it is easy, it becomes a source of merit to be the center of monitoring of other members, What's more in the local parts, many eyes monitor you, there are many different presumptions and understanding what else Merit is given above 10-50, ALT is a special concern for the merit given.

Now regardless of decent posts or not, I know a lot of members who are included in the source of merit, but they are fair without the negative responses from other members, especially local.
How: To be fair without suspicion they give merit 1-2-3 or 4-6 to all members.

Thanks for your opinions but I reopened the thread mainly for famososMuertos. When the thing initially became clear I locked the thread because I thought it was pretty clear and I thought things shouldn't escalate, but it seems he took it as censorship. I'll leave it for another 24 hours in case he wants to say something.

In the end we are two regulars of the local Spanish forum who have gotten along well so far and if he doesn't say anything I'll consider the matter closed, continuing to distribute merits as I see fit.

I agree with this sayings over here. It's normal for more eyes to be on merit sources more than the average user and it's as though some people are literally waiting for you to make a mistake so they can finally say you are unworthy and undeserving of the position.
It's normal that issues like giving merit to an account that suddenly awoke is not taken lightly but I think that those who are calling you out have made some errors or two too.
 Just do your thing and let people be people.

Everyone has different perspective when it comes to giving merits. And even if 99 people agrees, there will always be 1 who would disagree with our decisions in life. So stressing over it would do no good anyway. For me, I like to send merit whenever I like something, sometimes in a form of saying I support or thank you. That's how it's been for me. Also, how many merits you actually sent? Looking at the post it seems 10-15. I mean that's totally understandable, that you were trying to help your local mates. I would have done the same within my ability, if they were close to the next rank.
