I would say that things are only starting to change, so it is not yet too late to stop them. I agree though when you say "it was their game now" . It was like they are late bloomers but isn't it great? Because they are once a hater of crypto/BTC. ETH on the other hand, is said to be centralized even before, so nothing is comprised.
At least, not all hope is lost. For each centralized platform, we have a decentralized alternative. One crypto that has caught my eye is Ethereum Classic. It aims to fulfill ETH's original vision of being the platform for decentralized applications. If developers build "De-Fi" solutions on ETC, it would be a blast. I mean, ETC has very low gas fees and a finite supply of 210m coins. What lacks is a proper marketing/promotion strategy that would help attract retail investors into it. As long as "Wall Street" is out of the equation, true decentralization will be achieved.
My guess is that coins without a spot ETF will perform better in terms of decentralization and censorship-resistance. Despite "De-Fi"'s recent advancements, it still has its limitations. I believe it has a future, now that governments and institutional investors have shown huge interest in it. Who knows? Maybe "De-Fi" will go as far as replacing "Ce-Fi" in the long run. One can only imagine...
