I put my bitcoin on here in 2011and there was no master key bullcrap. You used your account name a different password.
Hmm, with "
On here", are you thinking that Electrum is a custodial wallet?
Because no, your bitcoins aren't saved in a server owned by "
Electrum" or something.
Your private keys are saved exclusively in your old computer in a form of a wallet file in electrum data directory (
folder) and any copies that you made.
The only way to restore those keys to your new computer's Electrum is to use your seed phrase (
set of words) or restore a backup copy of your wallet file.
Old seed should still be compatible with the latest version.
And take note that even in the old versions, users are presented with a message to keep their seed safe.
Here's a reference to the old code:
github.com/spesmilo/electrum/blob/dedb15e2bce128db88289e73f3f7f5e3a488acaf/client/gui.py#L75-L77I am using a new computer, new email address and new screen name but I remember all my user data and password but when I try to sign in it wants to create a new wallet and won't let me into mine. Please help
That password isn't for accessing accounts, that's an encryption password to encrypt/decrypt your wallet file.
