Don't look for excuses to justify your bad decisions. No addict is a victim of anything but their bad choices. Drugs can make things worse, and make you more vulnerable that is for sure but they are not at fault here. I agree that those who are not engaging in gambling won't be addicted to gambling even if they are taking the kind of drugs @OP is talking about.  It only triggers addiction to the things that a person is doing like watching movies, playing chess, or even cleaning the house if the person is fond of doing such things.

This might be unrelated but I read an article of a fitness instructor is that talked about how he takes steroids and the dangers of it, he said one of the side effects is excessive agitation and anger issues but I completely disagreed because if you don't deal with any of these characters you can't just develop them due to whatever you are taking. You'd have to be a gambler and all it does is probably spike up your habits

Let's say someone had Parkinson disease and after he consult with doctor, the doctor gave him drugs. I don't think he will admit if he was a gambler, I mean there's no correlation between Parkinson and gambling, he high likely will focus on his disease instead of thinking with gambling.

You need to know how your dopamine system works first, how it reacts to gambling, drugs, or other addictive behaviors. You can take a little of drug and get affected while someone else might take a complete doze of it and nothing happens to him. This is something new to me, which just gives me the idea that it is very important for us to also do research on the side effects of a drug after prescription because consciousness of the side effects can help you to be better prepared. As far as side effects go, there are pros n cons for every drug on the market and they all go through pretty big clinical trials. Drugs that increases dopamine are not over the counter medications, it is always doctors prescribed and if your treatment is coming from a good hospital it will be managed by the doctors because they know best about side effects. Dopamine enhanced drugs are not what you take often, it can only give pleasure with that short time but not for long before returning to full control state, moreover gambling is not the only thing to engage when it pumps for such feelings.

Strange though as a disntant relative of mine who used to gamble a lot and be more than a compulsive gambler, a helpless person when it come to gambling is contrary proof of this. Once I visited him as he lives in another country in a small city there and he drove me more than 30 minutes of car until we got to a small market that had also national lottery tickets to buy. Normally he wanted to make me go play in a casino but I was with my family so he could not. Now he started taking Parkinsons pills a couple of years ago and since then he has not be found gambling anymore and that is why I found strange such publication from the FDA, may be he is some exception to this.

Right now, I'm just curious whether they just suddenly get a strong urge to compulsively gamble, sex, shopping spree, binge eating, steal, even if they have not done some of the things that was mentioned or if they need to be doing any of those activities for them to become addicted/compulsive to it.
