Hi there!

A few years ago I was introduced to mining through what I knew as a "rig" which I could purchase at different levels ($!00, $250 etc). I started with the $!00 as I was cautious to how it all works and manged to set it up to bring me in a few cents/dollars per day. I then saved up and bought another right which bought in higher amounts etc. However, I was then somehow banned because the person that recommended me had been using people to gain commissions (or something they weren't supposed to be doing) so my account got suspended and I couldn't withdraw my funds. As far as I was aware I was doing everything correctly etc

This put me off the whole mining thing, but have recently wanted to give it another go. As my thread title suggests, I have now forgotten what I did, but these were steps I can remember:

  • s was probably them getting commission)
  • I watched the account daily to see something like $0.20 go in each day
  • I saved up to then buy another right which I earnt commission on - I guess for referring myself?
  • When I got to a certain amount, I would somehow "withdraw" to an OKX account if I remember correctly.
  • I would then sell the crypto through OKX into $USD. I think the crypto was USDT? (Again, I can't remember too much and very new to all this)
  • Once sold, I then transferred to my bank account and job done

Now I have no idea where to start or how to do this process again. I was wondering if there is anyone here that could guide me through in really basic terms how to do what I did above. Or if there is anyone I can actually trust (ideally through recommendations on here) that could provide me with an original referral link (I'm happy to signup as your referral) and then also talk me through the process?

Or are there any websites that will allow me to buy a rig (I assume this is what I need to mine automatically)  for very cheap to start with? I'm happy if I only make a few cents a day, it's just the fun of it and learning I am interested in.

Thanks for your time and I look forward to your replies!

Dude, I don't understand how you were banned and for what.
It is impossible to ban a miner. I bought all the equipment in regular electronics stores or mining equipment stores, and mined coins on pools.
You don't need intermediaries and recommendations.

The most important point is the cost of your electricity and the maximum power that you can use for mining.

Hi,
It wasn't me that was banned, it was the person that gave me a referral link - I don't know all the details. I never had a physical machine or anything, it was all done online somehow - that's what I'm trying to work out what it was. Maybe I hired a mining machine?- could that be possible? All I know is I purchased different priced "rigs" that updated my earnings on a daily basis and then when it got to an amount, I could withdraw it.

Does that sound like anything that can be done? Or any ideas what I would have been doing?

Sorry I'm not much help!

If looks like you were scammed in this case. Mining Bitcoin is done through physical rigs. Now you would need to join a pool to be profitable, but you still need to have your physical gear to generate the computing power needed.

All I know is I purchased different priced "rigs" that updated my earnings on a daily basis and then when it got to an amount, I could withdraw it.

This was probably a cloud mining scam you ran into. You would never have been able to withdraw and I'm surprised you were not asked to send more money to access the locked funds, scammers usually do that

It wasn't bitcoin, it was USDT I think. I did make some profit so don't believe I was scammed. I'm just intrigued what  site it was all done by as I made money even without anything physical

What you are describing, with the small daily earnings and then buying more "rigs" within the platform, sounds exactly like a lot of those old cloud mining scams. Then it is probably already closed because the vast majority of them were scams. These sites were popular in the past, but if you cant find out more details, it is hard to figure out which one it was. The fact you cant remember the site name or much about the "rigs" themselves is a strong indicator that it was one of those short-lived, fly-by-night operations. They pop up, promise easy money, get enough people in, and then vanish with everyones deposits.

Thanks for this as it brings back memories of the time when someone tried to sell me the idea of joining one of those cloud mining sites for just $100 for the basic package. He went on to tell me how his life changed by just joining and how he has made more money enough for him to resign from his join and focus on doing something else.

But I was already too knowledgeable about this cloud mining scams to be cajoled into joining.

That site was short-lived. They don't just vanish, I think to lie low and rebrand into another name and start all over with new sets of beginners interested in mining.

It was a cloud mining scam, these were the norm in 2014-2016 and even after the first bitcoin all time high in late 2017 early 2018. People used to believe hashocean and genesis mining if I am not mistaken, one of them I am sure got away with 5.2 milliard dollars away from investors at their site as I don't remember but it was a hot topic back then. Luckily from that moment on people were well aware that cloud mining sucks, the same with the modern scams of nowadays which are games where you start with a low level like Chicken farm and Rollercoin or alike. As said to you now you know what to expect, if you want to mine buy a mining rig and mine your favorite coin despite that you will be heavily at loss nowadays. I was an enthusiast of mining and I am the last to have shut down my mining rig because simply there is no reason to keep it running.

OP was never mining.  He was scammed by a cloud mining scam.  Same as it ever was.  Either you have the gear and put in the time or you are simply being scammed if you dont physically have the gear.

You weren't mining, that's the main problem.
The fact that you bought virtual ASICs or rigs somewhere on a website doesn't mean you were mining.
I hope you didn't lose much money, but you were a victim of scammers.
If you have expensive electricity and it is not profitable for you to buy mining equipment, then do not engage in virtual mining.
