Bitcointalk Appreciation Thread

Hi everyone.

I wanted to create this thread to appreciate Satoshi, first of all, and then every other admin that we had or still have, including @theymos, for making this forum so free and easy for each one of us, the freedom we have here is truly unmatchable, and I will tell you why this thought came to my mind all of a sudden.

So, a few months ago, I started using the other forum, Altcoinstalks, and I've been active there as well. Since I was fairly new, I still am, in that forum, I didn't know much about how things work there, so one day, for some reason, I wanted to delete a post that I made earlier, and I was surprised to see that I could modify the post, but there was no option to delete it. At that time, I thought maybe the post was in a section where we can't remove our own posts, so I let it go. But today, I stumbled upon something that made me create this thread here.

What I discovered was that they have a Shop there, a place where you can buy features and abilities, badges, special ranks, and whatnot. It's good in general if you are allowed to pay some money to get special features or abilities, but what surprised me was that you also have to make donations or buy special ranks for simple things, such as deleting your own posts or threads:



So, apparently, you have to donate or buy the Patrons rank for 0.05 ETH or more to be able to lock your own topics, donate 0.1 ETH or purchase Royalty rank to be able to move your own topics or remove your own replies/posts, and donate 1.1 ETH or more or have Donor rank to be able to delete your own topics/threads. 

There is a bunch of other stuff that you can see from the screenshot above, or you can check them all for yourself in the Shop. I only mentioned the ones that made me create this thread to appreciate the freedom we have in this forum, because other than some extra features that are added for lower ranks to be able to perform certain things their ranks don't allow, such as the Copper Membership, we don't have to pay anything to do simple things here.

That being said, this thread is less about discussing the shortcomings of the other forum but more about appreciating the freedom and general abilities we get in this forum for being simple, non-donor users.

Altcoinstalks is one of the stupidest forum that I have ever been. The forum is still alive because of the discipline from people on this forum and nothing more. The forum was full of wrong information and dilapidated until this forum banned mixers. Their Karma system is faulty and worst than those social media likes.

Am glad to here how the Bitcointalk is the best.
Only newbies who wants to share images in the forum are allowed to pay for copper membership if not Bitcointalk does not take any payment for badges or anything. And also, donations were made in the early stage but the Bitcointalk forum dont accept donations anymore. What could possibly be better than this?

You are right, I am active on altcointalk and I can say that most and all quality contribution there are all from teleported accounts who's user names I am mostly familiar with from this forum, so for sure, without Bitcointalk forum members, altcointalk will be a dessert place for quality posters.


What I have noticed with the Forum altcointalk also, is that, most of the feature there are directly opposite what we have here for example.


Bitcointalk is Decentralized to some extent, theymos have little involvement with a lot of thing's, leaving the member to act with sense of freedom that align with the core mandate of Bitcoin.



Altcointalk, have an admin that is 100% in control of the Forum who act and members just have to obey, somewhat like a market place where you have to pay for all and almost everything, including deleting your own posts

FYI, Bitcointalk accepted donations too in the past and there are special ranks too called VIP when someone donated 50BTC or above and donator if they donated 10BTC.

The Bitcoin Forum is a website meant to host free discussion of Bitcoin and related topics. It is operated mainly as a service to the community, and the vast majority of income after expenses is either saved for future expenses or reinvested into the forum or the community. The forum was started in 2009 by Satoshi Nakamoto, the original creator of Bitcoin. It is now managed by a dedicated team of admins and moderators.

Long ago, we collected donations. People who donated 10 BTC have a special "Donator" title and a green "who's online" color. People who donated 50 BTC have a special VIP status and the ability to create a custom title for themselves. Both Donators and VIPs also have access to an exclusive forum section. It may seem incredible now, but even though there are many Donators and VIPs, the total donations collected in terms of USD value at time of donation is less than $70 000! Donations were collected back when BTC was comparatively worthless.

Because we are able to operate comfortably using advertising and fee revenue along with our BTC reserves, we no longer collect donations. If you want to help the forum, please make good posts, report rule-breaking posts, and invite friends. If you want to donate BTC, donate it to a charity, or maybe even to your fellow forum members.

Each platform got own way of doing it though so I don't find anything wrong if they have certain limitations there and here we don't have any restrictions to delete our own posts if that's what something appreciate about.

I have also been in the forum, not the best place comparing with Bitcointalk. Since we now have more teleported accounts inside Altcointalk, the development and growth will become much faster because they must try to meet the standard here in Bitcointalk.

Very soon Altcointalk will stop to award those badges through purchase, given important badges too easy can become an easy way for scams.

I don't think altcointalk related issues should be discussed here especially not in this Meta section rather should be moved to off-topic. There is no day can compared both platforms and who cares to buy those rank for any reason, if you post and you don't want it anymore you can modify and write "delete" any moderator who is active could get your post deleted ASAP. To me that forum doesn't worth paying such amount of money to be donator or whatsoever. Very dull forum and slow, almost at all times would keep passing security check. Please if you wanna focused here good and if you wanna focused on that forum then it's better stick over there than trying to compared both which it thing it doesn't worth giving that attention.

The admin there have his own way to do his stuff, sometimes i can't comprehend what his up to, like the secret on how users rank up there, and many more. Those on shop most feature of those should be available on common users, what actually matter there are the VIP donors, have the VIP treatment and its features.

Most of us don't understand the freedom we enjoy in this forum. It is not found in other forums. Theymos himself created a system that could harm him. I saw that theymos was even red-tagged by an ordinary user. This goes a long way to tell how liberal this forum and we shouldn't play with this freedom we enjoy here. Bitcointalk is second to none.

What do you expect? That forum was created not because they love cryptocurrency but for the money. It's unspeakable that some gullible people even compared it to Bitcointalk when mixers were freshly banned, neglecting the integrity difference between the two forums and the reason why they were created.

I would have preferred an appreciation thread for this forum that did not focus on the comparison with another forum. Focusing on how it came about, posts by Satoshi, Hal, and others. On unique moments, like Lazlo's pizza shopping and such.

But as played, I don't see anything wrong with another forum making a living as it can. The other is worse in user experience than this one? Surely it is. And it also has worse traffic. It's like comparing a giant with an ant.

Admin there needs money for operations because maybe they hold too many altcoins which makes them lose, so they still beg, by selling features or membership. LOL

But Admin here doesn't need money, they are someone who is already rich from bitcoin..

To be sincere, the comparison leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
You don't need to look down on another to feel higher.
Yeah I realised some things I took for granted being something that people pay for
But I also understand it's to stay afloat.  

You can't compare Bitcoin and altcoins, likewise Bitcointalk and Altcointalk.
Besides one is .org and the other is literally .Com (commercial).

Aside from history that this forum has, it obviously makes this forum standout but comparision is alright tbh as people only realize worth of things when they are not found, so whatever helps people to see good qualities of this forum I guess.

If we want to talk about the forum, it has a good financial reserve, sufficient to manage its expenses for years without problems, so there's no need for donations. However, compared to the available funds, bitcointalk's development remains limited.

There are numerous discussions about developing the forum, but there is no clear roadmap for the next steps.

Every forum is unique in their own ways, no need for comparison. Perhaps, bitcointalk forum once collected donations for special titles but it was literally during the time when Bitcoin didn't have much value, don't know if it's still available anymore since it will be difficult for a user to make donations of 10 to 50 BTC just to get special titles considering the worth of 10 and 50 BTC currently.

However, just same way you are appreciating Bitcointalk for the things you enjoy freely without payment, a committed Altcoinstalk user might also tell you what they enjoy there as well. I think Altcoinstalk is improving gradually as some members of this forum also have accounts there, though the forum started getting traffic after mixers where banned in bitcointalk, some users here literally moved to the Altcoinstalk forum just to participate in mixer campaigns.

Anything created after the BitcoinTalk forum with similar functions can be called a replica of the product, as is usually called a fake. The altcoin forum already says that there cannot be much useful there, since we know the attitude of many to such coins; moreover, the desire to take some amounts for every breath and exhalation only proves that that forum does not reach the power of our forum. I watched it but did not want to be there for a minute. You should always appreciate originality; replicas or copies cannot be exact-there will always be a quality mark on the original.

Is the reason why you claim that because it was established that the profile you teleported is one of the alts you use on that forum? I'm surprised you wrote hundreds of posts on that same forum before you came to such a conclusion.

Everything you wrote doesn't really make sense to me, because in the same topic you managed to pay tribute to Satoshi, the admin, the forum they created - and try to compare it with another forum that is focused on altcoins. It is true that on both forums there are some options that can be purchased, but what does that have to do with freedom of expression and general possibilities when it comes to both forums?
