AI causes brainrot

A knife that is rarely sharpened can become blunt, especially when talking about our brains, where of course when our brains are rarely used, this will make our brains frozen and stupid. However, this is not the fault of the presence of AI technology but our own fault, and try to ask yourself why we trust robots more than our own brains, even for small things we ask AI, are we really stupid.

if for small things we ask AI then of course this is a laziness in thinking. And this is very dangerous, because this could make them forever dependent on technology and AI. The presence of technology is to make our lives easier, not to become someone lazy and stupid.

One can find all kinds of people out there. Some of them will never advance beyond what they know already. But others will build on their advancement.

There are some math geniuses out there who will barely ever learn how to read and write. In a similar way, a person who exercises his brain building on what AI does for him... this person might have a very difficult time in life if AI happened to disappear. But by building on AI knowledge, he moves far into realms of thought that nobody could access without AI.

As long as AI exists, there will be some people who rely on it without improving themselves. But others will improve themselves using AI in ways that we barely understand.

Just noticed this thread and this is so true. AI is useful thing, but at the same time it's dangerous. People rely on AI way too much, they use it even for small simple tasks, instead of making their brains.
I can say from my perspective that my brain doesn't works like it used to work few years ago. Amount of information that we receive each day is crazy. And now I'm struggling to remember things that happened recently. I imagine how much worse my brain would work if I would start using AI in every step.

I miss those days when we used to have geniuses who were creative and did things on their own by brainstorming and thinking critically. It is now very difficult to spot these creative minds because AI has taken over, and everyone is relying on it. The future may be worse, as all education will likely focus on how to use AI to make work easier, instead of creating something perfect on one’s own.

Even if there are still a few creative individuals, how do we differentiate them from the crowd who only want the easy way out? Definitely, hardwork will no longer pay.

It’s a new technology & the same views are being shared on it like every other new tech that arrives.The same was said about the telephone, the internet, bitcoin. People don’t like change, they like their routine, they don’t like tech they don’t understand because it scares them. AI is going nowhere so you might as well get used to it.

Adding to the really good response quoted below: When you properly use AI the experience can actually challenge and make your brain stronger. For example, working on some complicated code, the de-bugging and needed improvements can be an excellent way to use your brain. In this example, AI helps save time and the person is still doing valuable, important work.

So, there was a study (not yet peer reviewed), and results probably surprises anyone.

Group's brains were measured with a method known as Dynamic Directed Transfer Function (dDTF), that basically measures connections on the brain.
It was measured on using LLMs during tasks, using search engines, and using just their own skills unaided.

And compared to baseline (not surprisingly) LLM group had significant drop in brain activity.

Nature has adopted the "use or lose" method because we have limited resources.  Reduce gravity and your muscles lose mass as they are not needed as much.    But to stop using a tool because it weakens you is silly.   Most people alive have a drop in brain activity when driving since we no longer need to shift gears, monitor speed, check blind spots, etc.  When my mother moved from a washboard to a washing machine, never once did I hear her complain she was losing strength.      And no gen Zer will ever do math on a calculator to keep their brain sharp.   Some things are no longer needed.

So where was this drop in activity?  Wouldn't be everywhere in the brain - probably the areas required for the task AI was doing.  If I have AI write redundant code, the right side of my brain should not be affected.  If it draws a picture, I should still be as sharp in math as I am now.   Some skills are no longer needed.

Finally, nothing is rotting - we are not losing brain ability like in a stroke.   Everything that you lose because of a tool can be relearned if you lose that tool.    Some things are not worth worrying about.

My take from this is that, in a long run, if unaided group would keep using their brains for tasks, they would develop their brain because of training, while AI group would eventually lose even their existing skills (at least when it comes to writing essays). Because if you don't use your brains, those connections on the brains wouldn't be needed either.



There are ways to use AI that benefits people, but using that for your creative work, or anything that needs brains is just killing your brains.

Isn't this what we all want? A means to make life easier. If AI is going to do every job for us, why bother using our human brains? Or are we worried that AI might eventually go extinct and humans will be left stranded because they can no longer figure out anything on their own without the help of AI?

If you all must know, AI is here to stay. Rather than worrying about things that may not be relevant, we should start teaching our kids the proper use of AI so they don't abuse it. They might even figure out on their own things AI can do for us that we are not yet aware of. Enjoy the privilege of having AI around

The brain tends to relax more when it gets easily get things done without being stressed. In the right sense, the brain is not supposed to be kept dormant by allowing things easily without getting it involved in the solution process as it begins to deteriorate or tend to even forget what it already knows

The idea that humans only use 10% of the human brain has been considered as false lately following the most recent scientific discovery.
 Different parts of the brains are put to use at different times but when there is a stretch on the brain it tends to go beyond the limit it is as the moment.

The brain needs constant stretching to develop it as it can also go dormant if left without development
The use of AI in every procedure is a fast and easy way to make the brain weak and dormant it deteriorates easily as it can not creat any thing on its own or be innovative.
