Scammers keeps upgrading to different levels to make sure that the defraud people of their hard earned money, few months ago my friend received some amount of money in his opay account, although the money was much, he wasn't expecting money from anyone, he didn't do business with anybody that could send him such amount of money, he was thinking on what to do, he was very confused for just about a day getting to the second day he received a call from an unknown number telling him that they mistakenly transferred the exact amount he saw in his opay account...

OP, I like this your thread but where I no understand na say them go want you to transfer the money to another account. What if you no gree or no pick their calls to direct them where you dey. That one wey you say them go enter your shop collect many many things say them go transfer am to you later based of network or the app no dey their phone. Na easy matter because you go just tell the person say you no dey sell credit for strangers.

This shop thing happen to my sister. She say one man enter her shop dey order for big drinks half dozen and many expensive thing. She say as she dey bring the things, she dey use corner eye dey look the man before she come observe say the man won thief her phone. Once na e she carry her phone put inside her pocket, after everything, the man come say make she arrange them keep say him go come back. Na so the man loss till today. Everything for life you need to dey smart and think am well before you fall mugu for this local scammers.

Interesting thread @OP. I eagerly had to read till the end to know what to do in such a case which wasn't difficult at all, but my problem is the timing. I read exactly similar case on X(twitter), which was shared by a user. The user narrated how the money came, then he waited for days but didn't get a call from anyone. He ended up going to the station, but things eventually escalated, as per se this same police force behaves in an unpredictable manner. Though, he was later freed, but the matter didn't go well, as he was labeled a kidnapper.

The country keeps getting crazy everyday. We're literally facing the fear of insecurity, and now the fear of going to jail for a crime you didn't commit. I just hope we don't fall victim, and thanks to OP for raising the awareness.

This kind of strategy looks like what will eventually back fire the scammers knowing that a lot of persons have wished up and won't easily fall for this kind of stuff. Personally, r go hard before you go for try that stuff with me cause I go change am for you.

As long as you're dealing with a stranger you can't easily dictate his wareabout and don't know his family, everything you're doing should be with caution because people are not to be trusted anymore. I just read this new method wey you talk say them dey use scam people but one thing wey I never still dey clear of na why security agencies go track the money come your account then com see say you transfer am into another account and not follow up with that account wey the money follow go and wan apprehend you for the whole crime, e no make sense sha.

As for many of us wey don dey more visible and active in the internet world and how easily we fit dictate scam attempts, we go easily know say na one crime attempt be this wey we need to avoid immediately. For sure, but we have to be that careful while even going to bank to make deposit of our local cash because most people inside the bank aren't customers most of them are just there to monitor people who depositing millions so that they could scam them of their hard earned money. So, like I know some of the staff who are working as a banker might even connive with the scammers or robbers to go monitor people and bankers don't mind releasing some crucial information their customers to the scammer so that they could track those people to their various  home to rob immediate they withdraw huge amount to their or make huge deposit to their accounts.

This particular type of scam is the most updated format as we speak. Since they are now aware that transactions can be traced due to many improved tech skills, they are now trying to use unsuspecting citizens as scapegoats.

This is a case I came across online. The alleged scammer posed as a buyer and picked about 7 random expensive hairs from an online hair vendor’s store. After some hours He paid above the amount, like, way excess.

Now this is where the seller became suspicious when the alleged scammer:
1.   Out of about 7 previously picked hairs, he later wanted just about 2.
2.   The account number sent for the refund was different from the one that sent the money.
3.   The buyer was in a haste to get the refund and suddenly just started raining threats on the seller that he doesn't want to refund .

The seller insisted he would only send the money back to the account number that sent the money. Na there baba para o. Omo
Last last, the seller involved the police and truly it was a scam and the money was returned to the real owner.

Na true talk you speak my guy, because that's exactly the very format these scammers do use, and I have witnessed this same scenario before when one of my close female friend that owns a point of sell business (i.e P.O.S) was mistakenly sent 1million into her account without her noticed, and she came to me since we are very close to request what action should she take, of which I told her to report the case to the police, so that if eventually anything happens tomorrow or someone comes to claim the money, we will only ask for a valid proof they actually sent the money, and if they can do so, we will send the money back to the exact same account number. And it's good people gets acquainted with this pattern of scam so that they don't fall victim.

This isn't a new scam but it's good to put the information out there so that people will be aware of how it's been done because I know of a car dealer that was a victim to this. This is why most businesses no longer offer refund policies because scammers are using this to get away with their crimes while you the innocent victim takes all the blames. Country they hard and people are getting desperate to get money. The POS operators are another easy victim because their terminals are being used to withdraw stolen funds without their knowledge and when the money gets traced to them, without a strong alibi they become the escape goat.
