Few week ago, i read on how a crypto expert tutor on TikTok who guides and explains how the crypto world works layed a complaint on all social media platforms identifying how individuals are imitating her on TikTok to deceive and lure innocent newbies who are not knowledgeable about crypto into Investing and earning in sites wish are not legit.
This draws my attention towards what we call impersonating, we all know what this word means. Pretending to be (another person) for entertainment or fraud is a very serious offense globally. However when impersonators describes someone else identity and credentials, it sounds so true to believe that person due to evidence, many impersonators impersonate to receive personal information of individuals for fraudulent activity.
Malvertising is another motive or way behind instagram impersonating schemes, this actually involves using fake accounts to advertise illegal or malicious websites and fake jobs posting, these are common reasons for instagram impersonating. The eastern world and other developing nations are major victims when it comes to this aspect due to inadequate knowledge concerning crypto trade and how it works, many have lost a lot in the hands of impersonators and have lost interest on crypto and other legit trading sites etc.
How to know these catfish’s if they are true or not is very easy, kindly do a research concerning that individual who is been impersonated to see how many accounts are and do have many followers and are been tagged in photos or you can simply use a google reverse image search engine to check if their image is real or not. Lastly, carefully check personal details in the profile information too.

The internet and social media is like an ocean. There are sharks that preys on fishes. If one is not careful, that their harmless question or response to accepting help for their queries online can be the beginning of the entry into a well planned and coordinated scam unknown to them.
Social media people are not real, take everything with a grain of salt until you have done your own research.

You’re right and you just said a hard truth of the internet. Your last words says it all “Careful who you trust”. Scammers always jump on cases that wave so fast such as trending topics or a public figure. The fake dm claiming to be “influencers” or “celebrities” are very tricking because they mostly come with well organized evidence wish seems real. To avoid these scums one needs to double check identities and never allow urgent motivation into making quick money get to you.

This is rampant nowadays and it's a fact that even job postings, they're faking it so that they can mine the data from the interested applicants.
It has become a way for these scammers to do what they think shall benefit them from the data of others. And not only that, many are likely to lose their funds through it.
Remember that these resume/cv contains our contact details and it's not surprising why even if you didn't register for something, you get these scams and texts.

It's common nowadays, which is why we should first verify the legitimacy of an account before trusting it. This is especially important since AI can swap faces to impersonate well-known celebrities or big-time people online, making them appear credible. Never trust strangers on social media, particularly those who send private messages first, inquiring about their services.
On Facebook, a verified blue badge next to a person's name is likely a sign that you are dealing with the right person. I don't know if other social media platforms have options to verify legitimacy.

Impersonating is one or scam methods used by scammers and you can know almost everything about scams by reading the following Cryptocurrency scambook. It is very basic preventive trick for newbies: Avoid messages from people who DM them first. Such people are impersonators and scammers as real admins and moderators of projects never DM first. In addition, after DM first, they usually make other messages related to money, wallet seeds and it is another signal of scammers.

What is the conclusion from the OP's post? Those who do not want to be deceived will verify the information across multiple resources. Trusting social networks is equivalent to admitting that you are a fool. All famous people have their websites, and if they publish something on the networks, then this information must have a real source. The Internet has become a virtual garbage dump, making it very difficult to find authentic information. Therefore, using social networks is preferable only for entertainment purposes, with an extreme degree of mistrust and skepticism.

I agree ,mpersonation and scams are a huge issue in crypto, but we also need to look at the bigger picture. The problem isn’t just fake profiles it's that many influencers on TikTok and Instagram are knowingly promoting projects that were rigged from the start to benefit insiders. Take XRP for example , a massive portion of the tokens were kept by the team and early insiders. Now they're spending serious money on marketing, influencers, and ads just to pump the price so they can dump their bags. Ethereum followed a similar path it had a premine, VC backing,. It’s not as decentralized as many people think. Honestly, most crypto projects today are like that except Bitcoin. They all get marketed as the “faster,” “better,” or “new tech” Bitcoin, full of buzzwords like NFTs and next-gen blockchains. But in reality, these are centralized systems where regular users usually end up holding worthless tokens once the hype dies down. So it’s not just about fake accounts , we also need to watch out for overhyped projects pushed through paid marketing. If someone needs influencers to convince people their coin is worth something, that already says a lot.

Most people trying to impersonate someone just to scam others are actually obvious to identify through their profile and the fact that it’s the person contacting you out of no where without having any talks is a red flag on it own . So yeah ! Newbies might actually fall for this but most times it’s just too obvious that someone you didn’t reach out to personally is contacting you out of millions of people, inviting you to do some kinda investment all of a sudden.. it’s just all another form social engineering trying to confuse and get their trust in something fake . Checking their profile followers might not work atimes, they can boost that and even comment and likes, but mostly from their contents you should be able to identify their motives.

All what you said in part is true but not all social medias are garbages there are many official pages and top individuals who makes use of the social media platforms responsibly it’s all about learning how to see the difference. My conclusion is very simple all you need to do is follow up valuable sources and cross check and verify informations. Social media is full of various individuals from many regions who have different personalities that can still be useful it only depends on how you use them though.

Well you need to be mindful or really careful. These scammers becoming so smart nowadays, that their account is look like the original and what worse is they got a huge followers so anyone would think that they are somehow legit. Always check with their other socials. Usually profile is listed on their other social account check it if its matches the one you are viewing.

You’re absolutely right. These days scammers go at any length just to look legit and true. They actually copy the persons current picture and also use the persons biography and also they buy followers to look real. And they also reply to real accounts to deceive people into trusting them.

Crypto profiles have taken the faking impersonation too far and it is frightening because the scammers create accounts that are almost indistinguishable with the genuine ones. Using the same profile photo, a similar name and even re-posting the initial content. No wonder people fall victims to it. The most painful part is its targeting of the newcomers. These are individuals who are already in the process of trying to comprehend something new, and adding to that, they now need to answer whom to trust. And you are right, in the countries where the digital awareness is still developing, the harm is even greater. A single negative encounter with scam and a person will never want to touch crypto again.
It is necessary to make research prior to giving the trust to anybody in the online network today. Seeing whether they have verified badges, doing reverse image searches, or simply checking whether they appear the same place to place would be helpful. When something does not feel right or it is too good to be true, that is how it is. Everyone should continue raising awareness since this is the only method that will prevent more individuals to fall into the hands of these impersonators.

With those reasons presented people should really know how to verify the legit individuals on social media and they should not grab anything what they see especially if suddenly there's someone sending them a message offering something like to good to be true profit return if they invest on what they are offering to us. Impersonators are now common on social media since there are crazy exploiters try to take advantage on the innocence of people. We should know what this people do so that we will not fall on scams and also if we think about that those to good to be true offer is not true for sure that this scams would never work to us. So people be careful and always check who are those people they are dealing with online.

This is not new though, there are many scam sites that impersonates known personalities like Elon Musk and others during the early 2020's and it's a haven for this scammers as many fall for it.
But now, it's more dangerous with the advent of AI and image generators that has been taking the social media by storm which is Google's VEO-3. So with that, it's hard to distinguished which one is real and which one is deep fake. Our only weapon is self-awareness and really verify everything specially if we have doubts as who are talking to. Because in the end, we might be the next victim.

Spotting scammers, imposters, or impersonators in the crypto/bitcoin space is actually quite simple. They usually come with mouth watering offers. Their main tactic is to show off flashy lifestyles or side attractions to lure you in.
But the truth is, anyone who has genuinely been through the blood, sweat, and grind of crypto knows it’s not that easy. Here on this forum, people will tell you there’s no shortcut. You have to work your way up in this space.
If they really knew how to flip money that easily, they’d be doing it 24/7, not trying to sell it to you unless you are the product, their way of making money.

Regardless of the reputation of the so-called top individuals on social media, don't trust them with your personal information, such as passwords, seed phrases, or other sensitive data. Don't click on any link they share without verification because it could be harmful. Don't believe or invest in any project they recommend without doing your research. Don't click on any link they share without verification because it could be harmful.
Or more accurately, don't click on links shared by strangers or together with "too good to be true" offers, and don't click on links that look strange. You can hover the mouse on that link and see its full link, then if you see it is a strange link, let's ignore it for safety. Don't believe or invest in any project they recommend without doing your research.
Do your own research to become more knowledgeable and better prepared for your journey so that you are more responsible with your fund, decisions and less likely be scammed. Forums like Bitcointalk remain the best platforms to interact and get credible information.
Don't trust anything automatically, verity it. Bitcointalk is a good forum but there are scammers try to deceive forum members and you can not assume that everything shared here by all members are not scam attempts.

People who get easily suspicious about things will barely get scammed or become victims of such frauds, because no matter how good an impersonator is, you will always understand that something is fishy if you have general knowledge and a good IQ. A lot of people these days are losing money on Facebook with impersonation fraud, and it was even tried on me once, but I was saved because I generally have a suspicious nature, and I don't trust things easily. These impersonators have found a new way of scamming people nowadays. What they do is they make a fake profile of someone, and then they contact people from their friend list, trying to be that person, and asking for a favour. In my case, the guy he was impersonating was a college friend of mine. So the impersonator messaged me with greetings and then said that he had moved abroad, and then asked me if I could do him a favour. He said that his visa is about to expire, so he has to renew it, and he needs someone to whom he can send some money so that he can send it to the agency that will manage the visa stuff. I first said okay, I gave him my account details to send the funds, he took them and created a fake Receipt and sent that to me, saying that he had generated the transfer, and it's going to get deposited in my account in a couple of days. I said okay, I'll let you know when that happens. But then the actual game began. He said that the person from the agency says that the visa is going to expire today, and that it has to be renewed immediately. He even made someone call me pretending to be from the agency he mentioned. So, he told me that I should make the payment from my side, and when the money arrives, I should take that money instead. I immediately knew something is off, so I told him that I can't do that because I don't have funds, he started insisting and said that I should borrow money from someone else and do this work, and kept saying that the money has been sent but bank said it's going to take a couple of days. It was becoming too suspicious at that point, so then I thought of rechecking the account, and fortunately, I already had a conversation with that friend, and the chat was still in the history. I knew immediately after opening that chat because our last conversation was in the past, and it was a new account messaging me. I couldn't resist, so I cussed at him and then blocked him immediately.
