The only thing you have to ask yourself is, is anyone going to want dogecoins in 12 months? Personally, I think they will, but don't ask me where the bottom is.

... but you forget it was no organic growth or democratic choice that was putting it where it is now. It was just the wallet of famous scammer wolong that brought it up. So please stop telling everybody memecoins would be desirable and better than actual innovation. Thanks.
There will be no second doge.

Doge is just the testimony of wolongs bad taste.
Sorry bagholders, i know you don't like to hear that.

DOGE supporters would disagree with you. Why? Because they don't really focus on making it the most profitable or the most professional looking cryptocurrency. They focus on making it popular by making it useful more and more each day. Something a lot of alt-coins haven't figured out how to do yet.

By making DOGE more useful, they have a clear line of sight in making it more into an actual currency than a store of wealth such as BTC and LTC. There aren't really any DOGE bagholders, because DOGE supporters use their coins, they don't store them and wait for the coins to become more valuable just to sell them for fiat.

Bang-on. There's one compelling advantage that DOGE has over all the other alts: they never forget what a cybercurrency is for. Sure, they sometime come across as the Internet's answer to Jehovah's Witnesses to anyone uncharmed. But they, as a community, always keep their eye on the prize and will do almost anything socially to get to the goal line. Sure, it makes them seem cloying sometimes, but changing society is always dirty-hands messy.

I know it's a little unfair of me to use this rule of thumb, but I tend to interpret hostility to Dogecoin as a sign that the disher-outer is someone who's gotten so wrapped up in the tech side of things that he's forgotten what the end game of cybers is supposed to be. After all, cybers won't be anything but a backwater unless lots of people are brought in. Like the shibes or dislike 'em, they're still proven experts in the mass-adoption area.

You may honestly think that salespeople are grubby and sleazy, but salespeople still bring in $$$. You may think that the shibe community is a stupid and ignorant cult, but they're still reeling in lots of people. After a certain point, hatin' on Dogecoin turns into the kind of grousing that's the earmark of a sore loser. Sorry, but that's the way of the sad old world.

...in reality there is no demand for such coins. Or at least not such a big one....

Everything you just said is easily discredited when you look at DOGE's 24 hr. volume,...

24 hr. volume? I can think of an easier (if much more time-consuming) way. Just measure the time it takes for a fresh Dogecoin QT to synchronize, and compare it to the time it takes for a fresh Bitcoin QT to synchronize. And then, compare both to the time for any other alt's QT. Volume can be gamed by day trading, 'tis true, but the size of the blockchain is pretty hard to game.

Reddcoin would be a nice communitycoin with a broad base of early investors i was told. I would prefer that. It is also cheap right now.

Agree with you on Reddcoin. The team is very good at extending its reach, at least for Reddit subs, and they were wise enough to deprecate the goofy mascot early on. Redd now has a webwallet API, and I'm on the lookout for what I consider to be the big kahuna for it tech-wise: a Wordpress plugin that allows readers to tip writers in RDD. A WP plugin would have to be evangelized tirelessly, but it's a compelling application that'll make Redd hit the big time if it's evangelized right.

I've been mining and watching DOGE from the first hours (first page of bitcointalk thread lol) and it was interesting phenomenon.
That coin was spontaneously paying more and more attention, with no logical reason. But I know, that was the pure fun to deal with this coin.
That was something new in crypto world, a real breathe from serious looking coins that promise pure economical benefits in the future. Of course there was some demand of making quick-bucks, but suddenly people didn't want to leave there shibes as another hype-pump-dump coin after. I think that many of DOGE owners start to bagholding crypto currencies for the first time.

And now... No forced meme/funny clone of litecoin, or even well developed pro-currency can repeat DOGE success. If there will be the next coin with such impact force it will reveal itself, as DOGE did,  but won't be found even after long searches.
