I didn't know about recovery programs and always used blockchain.com
I can’t attach a screenshot. I have a file called wallet.aes.dat, but I don’t know the password. How can I recover it? Also, I don’t know the wallet version

I restored that wallet, but it turned out to be a different one

Wallet file from blockchain.com usually have name "wallet.aes.json" rather than "wallet.aes.dat". Google search with keyword "wallet.aes.dat" only show this thread as search result. I can suggest recovery/brute-force software (such as BTCRecover[1]). But if you don't even remember characteristic of your password, brute-force isn't practical option unless your password happen to be weak.

I didn't know about recovery programs and always used blockchain.com
I think blockchain.com needs email during registration, why don't you click forgot password and reset it.
If you reset your password, then you can see your 12 seed phrase in the settings option for your safety next time.

Your statement only applies to blockchain.com custodial account[2]. But OP is likely to talk about non-custodial where the support page[2] state you must have recovery words.

Blockchain recovery or wallet log in does not use different methods for custodial or non custodial.
Only Coinbase does.
Blockchain does not do any custodial they only difference is DEFI or TRADING wallet

My point is resetting password to regain access to coin/fiat only works with blockchain.com custodial account.

Yes, but its a hypothetical thesis. You can reset a non custodial wallet if you have the json and find password and/or using 12 words.

Anyways no big deal.

Have a good day

Hi everyone, I have a Bitcoin wallet, but I lost the password. Who can I contact to recover it? There's about 0.5 BTC in it.
That is why beginners are recommended to use hardware wallets, where only a pin code is required to access the wallet (easier to remember than a password). Especially when the bitcoin wallet stores a fairly significant amount of 0.5BTC.

If you have not saved the password and seed phrase, then no one will be able to restore access for you. This is the essence of cryptocurrencies, that all responsibility for access to the wallet and storing backups falls on you.

You are right that hardware wallets are great for beginners, especially for amounts like 0.5 BTC. They are easier to use because you only need simple PIN which is much easier to remember than long password. This helps people avoid getting locked out of their money. Main idea with cryptocurrency is that wr are completely in charge of our own money. If we lose our secret phrase no one can get it back for us. This means we have much of freedom but also big responsibility to keep our wallet safe and backed up.

If you lost your Bitcoin wallet password but still have your seed phrase or private key, you can restore your wallet using a trusted app like Electrum; otherwise, there’s no way to recover your coins.

Found a seed phrase on my computer, from 2015, 18 words, and a password, can not restore access, tried electrum 1.8v, not all words are in the BIP dictionary, what to do?  Huh
Is this any different from this wallet you were trying to recover a while back?

If it is, can you provide some more detailed information on what type of wallet it was, how long ago you created it and what sort of access you have to it now?
Theoretical he is asking similarly questions if I may say I think op is trying to find away to recover a bitcoin wallet  which he knows nothing of or he may not actually be that original user of the bitcoin wallet .but if he is the original user of the wallet then maybe there is a slight chance he can recover it ,but I will require op Act quickly so he can improve his chances of  success , my only opinion for you op is to try and recall possible password combinations. Start by writing down any potential passwords or hints that comes to mind .
This is so unfortunate that you don't remember or lost your seed phrase, anyway in as much as you are the custodian of your seed phrase, you have to be patience with yourself in other to know where you have kept it, if not I don't see the possibility of you recovering that wallet, which now means you have to forget about it until the day you see it.

As a beginner it is always adviceable to read and understand Bitcoin proper, before having a wallet, and to always make use of a hardware wallet so that in situations like these, it will be easy for you to access your pin and also to write it down, if you have written it down with a pen and a piece of paper and kept at a safe place where you will not forget, you will not be missing it, because as a newbie you have not gotten used to all these, and that is why it is recommended in these forum not to rush when doing anything, but take your time so that you will not make a costly mistake like this one.

Are you sure it’s an aes.dat and not an aes.json file?
As far as I can see from your post history, it looks like you are a blockchain.com user. So, I guess what you have is an aes.json file.
In this case, you won’t be able to recover your wallet without the password that was used to encrypt the aes.json file or without the seed words that were given to you when you created your blockchain.com wallet and you were asked to save it.
Please, provide more information so we can help you.

~snip~

It is quite unfortunate that op might not be able to regain access to his Defi wallet if he does not have access to the recovery phrase. 0.5 BTC is not small at all to be lost due to unfortunate circumstances. Not having access to the wallet recovery phrases could make it difficult or impossible to recover the fund.

At least, if he can gain access to part of the recovery phrases, even not the complete phrases the probability of recovering his fund might be possible because I have seen cases where people does not have complete access to their seed recovery phrases due to one or two words missing. Even though the seed phrases are mixed or some not too visible, the probability of recovering it might be slim.
Op is a little bit confused after misplacing his wallet seed phrases. Do you think recovery could be possible without a seed phrase? Quite unfortunate!

It is necessary to keep your Bitcoin wallet safe and well protected because it secured your digital asset form theft and other treath and so forgetting or losing your seed phrase can make you lost all what you have worked for over time, therefore adequate security measures needs to be put in place to safeguard it.

In the bit to restoring your lost wallet, you have a lot of saved backed up files, so that if one goes missing you locate the others and use it.
You have to delete the sub-wallet from the device you are using, then restore it by using your automated master backup password or the wallet backup phrase of 12 words, you can also make use of your recovery tool, but if not working at all get a help from a well specialized cryptocurrency recovery service or a recovery tool.

Also, if your wallet is being saved on mnemonic phrase or seed words you can restore your wallet and create a new password from there.
