Hi everyone, I have a Bitcoin wallet, but I lost the password. Who can I contact to recover it? There's about 0.5 BTC in it.

You don't have to contact anyone, if the address is yours, you must have the seed phrase or private key. Use the seed phrase/private key in Electrum or any other wallet & create a new one (password).

Please do not contact anyone and do not respond to anyone contacting you with any kind of recovery services. If you truly have 0.5 BTC in a wallet, most people who contact you to help you will try to steal you. You can start by telling us the type of wallet that you have. I assume it is a wallet.dat file from Bitcoin Core but it could be something else. What do you remember about your password, how long is it?

If you have lost the passphrase to your wallet then you should have the wallet seed phrases to recover them but in case you didn't write out your seed phrases after creating your wallet that means your coins are lost permanently. If you don't have a seed phrase that means you are not the owner of the coins anymore because ''not your keys not your coin'' since if you don't have your private keys, you can't access those coins forever.

How can I give a specific answer if he doesn't even ask a specific question about his problem? just look at his post history, he seems to know a lot. I feel like he has bad intentions towards other forum users.

Found a seed phrase on my computer, from 2015, 18 words, and a password, can not restore access, tried electrum 1.8v, not all words are in the BIP dictionary, what to do?  Huh
Is this any different from this wallet you were trying to recover a while back?

If it is, can you provide some more detailed information on what type of wallet it was, how long ago you created it and what sort of access you have to it now?

You are the bank of yourself, and that's the beauty of crypto. No one can recover it for you, not even those who made the wallet. The only thing you have left is to try to guess and start thinking about your password. The second thing you can do is to check your seed, check it, maybe you have already made a backup of it. These two are the options that can help you now. Other than this, all those who are privately texting you are just trying to fool you and get your BTC.

You need to post a bit more information about this, like what wallet exactly are you using, and did you generate seed words or privatekey?
Please note that you should NEVER import online or share your keys or seedphrase to anyone.

Looks like continuation of your post here but you didn’t mentioned anything or what really was the problem after the comment :
… it's more likely a Blockchain(dot)info account recovery mnemonic
And even after using the link in his reply to retrieve the WalletID and Password, it will still ask for email confirmation to login.

You only commented you don’t have access to the email..  but from the look of things you need access to your email… I don’t know if this is what you meant by you lost the password, you need to be precise for others to really get what you’re saying. Unless,  this is just another issue entirely.

I can’t attach a screenshot. I have a file called wallet.aes.dat, but I don’t know the password. How can I recover it? Also, I don’t know the wallet version

I restored that wallet, but it turned out to be a different one

I never heard that there's a wallet.aes.dat format. You might be talking about wallet.aes.json which is a wallet file backup for blockchain wallet.

Do you remember when you created this wallet?
Would you mind to tell us the exact name of the wallet software you used?

What's the name of the wallet that you are using. When did you create the wallet. Did you write down the seed phrase i.e the 12 or 24 mnemonic word? Think very well about the password, you might be lucky to remember it, only if the wallet doesn't belong to you.

Hi everyone, I have a Bitcoin wallet, but I lost the password. Who can I contact to recover it? There's about 0.5 BTC in it.
With a wallet, you have two ways of recovery.

1. Backup with a wallet file and a wallet password to open it and access your bitcoin.
2. Backup with either a private key or a mnemonic seed , then you can import it for wallet recovery. With this method of wallet backup and recovery, you don't need a wallet password for recovery. In addition, when you recover your want, you can set up new passwords with new wallet files.

Important steps: Create a wallet , make wallet backups, test backups for recovery. You must do all steps to make sure uou backup your wallet right and they are usable for recovery.

Considering a newbie posted this, i wouldn't be surprised this is some sort of scam attempt.
Playing an innocent victim, hoping someone would contact them trying to "help" and then the show begins. I've seen this on Telegram, where they claim they can't login to some weird exchange due to country restriction, and if you can login and withdraw the btc (usually amount between 0.4 and 1) you get to keep half. What's the trick?
New IP connection detected. Please deposit a verification transaction of $100 in BTC to verify you are human....

This dude is beating about the bush a lot and I view him as very unserious and suspicious. I've read through lots of users inquisitiveness on his case and have weighed in on his off-topic responses. I feel responding directly to him is a waste of time. He's either not yet ready to recover the wallet or the wallet in question isn't actually his own. I smell a rat somewhere.

you probably have a wallet.aes.json, its a blockchain.com

If you have password guesses we can help you decrypt it

I think blockchain.com needs email during registration, why don't you click forgot password and reset it.
If you reset your password, then you can see your 12 seed phrase in the settings option for your safety next time.

Wallet file from blockchain.com usually have name "wallet.aes.json" rather than "wallet.aes.dat". Google search with keyword "wallet.aes.dat" only show this thread as search result. I can suggest recovery/brute-force software (such as BTCRecover[1]). But if you don't even remember characteristic of your password, brute-force isn't practical option unless your password happen to be weak.

If you reset your password, then you can see your 12 seed phrase in the settings option for your safety next time.

Your statement only applies to blockchain.com custodial account[2]. But OP is likely to talk about non-custodial where the support page[2] state you must have recovery words.
