There are a lot of devices out there from portable ones to work based all with different OS. And different people have their choices depending on budget what they do with it and how long they intend to use it. Anyways generally most people have 3 major devices which are; their daily drivers , secondary device and a personal computer (PC) all these work on different OS and range in specifications too.

For daily drivers and secondary devices most Nigerians use either iOS or android the question is what specifications do you focus on when getting a device (RAM, Camera, Processors ..... Etc) and why?

I believe this would be helpful to those coming into tech or other branches like photography , designing, programming etc.. pls this thread should not be used for any form of advertisement for any brand in particular though you can share the names of the ones you use.

Everyone has a specific feature the need before getting a new device and honestly it depends on the purpose of purchasing it. Some might be for gaming, video editing or trading.. what usually influences their choices is price difference in the market..

I practically use two device, which is a PC and an android phone.
For phones, I consider just the RAM and the storage. And I'm a type of user that don't like testing other brands after enjoying a particular brand for the very first time. So, RAM, and the storage are basically two important things. I'm not a big fan of camera quality, because it barely comes to mind while making a choice.

And as for PC, I consider the Gen, RAM, processor speed and their performance tiers like the Corei5, i6, i7, etc. I don't really put the Secondary storage size into consideration, although, I prefer SSD to HDD.

Should this be on the general board?

I think it ought to be in one of the sub board.

When considering a device, the most important things to look out for are the RAM and processor, because if these two are not sufficient, it will affect the device's storage and speed.

A device that has a slow speed and insufficient storage to store data will be considered useless. For me, I don't really consider the camera because I don't work with it, but as far as the Internet is concerned, you can't do without a larger RAM and a faster processor.

For me, i focus on the version of the device, the RAM and the battery capacity. I give these three things i mentioned more priority because i like when the device is up-to-date (latest version of close), then the RAM should be from 6GB upwards, then the battery capacity should be from 5000mAh upwards.

As a visual designer I have a complete set up that cost me over N1.3 million in total.
A BenBull gaming monitor, E-YOOSO mechanical keyboard, E-YOOSO mouse.
I use a DELL laptop with 16 GB RAM and an induced dedicated RAM of 32GB, however I would love to get an Aleinware laptop soonest because of the graphics card. I love high quality resolutions and it is my first priorities when choose a device whether phone or laptops.
Also, I am currently using windows but since i started my journey on learning programing I began to familiarize myself with Linux it gives that complete feeling and allows code runs smoothly.

If we go over to my phone, I am using a regular Samsung A15 and Iphone 12. The reason for having both and android phone and an iphone is to check the responsiveness on the mobile view when actually designing an app or a website.

I can share more details if the right question is asked, for anyone who wants to dive into tech.

It's wise to choose a device that best fits your profession. But considering that most devices are best at RAM, camera, and battery life, their function varies definitely Like cameras now are for those who frequently take photos and videos. Even factors like megapixels, sensor size, aperture, and image stabilization are important to those set of users who are content creators , photographer's And so on.

But considering what we do as Bitcoin is based on time and speed, so for me I prioritize devices with higher RAM and battery life. Because the RAM enables smoother multitasking, faster switching between apps, and better performance when running demanding applications. And battery life is best because we all frequently use our device, and in situations where I don't have access to power or NEPA mistakenly takes light, as long as my battery lasts longer, I can use it for some days before it runs down.

Personally, I consider every single aspect of devices features important, OP you should understand better as a Co-Photographer.

Infact every device I use must be from the latest versions, I use android as my major secondary devices, and specifically I prefer a redmi android because it's durable, has battery and every other feature which you would want to ask for.
But then I also like popular brands too but if they aren't going to serve me I don't go for them which is why Samsung and IOS devices are not part of my valued devices because they usually fail in terms of battery.

However for a PC, some of the applications I use as a photographer is capable of killing a PC very fast, battery must be one the best of the best, speed every important because launching one application can make your system run as slow as hell, so I go for fast devices not just about ram, SSD storage also assist speed so I consider all this as very important.
Additionally, the PC must have at least 6GB of Nvidia graphics card with this, I'm assured the performance, speed and durability is very high because you can't find any devices with 6GB Nvidia graphics card or any other type of graphics card performing low.

If we consider all this important you will be using a PC like ROG, Alienware and/one of the hardest HPs.

For camera quality I get confused of new choice to make between IOS, Samsung and Google PIXELs. But having one of this is very good for a photograph orientated person.

Camera's are least of what should be on the list when checking for device, currently all manufactured devices are upgrading camera quality aside from IOS and Samsung that seems like a special tool when checking for the best camera quality.

I have only two device, 1 laptop of 8GB Ram, 256GB Rom, Intel Core 15, 7th Gen, i consider this device an average of what any user not deep on tech should use. Ideally not suitable for hefty crafts. Then i also have my Android, same 8GB and 256GB storage, still what an average would use.

Choosing a device should depend on why you need the device, an average device like mine can carry loads but not compared to the running speed when you choose a device suitable for the task. So i take the Ram and Processor as what to consider.

For me I always look at the RAM and the battery capacity and the reason why I do so is because I always install apps that consume a lot of space so I always go with phone that has big RAM and since I'm always with my phone going online I always prefer phone that has huge battery capacity because I don't like pressing phone and plugging it on power bank it always makes the phone hot which is not good for device.

I think the best place to move this topic to is the politics and society sub boards because this discussion is about the society, discussion about device is something that concerns the society because everyone uses devices and when they know the right things they should look at for when choosing a device it will help them.
So everyone opinion is needed.

I use three, personal computer, Android device and iOS. Honestly for me I love portability and flexibility so I don't use my personal computer all this time because it stresses me out.
I use my iOS mostly because of operations on this device is faster and more efficient but there is a let down and that is in its battery capacity, I am always on the move and I dont like walking around with a power bank so that js where my android device comes in. Android does the job but not as excellently as the iOS or my personal computer.

For me if am going for any device I consider many things because after all they are all needed although there particular things I will placing my concern, like the storage capacity , the battery and the camera also, personally I love picture, so I will definitely go for a device that can give me a good picture quality, theres no way I will talk about getting a device without considering going for a higher version I think currently android has upgraded to android 16 so that will be the best with a higher RAM and ROM.

For me the Ram is very important. I am using an android device with RAM of 8GB, and ROM of 128GB. Aside from my memory getting full I don’t have any problems.
People fail to get into Tech because they feel they need to get the super device on their first day. Depending on what aspect of tech you are heading into simple device like an android with the specifications as my can be a good starter Device.
I hope to get a more sophisticated device but before then my low budget device Suit my daily needs.

To me it's very essential to consider the Random Access Memory (Ram)  first before anything especially from 8Gb upward,because once the devices am using is not performing well I felt so bored, so I also consider a huge ROM to store my datas. Although I prefer using an android Samsung than others
And the battery MAH is also important.

Well I always prefer device with good RAM because when your device has enough space you will install any app you want, recently I wanted to install efootball in my phone it refused because my phone is filled up, no more space because of the apps in my phone, so when I'm buying another phone I'm looking out for RAM.
So I won't be restricted to install any app I want because when your RAM is small you will be restricted from using some apps since you can't install them because of space.

Technology has advanced much more so these days that just about any smart phone with good memory space and good Internet connectivity would do.
Where this question as regarding the kind of device one uses would become very important is when there is passion to delve further into programmable tech of which mostly functions and regards the use case of IPs and location tags, as well as other factors that might include for coding and for developer options.

Due to reasons of affordability, many of us go for Android OS and we have seen how these android devices has evolved to even do almost better than the IOS apple devices, not withstanding the sleek and adaptive nature of the apple IOS.

You have raised an important tropic. In this era of technology, we always have to use some devices. In some cases, we have to change the device depending on the time and place. For example, when going out use one and when staying at home use another.

The features of the devices will depend entirely on the user himself. However, the things that I generally give the most priority are

As a daily diver, I first give importance to the processor of the device, RAM, Storage and camera. If these four aspects are good, I like that device initially. All users who give importance to the issue of video or photos will definitely give priority to the issue of camera and resolution. In case of storage, it would be minimum 128, If not you will not feel very comfortable using the device because you may have to install various heavy apps. In the case of RAM, I prefer 8GB. If the device is slow, it seems unpleasant to me, which is why I give great importance to RAM. Those with a good budget will definitely be interested in collecting high megapixels camera.

I am not very interested in secondary devices.

In the case of personal computers, I think everyone gives a lot of importance, especially what kind of hardware to set there because it is used for both personal and professional purposes. In this case, everything depends on the type of work. If someone is interested in doing graphics or editing, then of course they will give importance to the motherboard, processor and graphics and a good SSD for storage in terms of fast file loading, and in this case, the monitor is much more important, especially for getting accurate colors. Even if the budget of the processor is high, it is better to take Ryzen 7 or Intel i7, especially for heavy work. RAM is better if it is 16 GB. However, one can increase it according to the type of work. In terms of storage, 512GB SSD is good, but for those whose files are large, it is better to increase the HDD1TB or as much as they want. You have a point, battery life is very important but the problem is most flagships don't have big batteries most times a good processor fixes battery.

Version helps too  but sometimes older flagships still beat newer versions.

Photography I'll chose pixel the biggest edge apple has is just their chip big mega pixel doesn't really mean a better image quality processors depict quality. For designs I'll go with macs they are good.

Your PC will runs node seamlessly as long as you don't over load the drive.

Well to me i think picking or choosing a device i think there is some specification that cross my mind well to i will depending on my needs or preferences, i love to say i do well with just 3 devices apple, Samsung, laptop which in general i take my time to specs check how their the (Random Access memory) which you all knows it determined how your device's work smoothly and faster, pulse i also like checking them out for video gaming too and for sometimes multitasking 8GB or more is well recommend when ordering a device.

Well for the cameras i dont really pick interest it but i think get a device make sure you get higher quality cameras like the (OIS) optical image stabilization, pluse 50MP or more if there is anything.

Batter life aslo matter alot choos device with long lasting power battery at least 5000hma or more so when getting a device try to check most upgrades features.

I use just two devices, a PC and an iPhone.
In selecting a phone I look at the Camera quality and that’s cos I’m into a work that needs good camera for quality pictures and videos, then the RAM and storage comes next.
My PC is a 4gb RAM 500 HDD and core i3 processor I don’t use it for much work though I will get a new one soon cos I’m looking to get into some programming and data analysis. The one I have now can carry but it’s not as efficient. For those looking to get into Tech (data analysis, UI UX design) this can go, you mustn’t wait till you get that powerful computer.
The choice I made when I got it wasn’t based on specifications but on the money I had then.
