Perhaps more accurately, "Have you ever felt that gambling would negatively impact your life?" I think this is undeniable; everyone who gambles has had this thought, including myself. I once experienced a loss of self-control while gambling, resulting in me losing a significant amount of money in just one night. After this incident, I naturally wondered what if I continued like this, desperately seeking money through gambling, only to lose it all.

But now, I've learned a lot from my experience, and I don't want to experience it again, so I've practiced as much discipline as possible. And even though I enjoy gambling, it hasn't had a significant impact on my life because I only deposit what I can afford, without any sense of pressure.

I have never thought gambling could affect my life in a negative way like the example presented by OP. On the other hand, I already thought a lot about the negative impact of gambling over the lives of individuals who become addicted to it, and end spending more money than they should on their gambling activity. Therefore, before it starts affecting my life negatively, I'm already aware I shouldn't go further, so I prevent potential future trouble.

That is why I decided to stop gambling after losing a considerable amount of money. If I went ahead, then I would feel gambling was affecting me negatively, and I'm sure that would be pretty bad, as it means wasting more than money, but also time, which is the most valuable asset in life.

There are research papers that hypothesize that gambling has the same effect on the brain as using illegal drugs, because both cause our brains to release Dopamine - a hormone that makes you "feel good" and "rewarded".

BUT here's what makes people addicted. To have the same level of "feel good" and of feeling "rewarded", a person must do more to get the same amount of Dopamine. In gambling, it's gamble more money. In using drugs, it's simply doing more.

But why do the gamblers just not use small amount of money instead and stay longer playing the games? There are some games that gamblers can play with as low as $0.05/$0.5. Why are the gamblers not doing that?

Using a small amount of may work and will release a good amount of Dopamine, BUT get the context of my post. If you do that for some amount of time, you will get used to it and your body won't release the same amount of Dopamine, UNLESS you increase the amount of money that you gamble.

Drug addiction is different because it is not connected to making money. If you asked those that are affected with gambling, I am sure it is more about something connected to making money.

You're not getting the context, ser. It's not about what kind of addiction, nor is it about making money. It's about Dopamine and how it uses the same pathways in the brain whether a person is gambling or using illegal drugs.

True there some times when I have bad losses while gambling I will think that gambling is affecting my life because of the pain of losing money that was not planned for one thing that I have decided to do is not to gamble regularly so that I can take my mind off gambling to avoid further losses.

I myself had to give up constant gambling, which definitely had an impact on my life. To tell the truth, I had to go through hell. I owed so much money that I even wanted to resort to committing suicide. Well, at that moment I didn’t see any other way out except this. How wrong I was. I don't understand why people will go to extreme length to fund their gambling addiction, image taking somebody's life and using their money to gamble, that is insane. I've heard stories about people using their children education fund and selling off their properties to get money to gamble, such individuals needs serious help. But for somebody who will kill another person to steal their money to gamble or for whatever reasons they should face the law. I try not to take gambling too seriously, I can only use small amounts that I can loose to gamble.

It's just a self-reflection on my end, again, I felt sad that there are young gamblers taking someone's life because of their addiction. And then they disposed of the body just like that, but they surrendered to the authorities after a couple of days that lead to the discovery of the body of the driver. As for my experience, probably the worst for me, is maxing out my credit cards or borrowing money that it takes me sometime to pay. So it's hard to understand what's going in the mind of this 3 persons when they unalive a hapless man and get his money and then gamble.

Killing people is the worst act. Some people associate gambling with bad deeds, due to which people see gambling in a bad way. Do not consider gambling as a part of your life. You should play for fun without taking gambling personally. Gambling can change a person's life, but for that, along with patience, money, and the right strategy and the right knowledge, self-control is very necessary for every gambler. If we do not have self-control over ourselves, then we get involved in the wrong path or wrong work. Be aware of your destination. Determine when to stop and where to start. When we gamble for fun, we will not take the wrong step and our destination will be right. Patience can lead people to success.

There are many things that cannot be explained when we have become addicted. So it's quite difficult to get people to recover right away. So it takes a long process to get better and get rid of the addiction. I think all addicts don't realize they're losing. They realize maybe when they lose everything. Of course, there were bad effects when I was addicted and lost. I even had unstable emotions. But that's the past. Nowadays I manage my emotions when it comes to gambling so that makes me better. So addiction causes a lot of losses both mentally and materially. People who are able to manage their emotions will be much better off. So he will not become an addict.

Rather uncommon to see people share information about their fails and negative experience, especially in gambling. People are used to be silent and dont talk too much about gambling, and minority are ready to confess that gambling brought them negative experience. Some people also dont consider loses in gambling as something negative, or still dont realize destructive actions their gambling activities do to them. Because those who say they gamble for fun (and it seems that majority of posters here are like this, at least they say so), will never tell anything negative about gambling.

I have felt that gambling was affecting my life negativiely on many occasions and those were after series of losses. This should be normal for every gambler, what makes the difference is what action you take after feeling this way and how long such feelings last. If you put proper risk management in place, within a very short time, such feelings usually disappears because you would have gambled with what you can afford to lose.

I believe almost every gamblers might have thought the same way like-wise me too, there was a period that i was desperately in need of money to sort out some financial pressing needs and all my hope to get this money was through gambling I started gambling with what i can't afford to loss to see if i can get this money very fast I started staking high and was losing even the little money i borrowed from friends to add up with the one i have all gone while gambling things weren't going as expected I felt affected negatively I thought within my self that gambling of a thing is doing more harm to me than good i have to stop at the moment and continue after some months but this time am gambling with what i can afford to loss, why most people gets addicted into gambling is that they see gambling as a means of making money as their source of income which is very wrong.

This is already given, but @OP is asking us if gambling does affect our lives negatively. I do not think there is a need to say anything about other things that affect our lives negatively.

In my personal experience, there are instances where gambling affects my life negatively.  In my early years in gambling, I get hooked on it that I failed to manage my finances wisely.  I thought  gambling is that easy so i do not think of properly managing my bankroll.  As a result, I ended up losing way more than I can afford to lose, and that it affect my finances negatively.  It is a good thing that I noticed it early and adjusted my way of engaging gambling.  Now I gamble more carefully and always try to meet the "gamble responsibly" guidelines.

It was effective and avoided the possibilities of financial ruins.  I am able to gamble responsibly after such experiences and is saved from being in ruins.

I think during the early stage of my gambling life, I was gambling without any preventive measures- all I usually do back then was to make deposits whenever I want to gamble and just keep it going till o run out, and when I’m out I’ll continue with another deposit till my entire bank account was red; so I kinda suffered from financial problems at that point.

But for now, I think of gambling as something that is optional, I don’t have to do it when I don’t feel the need to, something that no matter how others sell it to me I won’t do it unless I feel I have been away for too long. So now when I make deposit and it runs out I instead quit instead of looking for where to get money to renew my bankroll that’s just how well I have been able to develop myself as a gambling looking for how to prevent anything detrimental from happening to me.

Of course in my early days of gambling, I felt the negative impacts especially on my personal finances. You understand that when a beginner finds a new, exciting place, it's hard to stop especially with the lure of big prizes, and without realizing it, the pleasure drains my wallet. But over time, I realized that this was wrong. I slowly managed my gambling well and only gambled within my budget. Generally, the reason addicts engage in unjustified behavior is because of their views on gambling and the difficulty of escaping the momentary feeling of pleasure.

Based on my experience too, I believe that this kind of feeling always strike deep during the early time when someone just started gambling newly or when someone have lost a great amount of money, or when you notice that you are beginning to be too distracted from doing things that are of great importance to you but instead you always find yourself being distracted by gambling. Some people have been gambling for a long time but yet they are still being affected in a negative way, for example, there was a thread that was created some months ago, the OP narrated how a bettor lost all his money at the bookie shop and he was begging him for money so that he could use it for transportation fee to go for his work.

I was fortunate enough to avoid experiencing any negative impacts from gambling in my life. At my early stage in gambling, i was able to control my emotions and keep my focus on when to gamble and how to avoid too much loss. Before I even began gambling, I had already asked myself (how will I avoid the negative results?, how much should I risk?).

With this knowledge I was able to approach gambling with caution, it helped me maintain a certain level of balance with it. To those witnessing negativity in gambling, I think you should also try other effective ways to change your course. If you could put your risk management in place, let's say within a short period of  time, such feelings will be a story of the past because you have gambled with what you can afford to lose.

I have never found myself in that position where I regret ever gambling; or where people begin to notice the negative influence of gambling in me. I have always understood that gambling can have negative effects on an individual, especially the case of loss of money meant for other important purposes.

Naturally, I am not a reckless risks taker. By this I mean I choose my risks wisely. There is nothing gambling addiction can not do to us that is why we have to stay away from gambling if we know that it's going to affect us negatively in a long way. Gambling is not for everybody am because some gamblers can not help themselves stay away from gambling addiction. They will keep gambling for as long as possible with the hope of making fast profit from gambling.

I have seen few cases where people used their children's savings to bet and most it. Some gamblers even use their company funds to gamble with they hope that they are going to double it as soon as possible. When though you want to gamble, it's better to gamble on sport games not virtual or casino games that are pretty regulated by either the casino or the programmer.
