 Bitcoin vs Gold - Which will win the % of increase 10 Year Race?

The price of gold is often thought to be a less volatile investment whereas Bitcoin is actually expected to have some significant spurts of volatility.

Like a horse race, each might nose ahead on and off, then fall back, and then one finds its stamina to make a final burst to the finish line.  

Putting the same dollar amount of capital (in July, 2025) in both Gold and Bitcoin when they both bolt out of the starting gate for a 10 year race to 2035 - which one (Gold or Bitcoin) will emerge to win the 'percentage of increase' race?  

Will there be a clear winner right out of the starting gate, or at the midway 5 year point, or will it be neck-and-neck down the stretch with one coming on strong at the finish line?

Neither will find a clear end in sight, as both have price volatility, and this will always change over time. Bitcoin's price could rise even higher and surpass gold's market capitalization, and vice versa. I can't compare them comprehensively, especially over the long term, as there are various factors to consider, and they vary from time to time.

I first invested in gold, then discovered and invested in bitcoin. Over the past few years, both assets have produced comparable returns, but bitcoin has clearly yielded more because its percentage increase is greater than gold's. This doesn't make gold a bad asset, but bitcoin has certainly performed better overall.

Comparing gold to bitcoin is a lame comparison because the two assets have so many differences. Bitcoin has a market capitalization of just $2 trillion while gold has a market capitalization 10 times, over $20 trillion. We cannot expect a larger capitalization asset to perform and deliver better returns, and we cannot rely on that and say that gold is no longer worth investing in.

Gold is quite stable while Bitcoin is more volatile. Therefore, depending on each investor's investment taste, they will choose the appropriate type of asset. For those who have a lot of money, millions or billions of dollars and need stability, gold will suit them. For those who want to get rich faster and are willing to take risks, bitcoin is the better option.

at the worst for gold it will be 4k

at the best for btc it will be over 1 million

so my gut tells me like Issac Newton inventing a new math Calculus BTc could be broken with a new math.
It would look almost like an act of magic. Is it likely to get invented I do not know but the risk is there.

Of course  the upside is btc goes up 10x in next 10 years. A very powerful incentive to want more of it now.

well 10 years has always been really good. 4x from 2025 to 2035 would be the worst it ever did .

based on what you said that putting the same amount on bitcoin and bitcoin to see which of them will yield more profits. It's clear that bitcoin will give you more profits in ten years time compared to gold because bitcoin is a fast growing asset and increases rapid in value compared to gold.

If you check out how much bitcoin price was ten years back. Bitcoin started the year in 2015 with a price at $314 and ended the year with a price of $430. Look at the massive growth of bitcoin from 2015 till date, it has made a 20,990% profits. I know that bitcoin volatility reduces overtime but that doesn't stop bitcoin from doing better than gold in ten years time.

I think it's clear that Bitcoin will win the competition over the next 10 years because Bitcoin volatility is higher than gold's which while causing panic, offers the opportunity for multiple price increases.
I don't have high expectations for Bitcoin in the next 10 years, a threefold of its current price is sufficient, I think. However gold shouldn't be underestimated either, as it is a stable and traditional asset.

In terms of percentage increase over 10 years, Bitcoin still leads the way. Historical Bitcoin price data, which you can search for in your internet browser, shows that gold is good for storing value but relatively slow in terms of the increase you are referring to.

I am also never in favour of having comparison like this, but one thing is sure Bitcoin is winner no one having doubt into this because in last 10 years it's doing and next 10 years also going to be belonged to Bitcoin. But, as mentioned I am also expecting this as well no gold investor is going to shift to Bitcoin because they are having their own mindset and this is not going to change because it's never been easy to have changes like this frequently I watch many those never do this.

Bitcoin can go for 10x in 10 years because this is possible as market sentiments working for Bitcoin while Gold could be also had some chances of doing good with if it's also touch 2x this could be not bad even it's too low, but Gold lovers could be happy with this.

Gold only grow when there's conflict. From my observation whenever there's a price spike for gold, there's ongoing economy recession, conflicts and even war.
Recent gold growth is also motivated by that, average people want to save their wealth and they have no idea how to invest so they just buy gold.

On the other hand bitcoin has explosive growth regardless if there's conflict or not. Also, lately bitcoin has shown a sign of being a good store of value in the times of conflict like bitcoin and hedge against inflation.
I expect there would be more of gold's market share switching to bitcoin in the future. It's literally the perfect way to store your value in the cloud without the limit of physics.

If you look at the prices of the past 15 years, the undisputed leader will be bitcoin, which showed a crazy return compared to gold. I assume that in the next 10 years this trend will continue and bitcoin will lead in return. Probably, the profitability will not be as significant as the last decade, but it will certainly be higher than gold. If you look at the dynamics of gold growth, then in past years the return on gold was very low. We should not forget that gold is a "value-freezing" asset (savings instrument), while bitcoin is an investment instrument (an instrument that multiplies). Accordingly, in terms of percentage growth, bitcoin will be the winner one way or another.

Gold cannot go up as much as Bitcoin. Even though Bitcoins market cap is large, Gold is even higher and if goes say goes up double or triple, then it will great problems for many industries that rely on gold.

You are forgetting Gold is used in many components like computer parts. If prices get out of control then manufacturers will have to use different metals or sell their computer parts for higher prices which is not sustainable. Hence why its upside is capped.

If Gold keeps going up in value, more and more Gold mines will start to mine and itll keep the Gold price from dragging higher, that is not possible with Bitcoin.

Bitcoin is much less widely held, younger, and still very much in a growth phase. That makes it considerably likely that it will outperform gold, which has been quite established for some time now. I believe this is just the result of risk and reward, as Bitcoin is also far more likely to crash to 0 than gold in my opinion.

About the future we cannot be 100% sure but the philipma1957 data reflect a clear trend. What is likely, in all likelihood, is that the future will resemble the past and bitcoin will continue to outperform gold. The opposite is not impossible but unlikely, not only because of history, but also because of the intrinsic properties of bitcoin, which for example make it much easier to hide and transfer, faster, etc. Another reason is the general shift of the world to digital.

I call those realistic expectations and goals, and I believe bitcoin will achieve them. Honestly, I don't believe in the prediction that bitcoin can reach $1 million in the next 10 years as some people predict. Simply because Bitcoin is no longer small and the growth rate will definitely slow down, it cannot grow exponentially like before.

Yes, expecting it to triple in the next 10 years is actually a realistic and achievable prediction.


As for gold, it is a stable asset and is used more for safe haven purposes than speculation. So it certainly won't be able to outperform bitcoin in terms of growth. But with the increasing global instability, the demand for it is sure to be high in the future. That means it also has significant growth potential if central banks step up buying.

There is no doubt that it is definitely bitcoin, and that is why we are here and investing in bitcoin, not gold. And that is obvious since bitcoin is much younger and smaller than gold, so it definitely has better growth and profit potential.
But that doesn't mean gold isn't worth investing in, especially since investing is risky and diversification is essential. Hence, investing in both is a right thing to do, and by doing so, we can both minimize the risk and also earn significant profits from both.
