I read somewhere online that PayPal is looking forward to add extra numbers of crypto to allow the use of payment for merchants in the United States, I am sure that I am not the only one that saw this news.

I then remember that PayPal already supported Bitcoin in the past years already, my question is for any PayPal users on here, if you are trying to make payment online are you somehow given the option to settle payment in Bitcoin instead? I will like to know and also for that fact that it's been long already I believe I should be able to get an answer atleast.

It's 2025, are there ways to use Bitcoin to shop on Amazon and Best Buy.

BTC is still converted to USD at checkout, so.. I wouldn't say it's the biggest win, but it's still one.

You are correct and we also have to talk about KYC here and that is going to be mandatory for services like Paypal. I guess in the beginning they are really against Bitcoin and crypto in general. But in the last 5 years, we are growing and so this company will have to adopt as well otherwise they are going to die or lost in the competition.

So this is still a welcoming news for us. Others might not like Paypal as a company, but it could open doors as well with other merchant that they might have to accept and adopt. We will see then in the future if there will be another services that will accept crypto as their payment scheme.

You don't have full control of your wallet; it's still good if you have a non-custodial wallet.

It's for those that don't think about custody that much while utilizing the - crypto - aspect to gain more profit and leverage over it, nothing more.

If you are not base on US, then you won't see this option for now.

I've created a similar thread, PayPal launches "Pay with Crypto".

If the option is only for residents in the US then that doesn't make any sense. I am actually not a fan of PayPal maybe because it doesn't work in my location. If  you value anonymity I don't think you should be paying for anything on PayPal using your Crypto-currency.
While setting up PayPal you are already giving out so details. But I will be looking at this thread if there is actually a decentralised way to buy things online using Bitcoin.

You also convert your BTC to fiat anyways, as it was said, so.... Even more details, yay Wink

I honestly don't want to use decentralised way to make payment online, I just want to pay in Bitcoin instead of having dollar in the paypal account, I don't care about KYC because it changes nothing for me.

To swap bitcoin back to fiat in my country I have to use centralised exchanges and they all compulsory KYC verification, it doesn't matter to me, but the only problem I can have with PayPal is not supporting other countries except U. S citizens, it sucks.

Can we really escape from centralised platforms? One way or the other we are stuck somehow, even P2P is no longer looking like it anymore, there are few ones that still works but real peer to peer is fading right in front of our eyes.

I don't really care about using PayPal. Privacy is important to me, especially when it comes to crypto. I would never want my government to know that I am a crypto user and that I have an important asset like Bitcoin. Even paying with Bitcoin is very annoying for me, I would definitely prefer a decentralized wallet as an online payment for private purchases. The main purpose of crypto is privacy and decentralization, so why would I use a decentralized currency in a centralized way when it is not private at all? It doesn't make sense to me.

You don't have full control of your wallet; it's still good if you have a non-custodial wallet.
It is not recommended to use PayPal as Reminder: do not keep your money in online accounts.

I remember forum members tested with Paypal when it accepted Bitcoin years ago but randomly I found this interesting service.
CoinPal beta - Buying bitcoins with PayPal. It's since 2010 and while it is not related to Bitcoin accepted by Paypal, it's still interesting history of Bitcoin adoption.

This is the test in 2020.
Will you buy BTC from PayPal now that they are letting people do it?

If you are not base on US, then you won't see this option for now.

That's why it's a bit confusing because I keep seeing news and articles out there about PayPal, where you can able to send and receive, but on my own PayPal account, even though I have funds, I don't see other options to choose crypto; I only have two options: our local currency and USD.

Now I see that this is only available to US citizens? I dig deep research, and it looks like it also has support in the UK and Luxembourg. But in Luxembourg it is only for selected users.
According to PayPal, they are trying to expand their service for crypto worldwide, but because of international regulations, the process is very slow. But this was 2 years ago, and until now they haven't added more countries to support crypto.

Are you sure PayPal supports BTC and other crypto? Because I can't find a crypto option or wallet on my PayPal account, it only supports local currency.
Or is PayPal BTC not supported in my country yet?

If you are not base on US, then you won't see this option for now.
I am not from the US and that's why I don't see it either.

It's been so long since I've used my PayPal account for transactions online and went with my former side hustles even before I get into the forum.

This is a good mindset if you don't want any intervention and data of websites like PayPal sent to the government.

While this doesn't apply and work for us. Those that are not oriented a lot with crypto, they'll go ahead and use it inside PayPal because to them, the company is trustworthy.

I don't understand where your frustration comes from.

Does it matter that you pay via PayPal using USD or Bitcoin? For me, it doesn't. If you pay Bitcoin through PayPal, you're actually paying in fiat. The transaction isn't done on-chain. The merchant receives fiat. PayPal's financial books register the transaction in fiat. Everything's in fiat.

So, why are we complaining that we can't pay with Bitcoin on PayPal? Are there PayPal partner merchants that only accept Bitcoin? I don't think so. So, if you have a PayPal account and you can deposit fiat there, that's it. You can make the most of it.

The setup with Bitcoin on PayPal is like this:

Understanding how Bitcoin payments work on PayPal is crucial. When Bitcoin is used as a payment method on PayPal, the conversion to fiat currency occurs on the backend. This means merchants always receive payments in fiat, and all PayPal accounting is recorded in fiat currency. Therefore, complaints about the inability to pay with Bitcoin on-chain through PayPal are irrelevant. No PayPal partner merchants exclusively accept Bitcoin directly. If you have a PayPal account and can fund it with fiat currency, you already have everything you need to take full advantage of the platform, as PayPal is designed to mediate fiat transactions, not facilitate pure crypto transfers.

Ugh im so sick of paypal. Zelle is much better way to send money and I prefer to use that over PayPal, venmo pretty much anything. PayPal is still good though it's just recently they have annoyed me and I dont care much to explain myself lol.  Anyways, huge company definitely in crypto they have their own stable coin and are one of the payments Titans, they aure want to keep their share of commish from transactions so they will pivot just like thr rest of the world towards crypto

Why doesn't it make sense that they only offer this service in the US? While PayPal is a US based company and they consider the US as their top strategic market. Furthermore, implementing cryptocurrency services is not simple as it involves addressing legal factors, infrastructure, and implementation costs. This is not simple, and they are rolling it out area by area and will prioritize strategic areas.

If you have used centralized exchanges to buy and sell bitcoins, used banking services and many other centralized services. I see no problem using PayPal and their crypto payment services. If you have used bitcoin for payment, do not expect that your privacy will be guaranteed and anonymous.

Anyway, I think it's not a good idea to use PayPal to buy something online and settle it with BTC using PayPal.
You don't have full control of your wallet; it's still good if you have a non-custodial wallet.
It's limited to the US and you're paying using BTC from your paypal account that has BTC in it, not sending BTC to certain address so in a way you're just using paypal account with balance Grin and yes it's 100% custodial wallet with paypal.

There are many alternatives out there but merchant usually just don't care and what matters most is getting the USD converted amount.

I assume they don't have to set up a dedicated payment processors if their existing ones support PayPal already? I get the impression that merchants don't really have a choice whether the user will pay with Bitcoin or not. It's more like the decision lies with the user themselves. I see some new threads asking which payment processors are good for Bitcoin with low fees/privacy-friendly, etc, regularly in this forum, btw, so I think some of them do care about privacy too.
