Happy new month. August is the eighth month of 2025, Donald Trump resumed office for his second spell on January 20th 2025, on August 20th will make him 8 month into his tenure but his tariff habits hasn’t changed.

According to https://www.newindianexpress.com/amp/story/world/2025/Aug/01/25-us-tariff-on-india-takes-effect-august-7-as-trump-revamps-duties-for-nearly-70-nations Donald Trump Tarrif plans on India will take place from August first.

It is becoming clear that Donald Trump has had the Tariff policies as his strategy before even resuming office on the 20th of January 2025. India tick the box as the latest nation. Trump takes no exceptions on his tariff policies, it looked like Donald Trump and Shri Narendra Modi India’s prime minister had a good relationship.

From the news article Trump is also using this tariff on India as a punishment to them for purchasing Russian Oil. US is India’s highest market destination and Trump is holding that against them.

Trump imposing tariffs on countries because of they went against his instructions goes against diplomacy and respect. I expect India to give a fight.

He told India not to import crude oil from Russia.

I do not know the reason United States is so against Canada despite no much trade deficit. He imposed 35% tariff on Canada.

He will still impose tariff on more countries. He has just began again.

India is now the highest exporter of Apple company products. More opportunities will come for the country. I think the government of the country should think wisely and know how to play along which is what they are doing.

He is just a simple clown who does this sort of stuff on a regular basis since he craves attention and whines like a baby when people don't listen to him which is why the US government is in such a sad state these days.

Also, he clearly fears BRICS which is also one of the reasons why he pulled this crap. India just like China and Russia are powerful enough to deal with these changes though.

Funny, India's Prime Minister is well known for one of the highest in order trying their best to huff Trump's farts. And yet, now they're hit with some of the worst tariffs on a worldwide scale.

I just wonder why the world keeps taking Trump Seriously at this point. What is the US's bargaining power if they're isolated in the worldwide scale? After all, how much of a reliable ally is the US when the president has so much power and can simply tip the scales of international relations overnight.

At the end of the day, those delaying the most, Mexico and China, are the ones who benefit the most.

I do not know the reason United States is so against Canada despite no much trade deficit. He imposed 35% tariff on Canada.

I read an Al Jazeera article that said, "Canada is simply the closest target", and I'm inclined to agree. Trump only likes a country as long as its leaders and the country play along; if they don't, he doesn't like them, and Canada has gone so far as to fight back. The US does not despise Canada; Trump does.
We saw how Trump always talked about Canada as the 51st state and how the citizens would be happier that way. He said all these even before he became president. And we all know how Trump gets when people fight against him. Like India, for example, they refused to obey him, and the tariff is his way of punishing them.

I noticed Trump is a bully and self-centred person. He is wrong for calling Canada 51st state and I see him just like the past United States leaders that took many lands from Mexico but just that there are media everywhere now, unlike old era. I know about what you posted when he first imposed 25% tariff on Canada while Canada was retaliating. Trump should know that Canada is a very good country even without the United States. He also want Greenland, a country region controlled by Denmark, which is an ally to United States.

These recent tariff reawakening should be a wakeup call for India, China, and the rest of the BRICS nations that America, still weilds the big stick, they still dictate global trade because they have the consumer market. Trump, can argue that he is doing what is best for the American economy but his approach is too stringent, for example some analysts are saying that the Indian tariff hike is to get back at the country for trading with Russia, for their resources. Let us watch and see how the tariff reawakening plays out for America, and the affected tariff counties.

I guess we’ll have to see if Trump grants another extension. I think these tariffs are applicable from 7th August so there is still a chance he uses some of these harsh numbers as a negotiating tactic. Let’s wait & see what happens.

Let's see how long Trump will decrease the tariff he will implement in the next week.

This will backfire United States because they deported immigrants where those people are helping United States and now they increase tariff from the countries that helps them to make money.

So it's like they decrease two factors that affect their income.

Trump believes that by increasing pressure on Russia's trading partners, the Russian economy will soon be exhausted and they will soon end the war in Ukraine. But he forgets that the Russian economy has remained resilient over the past four years despite facing thousands of sanctions from the US and EU. He also believes that using tariffs to pressure BRICS countries will weaken and disintegrate the bloc. It seems to me that he underestimated Russia and BRICS.

His tariff weapon is a double-edged sword, and it could end up hurting the US economy rather than having the effect he hopes. I wonder if he and his advisors have a contingency plan in place for the opposite scenario? What will they do next if the tariff strategies fail to put pressure on Russia and BRICS, and even become a catalyst to help BRICS unite more against them?

Yes the tariffs on India is set for August 7. As a business man that Trump is the time is for India to try and reach out to them to negotiate. Donald Trump knows that India needs them more than they do India. America is a hot destination for products coming from or through India just like the Apple product.

Negotiations between the US and Canada have been ongoing, and it was expected that there would be a favourable deal for both parties. But it seems Canada's decision to recognise the state of Palestine didn’t go well with Donald. He stated in Truth Social that Canada's decision will affect their trade deal. I am surprised that the US president is mixing political issues with economic decisions. Countries shouldn't be bullied because they decided to support a course.

I think the fact that India is part of the BRICS is also a negative factor in these US tariffs
Here in Brazil, they managed to get several items excluded from the 50% tariffs, but not all of them, and there are still some very strong sectors of Brazilian exports left
The tariffs have been postponed from August 1 (today) to August 6

For some countries, it was just a matter of tariffs, but in Brazil's case, there is the added political aggravation. And in India's case, negotiations with Russia must have been quite disruptive, and now they want to send a message for all

True He said it weeks ago that he would impose tariff to BRICS nations. But not just BRICS nations, to all. Even to a country with no one on it but penguins.

If its going to make US rich again, its got to be his objective and needs it done. 50% tariff seem too high, Brazil should also fight back as high as 50% as well. Its often just to Trumps favor even in my country our president being as weak as he is, agrees to Trump to impose no tariff if they export products to our country.

Let's see how long Trump will decrease the tariff he will implement in the next week.

This will backfire United States because they deported immigrants where those people are helping United States and now they increase tariff from the countries that helps them to make money.

So it's like they decrease two factors that affect their income.

I agree that this could backfire on America because, under these circumstances, some people will seek alternative markets to gain more reliable profits than the American market. On the other hand, Americans who import will also be affected by this policy, which makes goods from the sending country more expensive when resold in the US.

This will reduce trade volume.

If they are illegal immigrants, I think it's normal and not a problem because they aren't very profitable.

This sounds like you got hurt by this which ironically confirms that he does indeed have power and is able to make things happen, and get people upset.  Smiley

The USA is still controlled by Jews, so don't blame Donald for that personally.

Countries shouldn't be bullied because they decided to support a course.
Every country does this, don't single out the USA.

I guess we’ll have to see if Trump grants another extension. I think these tariffs are applicable from 7th August so there is still a chance he uses some of these harsh numbers as a negotiating tactic. Let’s wait & see what happens.
Yes the tariffs on India is set for August 7. As a business man that Trump is the time is for India to try and reach out to them to negotiate. Donald Trump knows that India needs them more than they do India. America is a hot destination for products coming from or through India just like the Apple product.

Trump may not want India for whatever reason but US companies certainly do, if US impose sanction than all the companies will lose half of their user base from google, youtube and even Amazon that is the biggest marketplace in India so US rich will not expect it to happen. Smiley

But why we need to take him seriously, he will just change his words and take a complete U turn in a day and that will likely to happen on this matter too.

And If anyone remember Trump said that Putin is his best buddy and he can end the Russia Ukraine war but now he imposes penalty because India have trade deals with Russia. Grin

If this wasn't one of numerous random tariffs that Trump has thrown out in the last few months, it might look like a strong move. As it is, it's yet more of this toddler splashing around in a paddling pool without a clue of what is happening in the world. All this does is push prices up for Americans ultimately, as they are the ones that will have to pay for these extra taxes. It might just be small components here and there, but those components will either cost more or find different routes to America through countries without taxes, but still cost more for all the unnecessary paperwork it creates. For a president that claimed to want to cut red tape and minimize bureaucracy, he sure is creating a whole bunch more of it.

From the news article Trump is also using this tariff on India as a punishment to them for purchasing Russian Oil. US is India’s highest market destination and Trump is holding that against them.
That's one of the reasons the other reason is the military contracts that India got out of and they were worth a lot of money.

You see over this year some significant events took place that changed a lot of things on the global scene.
First there was a clash between India and Pakistan and the Pakistani airforce shot down multiple Indian military aircrafts that were NATO made. That includes Rafale made fighter jets. Something that was a blow to the NATO war industry.

Then there was the war US regime directly started with Iran and the Iranian air defense shot down half a dozen of 5th gen stealth military aircraft of the US Airforce namely the F-35 which was an even bigger blow to the NATO war industry.

After seeing all that, Indians are saying they no longer want to purchase F-35 from US, something that is a billion dollar blow to US war industry and that angered Trump who is paid by the American arms dealers such as Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman.
So he is trying to put pressure on India using the only tool he is left, which is tariffs to change that. This new tariff came out shortly after India pulled out of the F-35 deal with the US.

India is always Americans favorite nations due to their few significant advantages but now Donald Trump suddenly doing few things which are going to have deep impact on their economy as well because having tariff on India is surely going to be problem for America for many reasons.
India is also one of the biggest allies of Russia just because of this I am not sure whether they will go against them and drop buying oil from them because this is also beneficial for them few things are surely India needed to be done if they want to keep their partnership with America usually Indians have tactics handle to situations like this, and It's going to be settled soon.
Recently regions geopolitics have few changes which are surprising but still America needs India here in this region as his best partner because they will never allow China to have control and keep things on their way politics is always dirty game, and they always have way to fix things through talks.
