I want to know which material is the strongest for a cold storage wallet card. Preferably, metal that can be engraved with your private key or seed. I know that Titanium is strong and lightweight, but it can be easily scratched. Not sure if it's "fireproof". Tungsten, on the other hand, is much stronger than Titanium, but it can be easily shattered if dropped (brittle).

Has anyone conducted tests/research on the different types of metals' strength for a cold storage wallet? I'd be curious to know. Smiley

titanium can typically withstand up to 600 C  - provided it is not too thin, thin titanium can combust.

I personally prefer stainless steel which has a melting point of around 1400 C.

Could do a combination of metals.

Personally, I love precious metal physical bitcoins.

Satoris' new physical bitcoin is a good example of how various metals or materials could be put together to create a physical Bitcoin using a combination of metals.

I'd agree with Mopar regarding the strongest metals.

I know titanium is still the best material for storing seed phrase, while followed by steel. I think this indirectly answered you're question. They are both good.

titanium can typically withstand up to 600 C  - provided it is not too thin, thin titanium can combust.

I personally prefer stainless steel which has a melting point of around 1400 C.
Titanium is stronger than steal also in melting point. It can go higher temperature and not melt when steel or stainless steel has already melted.

Titanium is stronger than steal also in melting point. It can go higher temperature and not melt when steel or stainless steel has already melted.

Titanium has melting point over 1600 deg C, and 600 deg C is melting temperature of aluminium, so probably it was mistake.

Both stainless steel and titanium are great for cold storage and could withstand usual fires. Also they both are corrosion resistant.

To both materials in my opinion only downside is that they set off metal detectors if you want to carry your cold storage on plane or building under security.

.
Has anyone conducted tests/research on the different types of metals' strength for a cold storage wallet? I'd be curious to know. Smiley

You could find this interesting, there was various cold wallets tested to fire, acid and hydraulic press, but there was no tungsten wallet tested as far as I know:

I tried many materials myself & also aquired several cold storage steel & titanium plates.

The best option i found was the Bitbar Swiss. It's expensive, but if you do a group buy the price is fair for the outstanding quality

If you want a bitbar let me know, I know the maker - good guy. Met him in 2022 at the conference his booth was closed to ours.

you may have seen these already but here are a few links where quite a few metal back ups were tested and documented.

I personally prefer stainless steel which has a melting point of around 1400 C.

Thicker is always better. But I'm afraid the cost of producing a thick titanium wallet would be high. I've been considering Brass and Copper as alternative materials, although I'm aware they're not as strong as titanium or tungsten. Stainless Steel is much cheaper, though. I've seen many cold storage wallet cards made from that material, but I'm not sure if they're "high-grade" (like 440C Stainless Steel). The higher the grade, the more corrosion resistant it will be, thus ensuring maximum durability.

Will any of these metals (except pure steel or iron, ofc) be suitable enough to bury underground? I'd like to create some sort of "time capsule" with a metal cold storage wallet card in it for future generations to enjoy. Smiley
