The most dangerous kind of fake news and disinformation is the one which directly spread pseudo-scientific information about health and illnesses which put life in danger, by giving people the impression they can treat serious disorders with basic tools and ingredients found in ones household...
I have seen those quacks claiming they can cure HIV and cancer through the use of Sea water... It is actually disgusting there are some people out there who are willing to put others life at serious risk, just for the sake of money and relevance. It is playing with the well being of the desperate and the needy and it should be illegal.

That kind of advertising is already illegal where i live. I remember when that law was passed, even then people were arguing against it with lies.

In newspapers / news sites, there were interviews where alternative medicine shop keepers were arguing that if this law passes, you can't sell most of the herbal medicines. Which was a lie and literal fake news.

You just couldn't sell them in pharmacies labeled as medicine, and claim that they cure stuff without peer reviewed evidence.
At the time i was learning how to extract herbs to do alternative medicines, and even i agreed with that new quack law.

I like the way you bring out this two important consequences of having fake news in the society, because it's part of the confusion we see among people and why some have resulted into serious arguments and fight, because some are in support of the fake news to be real, while some are not daft or ignorant of what is going on and thereby go against it, fake news has caused a lot of mixed reactions from the people and to believe in anything they hear on the social media becomes a difficult thing because of the incidence of fake news.

Social media has done alot of harm but that's also because most of us has not discovered where to get accurate as direct news that has nothing to do with fallacy, there are social media platforms I don't take their news serious, like facebook, i prefer get my informations about recent happenings around the world from X which our normal twitter and it must be coming from reliable source from their but how would anyine even come across such news in social media and take serious in the first place, if such is true, I think it would've been seen in the news platform like CNN or any other news TV station even some local station will want air it, so sometimes I even blame most of us for some of this things, since we know that social media is the house of fake news why taking unverified information from those platforms serious.

The spread of fake information is a necessary policy for managing large masses of people. People take any nonsense as truth if it comes from “official sources” or authoritative figures. People are lazy and don’t verify information for accuracy, and this allows them to be manipulated.

The events that are mixed with colors spread among people to a greater extent, although their reality appears before their eyes to a very limited extent. Like what's happening to Bitcoin back then, there are countless of fake information spreading across the internet to fud BTC but a lot of enthusiasts prove that BTC is the goat. Like when people who have traditional mindsets spread false information to avoid it because it ruins their business but right now looks what's happening, people are now sticking to BTC and taking advantage of the potential profits.

In this era of the internet, it is possible to reach any news from one end of the world to the other in an instant. Due to the availability of smartphones and the internet, people can easily use social media, YouTube, WhatsApp, etc. In this opportunity, some unscrupulous bloggers (not all) do not check any news and promote it just to get their own views. And these fake news acts as a 'silent virus'. They create widespread chaos in the society. For example, when various government vaccination campaigns start, this opportunity is taken by giving children from all over the country. Then if someone propagates that children have fallen ill after taking government vaccines. Then this news will create a confusing situation in the whole country. In this situation, parents will stop vaccinating their children. However, this vaccine was very necessary for a child. This is how these fake news negatively affects our society. Strict laws should be implemented to suppress them.

So many people enjoy flying fake news around the social media most especially, just for their personal interest and did not think of the harmful part of it, infact there is no different between someone who flies fake news and liars, because someone who Carry out fake news is the same thing as liars because there is no truth in his or her words,..

And this is the hand work of the deceivers,alot are doing it because they want to gain comments, large numbers of views.
We have some many ways in which they can appear and cause harm to the society:

1)by fake news:they pass the fake information as if they were there or like the saw it what it's happening if there is anything of that kind.

2)lie: to decieve you trying to make it look real

3) impersonation: trying to pass through someone else whom you know so that you can trust and give a listen eye meanwhile they are not..
So many ways,so it's really very important for us to always make research before believing anything...

With AI as well, you'll never know if it's a real thing or not. Some creators are trying to fool their audience and make it believe as a real thing. And the same goes with the news, it's easy to create fake news nowadays and I think there should be a need for heavier punishment for them to stop it if they're doing it for fun.

I am surprised how you think that. It's still pretty easy to spot generic AI graphics / videos if you have been using it a lot. There are some patterns you can focus on and this unnatural professional, clean, sharp and staged look, because algorithm prefers those "cool" looking results.

There will be time when they are indistinguishable from reality, but that isn't the case yet, and hopefully there will always be counter tech that can analyze and recognize computer rendered material.

Don't be surprised, I know how to spot on but I am speaking for those that have no idea if they're AI generated or not. And it's sad to see that some people that produces those type of contents are fooling people around and they're not stopping once they see that views to their contents are shooting up. Like with the google veo 3, many of those 7 seconds footages that are knitted together to make some story, they're obvious AI generated but some still believe they're real.

Many are only making the use of the social media the wrong way, as from our part, we are expected to follow the right sources to information we received online, because to an extent, there are trusted sources and there are some random untrusted information sources on the internet.

This is why we don't run to conclusions in anything we see or get to know in the internet, the internate space is messed up,the so called content creating bullshit has littered the whole Internet space with lies and unwanted news, To me i can never be misled by those lies out there, unverified news is too much in the internet space so much to the extent that passer by or will I say viewers get more confused often to know what to believe in, you're are right is there were to checks and may be good filtration of post, I think thing would've improved in that space but since such does not exist instead everything has been monetized, it becomes an issue.

People don't even care about whether news is real or just a rumor; they chase clout because of the benefits they gain from spreading fake news. Society is interested in hearing captivating news, and they don't bother to verify if the news is true or not.

Due to the monetization present in social media, people go to the extent of creating fake news solely for the traffic and money it generates. Fake news has become a business for content creators because they profit from it. We just need to be careful about the news we hear and verify its reliability.
