It's on how you practice what you set for your limitation, as long as you can handle the pressure and you are in-line with what you suppose to execute then addiction can be avoided, it's more on controlling your emotions and limiting your activities, most of those who got addicted are those who got dominated by their emotions, some got too much excitement while others got too much aggressions.

I think to avoid addiction you have to learn to say no to yourself. When you catch yourself wanting cravings, quit for a week. Quit for a month. Quit till entire days or weeks go by without thinking about it. If you're at this stage you're safe because not feeling the need to gamble is what takes you away from addiction.
