Team USA will really want to win this one after failing to do so for 2 seasons while dominating the Olympics.

The qualifiers are formalities for some of the top countries, the main tournament is where they will get to show their game. For other countries, this is a huge chance for them to challenge the top teams and improve.

It’s true because they are over confident that other country still not catching up to them but in reality they have a lot of real competition now especially Serbia and Canada.

I initially plan to do this but I rather choose to use the report to moderator function for this matter.

That was a trap. I didn’t watch the game, but I wouldn’t have taken those high odds anyway. This team went to the FIBA World Cup with, I think, two NBA players,  now with Roy and that small guy who’s playing for the Bulls. I didn’t get to see the match, so I’m just guessing… and honestly, I’m not interested to watch anymore since it was a blowout win.

By the way, is Guam the team Jericho plays for? The player from SBM who won the Finals MVP?

They are a decent team. Their earlier loss Iran was a shock but with so much at stake they had to bring their A game to that game to secure 2nd place.

Yup, Jericho Cruz plays for Guam. That +26.5 against Japan might be considered a steal if only Jericho Cruz has played on that game but unfortunately he was sidelined due to hamstring injury. Guam's lone win was against Syria which was historic for them, in that game Jericho Cruz was red hot from the 3-point line, hitting 5-7, scoring 21 points leading Guam to the win.

What a win by the Philippines against KSA, wasn’t able to watch the game live, but when I woke up, I caught the highlights.. Justin Brownlee hit a clutch 3 to tie it, which probably pushed the game into overtime. Final score: 88-95.

Philippines also covered the spread, as IIRC they were -3.5 in this game.

Many times Brownlee has broken the hearts of opposing teams, the biggest one being that win against China back when Kai was still healthy. But without Kai, that kind of upset might not happen again. Now their next game is even bigger than China, it’s against Australia, the team that will never forget what happened in Manila that led to that infamous brawl. From what I remember, the only one in the current roster who was there during that time is JMF, and the good thing is he didn’t take part in it. So hopefully, this one stays a clean game.

Who could forget this? Easily one of the wildest brawls I’ve ever seen in basketball history. If I remember right, some players got suspended, but at least both sides were man enough not to take it to court. Australia really took a beating that day, it felt like it was them against the players, the crowd, and even the friends who ran in from the sidelines, LOL. It was more like an MMA fight than a basketball game.

We don’t like to admit it, but watching the highlights is kind of fun.

Anyway, for those who missed it, you can still find the video out there. (here)

Yeah, it was “fun” to watch if you like turning basketball into a WWE event, but let’s be hones, it was a straight-up embarrassment for the sport. For Australia, a supposed tournament contender, it was a dumb gamble. One fight, a few suspensions, and suddenly your World Cup hopes are hanging by a thread. Smart move, right?

And speaking of gambles, anyone remember the line for that matchup? If I’m not mistaken, it was around +19.5 for the Philippines, and Australia still covered with ease. Sure, the brawl grabbed all the headlines, but the scoreboard told the truth: it was a blowout.

So what could be the betting line this time?

What a win by the Philippines against KSA, wasn’t able to watch the game live, but when I woke up, I caught the highlights.. Justin Brownlee hit a clutch 3 to tie it, which probably pushed the game into overtime. Final score: 88-95.

Philippines also covered the spread, as IIRC they were -3.5 in this game.

https://www.fiba.basketball/en/events/fiba-asiacup-2025/games/125102-KSA-PHI

Many times Brownlee has broken the hearts of opposing teams, the biggest one being that win against China back when Kai was still healthy. But without Kai, that kind of upset might not happen again. Now their next game is even bigger than China, it’s against Australia, the team that will never forget what happened in Manila that led to that infamous brawl. From what I remember, the only one in the current roster who was there during that time is JMF, and the good thing is he didn’t take part in it. So hopefully, this one stays a clean game.

So another heroic games from JB, I remember when he broke the hearts of the Chinese with Yao Ming watching. And it was a very close fight against the Saudi's and I thought that the Saudi are going to win this game. But they forget about the Philippines JB, and in the last couple of games, he had a bad shooting night if I'm not mistaken. But not in this game as the Philippine squad starting hot from the outside.

Now it's interesting on who will be they facing next. They also have history with the Australians so I'm hinting that this is going to be a physical game all throughout and the underdog Philippines will give everything here for sure.

The Philippines already knew Australia plays physical, so of course they’d try to match that. The problem? Player quality. Australia’s got multiple NBA guys, and honestly, I doubt they’ll even bother sending their absolute best just to face the Philippines , they already crushed them before. If I remember right, it was around a 50-point beatdown back in 2019.

So, I’m expecting Gilas to lose by more than 20.
If they somehow pull off an upset, it won’t just be an upset  but it’ll be a straight-up miracle.

As the Turkish national team, we want to participate in this tournament. We have NBA players like Alperen Şengün and Adem Bona. Considering that our other players are also performing well in the EuroLeague, I hope we can participate in this tournament and achieve significant success. As Türkiye, we have been eagerly awaiting success in basketball for a long time.

I am usually missing the updates about FIBA because I haven't watched the games. So, this is a good discussion and update thread for all of the games that are happening globally for all of the regions where FIBA basketball is now happening. With the recent that I've read, Finland's Lauri Markkanen is on fire. He's dropped 31 points against Belgium. The Utah Jazz must be proud of their guy making his motherland proud.

Philippines will have their hands full with the Australians, with NBA players on the team, advantage in height and high caliber players, Kai would have been a force or even a bit match the Australians, Junmar will be slow again this time, he seems to not perform well with players who is bigger or same with him, they need height now, I hope their shooting will be better to even match the speed and height of their opponent, they need to get to play KQ this time, coach holding players because of their actions to play for pba.

As expected, Philippines fell to Australia in a blowout. What’s funny is they didn’t even bring out their best.. I didn’t see the big names. Just the young guns, and they still beat what’s supposed to be a strong Gilas lineup.

Final score: 84–60, a 24-point win for Australia. (https://www.flashscore.ph/en/basketball/)

On the bright side, I hit my live bet at the end of the 3rd quarter,  took Gilas +25.5 and just squeaked it in. A win’s a win.

Australia dominate Philippines on early round and they manage to sustain their offensive fire power. They made lot of 3s while Philippines can't answer the offensive sets given by Australia.

This really means that Gilas still need to develop more since we've seen lots of errors on their game today. Australia is so strong for them and even on early quarters we could see that Philippines winning chance is so low.

Also congrats for your win. Didn't manage to place some bets since I know Philippines will lost today.

They were up against the number 7 team in the world, so a loss was already expected. But honestly, I liked how they played in the second half, they showed a lot of heart. They couldn’t beat Australia, but at least they kept it closer than many thought. Losing by this margin isn’t surprising at all.

In fact, Gilas even took the 3rd quarter 22–21, just by a single point. But in the 4th, Australia made their adjustments and didn’t allow Gilas to go on a run.

For real, Our big man is outclassed with the natural big on this international level of competition on sports that height matters the most.

PH has a decent 3 point shooting but not enough to cover for Australia easy basket when attacking PH defense. We should be proud that we manage to give a good fight on teams that belongs to top 10 in the world.

It’s always good to watch PH matches because of the crowd support. We always have the home court advantage no matter what country they are playing. LOL.

Australia dominate Philippines on early round and they manage to sustain their offensive fire power. They made lot of 3s while Philippines can't answer the offensive sets given by Australia.
That’s really the problem -- their outside shots were falling, ours weren’t. And on defense, they clearly had the edge since Australia’s always been known for that rough, physical defense. Even Brownlee struggled to find his groove. This is just another test the team will have to keep working on.

Not sure if things would’ve been different if Kai had played though.

This really means that Gilas still need to develop more since we've seen lots of errors on their game today. Australia is so strong for them and even on early quarters we could see that Philippines winning chance is so low.
The errors were really because of Australia’s defense. When we’re struggling against that kind of pressure, we’re not making the right shot selections. It ends up looking like there’s no proper rotation and we can’t get a clean look at the basket.

Quote
Also congrats for your win. Didn't manage to place some bets since I know Philippines will lost today.
