This a wrong misconception for someone seeking to become rich through gambling by playing long term due to their house edge on the game that makes long term game completely disadvantage for the player.

Gambling for more than 10 years without any gain is enough to tell them that gambling is not for profit making but rather for fun, and anybody who gambles should do that with funds they could afford to lose, and also they should do away with the mindset and mentality of gambling as a source of income otherwise it is the beginning of their way to addiction.

I don't think in this day and age you need to waste your energy trying to convince people about the demerits of seeing gambling as a means of escaping poverty. You have to tell him the reality that not all gets rich in gambling. If it happens to be him then that's nice but, it's more likely that it won't happen to him.
