[Request] Application for a moderator on the beginners and help board.

I often submit reports from this board, and as many who have voted here may find surprising, all reports are processed properly and quickly. I don't mind a moderator in this section if the admin needs it, but if reports are processed, then someone is doing it. Doesn't this seem like a pitch for a position that is already being filled by someone? As far as I know, moderation is paid. Why take away something that already belongs to someone?

Most major boards have mods to quicken how fast reports are handled and how effective moderation is. Currently the beginners and help board has no particularly assigned moderator and global moderators do all the work so technically speaking making me a mod there would only reduce the workload on global moderators and not replace someone.

Some boards have more the one mod , it all depends on how much traffic is generated on those boards.

I may not be the best out there literally but I'm sure and I believe I'm the most willing to become one. The admins decide who is fit for a moderator and this thread is considered an awareness thread for people to air their views on a major board like the beginners and help not having a moderator. And me ready to fill the space.

For what it's worth: I don't think Mods are selected based on their applications.

Yeah same goes for a merit source. No one would be a source if the forum didn't see you fit. I bet it's mostly about capacity and willingness to do the task.

I have seen application for merit source in this forum but I have not seen applications for becoming a moderator here in this forum meaning that it is not proper for applying for being a moderator, theymos knows how he select moderators and I think the proper thing you would have done is to only make a thread on the things you feel is lacking in the board and then outline the solutions you feel can solve the issues you have outlined and maybe in the list of the solutions you can then mention that a moderator is needed in the board, and then add that you will be willing to take the position if giving opportunity.
But form what I'm seeing in that board I think the global moderators are still doing a very nice job in that board, there's no absence of a moderator in that board so hence a moderator is not yet needed in that board however let's leave it for theymos to decide.

theymos has the final say, if he thinks you merit it, then he may give the consideration, but if he thinks there's no need for that, then its a nice attempt you made, all the best.

you're not far from the truth even myself am seeing someone applying for the position of a moderator for the first time, which I don't know if Mia Chloe is going in the appropriate direction, but all the same theymos is the one to decide if beginners and help board  need a moderator or not,  and who will suit in the position of a moderator in the beginners and help board and not us.

Honestly speaking, I think OP @Mia Chloe is known to be a well-behaved person in the local board from what I have seen so far, plus I think it will be of great help to most newbies who are finding it difficult to understand the forum better. I think with an additional helping hand like @Mia Chloe in the Beginners and Help Board, which is known to be the starting point for newbies, his being a moderator can indeed really play a crucial role in managing and maintaining the board's effectiveness and providing guidance to newbies, which @Mia Chloe is really known to be well-suited for due to their active participation and valuable contribution to the forum.

A user registered in 2023 cannot be a moderator in any way.

You might think that the current moderators can't cope. Especially since the forum activity is not as intense as before.

Willingness, consistency, and the genuine desire to help the community is what matters the most.  From the time I have been on this forum till now you, you are on  of the most active and committed member of the forum, which is exactly the kind of presencethat the beginners and help board needs. Even just creating creating this thread shows true leadership, because you took  your initiative to address something important rather than waiting for others to act, and also carrying us along. Please, curiosity made me want to ask if this is the first time this is happening for a member applying. If no!! then I think there should be an formats that have  been used when applying to such an important thread like this. Plus, you are right that @Mia Chloe's suitability would ultimately depend on the administrator evaluation,  which he might or will choose the suitable candidate for the position someday, which time will tell.

Based on my observation, the "OTHER" Section of the forum consists of Meta board, Politics & Society board, Off-topic board, Serious discussion board and the Archival board  but I saw that it's only @Xal0lex that is assigned to moderate the whole "OTHER" section and he is moderating the Politics & Society board particularly. If he is the only one moderating the entire mentioned section, then it must really have been stressful and at such might need another mod. Tho the reports from the beginners and help board might be handle by moderators of other board but does that not add to the work load of the other boards they are already moderating? If there's need (based on how relevant it would be to the forum growth) to add a mod to the board that OP is applying for, then I vote to support the OP.

But when I see such tricky topics that in a couple of minutes become overgrown with pages, then I see in this signs of artificial promotion, this means that the author of the topic wants power by any means in order to then do something bad

I don't like it when the author's farm appears in the topic and spams its naive messages in every possible way: "I support @meia hloe"

If I'm not mistaken I think Mitchel has being moderating the beginners and help board for sometime now.
I track the board so when posts are moved I receive notifications
And most times its carried out by Mitchell (ever since I took notice)
Though he also perform same thing on other boards like project development.



The Economics and project development board don't really have a specific moderator
But it has being moderated well so far.

But the more the merrier. If Theymos believe another is needed maybe He could consider your application.

Most of times, a new moderator was chosen this way but there are few direct appointments from theymos such as Andreas Antonopoulos as a Greek moderator many years ago.

I came across a thread sometime ago but can't really locate anymore where I saw some individuals total reports and their accuracy
It felt so inhumane.
Ratimov then had more than 120K reported post and accuracy of 99%.

I have a decent report accuracy of over 91% across different boards but majorly the beginners and help board.

I don't know but in the grand scheme of things 91% seems modest Imo.

Oooh no wonder despite Mining Buddy being inactive the board was still functioning fine

Yet the same individual has applied and become a merit source. Correct me if I'm wrong but the length of time one has spent on this place isn't just the criterion for that position and instead of calling it naive just cause it's the first of it's kind( cause I've not seen such an application made for mods), you could have commended the effort cause it's not like you were going for it anyway.

I can support Mia Chloe as a Moderator of Beginners and Help as well.
She is a nice and helpful Member and I can imagine these advantages are necessary for a good Beginners and Help Moderator.
In my opinion, Mia Chloe is perfectly suited for a Beginners and Help Moderator.

The admin is usually not the talking type when he wants to act, he just goes straight to the point.. so I don't think he would just come out of the Shadows and create a thread: requesting applications for the post of a moderator

I created this thread ( Add a moderator or description to beginner and help board not really for the purpose of new moderated but to include the name/s of the moderator who has been actively handling the board which I believe it has to be Cyrus who is handling the beginner and help responding to reports as required. However the idea of applying for a mod is quite different from my initial thought yet if theymos sees it to be a good idea then it’s fine. As a matter of fact you have quite a good reputation to assume some level of position not excluding this one.

However, since the position is a paid job in the forum it will only be wise if theymos add to the existing mod rather than a replacement.

Additionally, the only chance I think have now is increasing you level of participation in cleaning the said board by reporting threads to moderators to handle quickly, I know for sure that the position is not an application based position so you have to follow the requirements to achieve it.
