One of my bosses in the office has some cryptocurrency in his wallet. He does not know much about cryptocurrency especially how to manage a wallet. One day one of his neighbors was helping him with the wallet and without his knowledge the neighbor copied his wallet phrase. Yesterday he discovered that there was nothing left in his wallet because everything had been withdrawn. Please is there any way we can retrieve the cryptocurrency or is there any way we can get proof that he is the one who really transferred it? We have the wallet address to which the cryptocurrency was transferred.

Exposing your wallet secret phase is the easiest way to lose your crypto, this is mostly the job of crypto recovery services, but these days so many of them are scam and a complete waste of time. But am curious, is the asset Bitcoin? Because if it's Bitcoin, you have some hope of recovering your asset if it was transferred to an exchange, but if it's transfer to a none custodian wallet, then it's near impossible to even know who it is. In a situation like this, you guys should be sure before making accusation, is that the only guy your boss has confide in? Or he has shown any other person? All this is one of the major reason you are advice to keep your secrets phase safe, because that's the key to your asset, once it lost or exposed, your asset are gone.

OP In cryptocurrency, transactions are irreversible so there is basically no way to get the coins back. You can however make use of blockchain explorer to see the address that received the funds and confirm the transaction, but that’s the only proof you can get of where the money went, not the identity of the person that took it

Jess that's really tuff, If your boss is the only one that has seen his seed phrase then how did the neighbours get their hands on it, For me I think that maybe your boss saved it on his phone and while your neighbours was helping your boss out, he copied it unknown to your boss .You might have the wallet address it was sent to, but the blockchain is anonymous it won't say who or whom the money was transferred to. My Best advice is to confront the neighbour. If your boss had knew he would have just done some online research about how to use a wallet rather than seeking help for a neighbour and one thing about cryptocurrency once it's gone, it's gone. If it was a traditional banking system, there would have been a chance to recover it but it's not we are talking about cryptocurrency .

Am not an expert in things like this, but one thing I know is that if you lose your crypto asset due to carelessness by revealing your secret phase to someone else, the probability of recovering it back is like 2/100, good luck in your search for solutions. I would suggest that you post this in the beginners and help section of this forum, you might see someone that can give you the kind of answer you needs.

What happened to you is unfortunate. We all know that if a wallet seed phrase falls into the hands of someone, that person gets full access to his wallet. So in such a situation, it becomes very difficult to recover the lost coins. Also, since this is a planned operation, if the coins are sent through mixer privacy coins, it will be very difficult to recover them. If you have the destination wallet address, you can find the transaction history using Blockchain Explorer. From there, you will be able to see when, how much and to which address the funds were transferred. Collect screenshots of this information. Then you should file a complaint with the Cyber Crime Unit or Digital Security Unit as soon as possible. Contact the EFCC. They investigate crypto fraud. Gather the necessary information. How much funds were lost, when they were lost, to which address the transaction was made, gather all the information. Take legal action as soon as possible. If the criminal funds collected coins through p2p cash out or mixer privacy coins, then it will be very difficult to recover them. But if he took the funds from an exchanger, then it is possible to report the exchanger and freeze his ID. So collect information as soon as possible and take legal action. Hopefully your funds will be recovered very soon.

What happened to your boss is quite unfortunate that his neighbor used the opportunity of him not having a full knowledge on how cryptocurrency works and that is why people keep saying that my people perish because of lack knowledge, i want you to understand that when it comes to cryptocurrency or any coins at all, it is always advisable that will should make sure that we have full knowledge before embarking into cryptocurrency, i want you understand what have been moved out from the wallet can never be reverse back, the only thing i can tribute on this that, if wallet is been protected by having password before he can assess the wallet and your boss is very sure that the password is only know by him, then your boss should hold his neighbor because cryptocurrency has no leg to move out the wallet.

He doesn’t really have the knowledge to that extent. In fact the neighbor was the one who told me that he should hide the phrase from someone which makes the whole situation suspicious.

Have you forgotten that you are in Nigeria, I don't remember when Nigeria had a department called Digital Security unit and how they intend to trace the funds and know the owner of the wallet address. Nigeria is very poor in handling crypto related issues and reporting to the EFCC might make things more complicated. I am not discouraging OP, but his funds is gone and he should learn more about whatever he is investing into. OP, which coins are you talking about here, is it bitcoin or them shitcoins. You need to be specific with the coin name because cryptocurrency is a vague word.

It is impossible to recover cryptocurrency that has already been transferred. Your boss lost his valuable crypto due to his own mistake. There may be nothing more that can be done to get back the crypto that the neighbor who has already transferred through all the information regarding your boss's wallet has. Your boss should create a new wallet and learn the basics of cryptocurrency storage and security in the future. This kind of foolishness should make you more aware, especially when it comes to crypto assets themselves.

It’s not everything you take to the general board, OP made this topic in the perfect board because only Nigerians truly understand how the legal system in the country works and the best way to go about these kinds of issues.
First of all, there is no way to recover stolen coins unless you are able to get the person that stole them and in this case your boss can’t prove beyond a reasonable doubt that his neighbor stole his coins. You confirmed with your story that your boss doesn’t know much about crypto so what are the odds that he might have clicked on some malware on his device or was hacked?
