Airdrops aren’t dead, but the meta is broken. Without stricter rules and real value, it’s just free exit liquidity for insiders.

If you have a new airdrop that you know is going to be good, call it a 'flairdrop'.  That way, if it 'flops', you are part of the way there there already, with the 'fl'.

Most of us has participated in these airdrop, but 95% is of them turn out to be crumbs as you said. But there are still airdrop out there that are less popular, has fewer interaction and might be life changing if you can filter the noise. But then, if you’re exhausted on airdrop, you can familiarize yourself with DEGEN. You’ve probably heard internet influencers  over hyping a particular airdrop project, wait for the airdrop you’ve heard about to be listed, after five minute or so depending on your preference, you initiate a buy position, then make sure you pull out your capital before the airdrop is rug pulled.  😏

The manner in which airdrops have been addressed in the recent times is not a boon to the notion of rewarding those who are part of the real community. Claiming majority of the rewards by the Sybil farmers would only do the insiders favors and leave the ordinary users frustrated. I believe airdrops aren t dead yet, only when designed properly by the project with more rules and actual substance behind it. Otherwise they stand to become pointless hype and they lose credibility. The hype mode may not be as strong as it used to be but structured airdrops still may have a success story as long as they are done properly.

In my opinion, airdrops have exhausted their primary function, advertising, and given the recent too many scams, they no longer have any reason to exist.

After the huge disappointment I suffered with the Mnemonics project where the dev team promised to airdrop to hunters who submitted Web3 wallets but they never did till date, I've subsequently looked away from anything concerning airdrops. It's exploitative this day with projects scamming airdrop hunters in the guise of asking them to pay certain amount to claim NFTs or VIP slots for their airdrops. It's all a sham now. Gone are the days when airdrop put smiles on hunters' faces.

If I had not seen recent airdrops perform well, I'd have been of the opinion that airdrops are dead but yes, they still have a future because there is still a few out there that rewarded their testers well. Another one in particular is kaito ecosystem, in recent times, I've seen most projects launched on it and did well.

There are still some airdrop projects that end up successfully but unfortunately it is not so many. You just really have to be lucky. I do not know if this can still improve but for now it is so rare to meet an actually good project.
