Security operatives in Kaduna have arrested a suspected vote buyer in possession of N25,963,000.

This arrest occurred barely hours before the conduct of Saturday’s bye-elections in parts of the state.

The suspect, identified as Shehu Aliyu Patangi, was apprehended around 3:30 a.m. by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in collaboration with the Department of State Services at a popular hotel along Turunku Road in Kaduna metropolis.

According to the Kaduna State Police Command, preliminary investigations revealed that the huge cash was intended to induce voters and compromise the integrity of the electoral process.

Police spokesman, DSP Mansir Hassan, confirmed the arrest, noting that the suspect had already confessed to the crime and pleaded for leniency.

Things like this happen in every state in Nigeria. It's something that even the police shouldn't be shocked about because every political party always gets their hands dirty to win elections. But in this case it's good that they caught this man before he started bribing people for votes. If truly the Kaduna police are serious about getting to the bottom of this issue then they should do more investigation to know who the true criminal is because to me, Shehu Aliyu is just another victim these politicians use for their dirty works. Furthermore I agree to the law that he must be punished for agreeing to cooperate with whoever told him to do such a thing because it was his choice

It's not something new in this country, this happens in every election. Which I still believe it will worsen under this regime because most elected politicians have no good track record to show for their projects, and they're still seeking for second term. That's why education is important in our lives, because if not for illiteracy, what would make people sell their vote? It's possible that they won't even punish the suspect, but they have no choice but to make it clear to the public that they will because the amount from you mentioned from your scenario indicates that the suspect has connections.

It's no longer a surprise to me when I hear this kind of news. Vote buying in Nigeria has always been in the system since time immemorial and we now see it as a normal thing to do when there is an election.
Sometimes I really don't blame the politicians anymore, rather I blame the citizens that allows their vote to be bought by this greedy politicians. We need to understand that if we vote put conscience and refuse to sell our votes, the politicians will recognize it and stop trying to buy votes. This vote buying has allowed us to have really caused a lot of harm than good in Nigeria and has also allowed us to end up with the wrong leaders that don't really care about the people.

Alot of people is not concerned about making a good leader, thier Major concern is just the little dividend that they're getting. they don't care whoever the person is, And the reason why most people can't let go off this mentality is because they feel they're all the same. at first they will pretend as if they're going to make a good leader just to get you to vote for them. But once they scale through the process they will leave the citizens with unfulfilled promise, so this issue regarding vote is complicated. And I don't even see this vote buying or whatever stopping anytime soon, even though some person's may be attempting to stop it but there will still be a set of people who would want to stick to it.
