Just to keep it simple,

There is this account with the username as Anonymous, I got to see it through a referenced link that lead to this thread created by the Anonymous username with an underlying guest notation. The account somehow doesn’t seem to exist and yet, has posts on the forum.

The account seems to have been active from the early days of the forum as far back as 2011 from this post.
It doesn’t have any of the forum credentials on it,
No post count or activity series,
Username isn’t clickable and certainly doesn’t open a profile,
Its post has posts and comments you can only read on a thread,
It doesn’t have a profile in bpip.org although, there exist a username with anonymous with no tiles to this account as evident in the posts made.

Now, I wasn’t here as far back as 2011 so, I don’t know how the forum did operate then and this is just due to curiosity as to understand:
How could this be?
Where guests allowed to make posts back then?

I think here you can get your answer-
Deleting accounts doesn't mess up any threads, like this thread. It just changes to anonymous, with no profile information. Post stays intact.

As you can see here, I only change the username to "Anonymous" on request.

Regarding the user that appears as anonymous, it is because he deleted his account, although another user apparently took his name (or changed it), and seeing that the user has not been active since 2012, it seems to be a legitimate account, if I'm not mistaken, this is a bit dangerous, I mean because of identity theft, should it be allowed to take the nickname of a deleted account? But I'm not sure what I'm talking about, maybe there is another explanation if someone knows it, could you be so kind as to correct me, but this is what I'm dealing with for now.

True example of anonymous forum, Theymos did what the user requested.

Though I haven't seen this before or anything close it's such a surprise to me, but after reading through the thread it's now understandable, that users or guest weren't allowed to make post in the past.
I was very surprised because I know how simple machines forums works, I thought this forum in 2011 was different.

It's more like same thing that happens nowadays that users change names, like poker player, now free market capitalist... Theymos can do the anonymous thing if the reason is valid.

I see that now, this thread did lead to another thread where that bet was actually made, with over 100 BTC reward for whomever could provide evidence of how money in context of fiat wasn’t unilateral. Every reason given wasn’t good enough for Atlas/Immanuel Go as he went by both names at some point.

It finally makes sense though that, users could find some reasons to get accounts deleted. Didn’t think that possible, that accounts could actually get deleted.

With all that being said, I’ll be locking this thread by the day’s end.

The username Anonymous could be the name but the guest is what I don't know. But in my own understanding if the user had an inscription beneath his name could be meaning that the user is no longer in the forum and he posted those things when he was active and right now he has been knockout from the forum by the admin. And with that his name would be in the forum and the posts he had done must be in the forum but the account has been removed from the forum and that is why his posts are still here and the name but he is no more active.
That is my understanding of the issue here.

It's all good, I don't think it poses any danger of identity theft because it's just a username not some Passport or National ID document
When you decide to delete your account on even the known social media platforms today, Your username becomes free and can be assigned to a new user, however popular you were before. If a person was concerned about impersonation, then they shouldn't have deleted their account in the first place.

I mean, there are some well-known names here. Let's suppose someone very popular decides to leave us without much fuss, their account is deleted, and someone else takes their name. Over time, it becomes legendary. Someone who isn't aware or doesn't frequent the page much might think it's the same person they interacted with years ago. The attacker could use this name to ask for huge loans, or something similar, like scams.

I think that although it's unlikely to happen, it's a possibility that can be eliminated by banning the username for life.

edit:

or at least do this with well-known characters.

The accounts were only deleted on request. Today, that is not possible. The only possible thing is username change by Theymos on request. So there is nothing like a user leaving us without much fuss and then the profile gets deleted later without his or our knowledge.

The other very popular individuals have had their profiles just get locked like Satoshi, Lauda, so again, there is no chance of username theft and impersonation.

A couple of other truths have been laid bare as it concerns,

Deleting of account to be no longer possible
And all that could be done is change of name on request.

So I can now proceed to lock this thread and avoid any spam.
