I will agree that there are laws in Nigeria but I disagree that the laws work in major parts of Nigeria.
The facts that you said if your driver's license are intact you won't be harassed by police is not valid because most of this police and Mopol men don't depend on their salaries because their salaries along can not provide for their needs, what they are actually looking for is faults from a car owner and drivers so that they can be able to extort money from you. Now just imagine a police man doing road safety Jobs. Road safety provided drivers license and other vehicle papers so they are the ones that's supposed to check and know the errors on your vehicle papers. Checking of motor papers is not the job of a place officer. The job is based on domestic violence while the jobs or road safety is to check car papers, fire extinguisher and seatbelts and other things that is related to vehicles and roads to prevent little mistakes that might cause accidents. If you went for a drivers license and you are given a temporary one, even though it hasn't expired and you showed it to the police they will find fault from it because it's not their job, it's either they delay your journey or they collect money from you and we all know that it's very bad.

The only state I know that police are not disturbing is in the north side of Nigeria, like in Abuja, the police over there dont behave like the ones we see around here, they don't block roads and they don't stop people anyhow because they are scared of stopping people, they actually believes that everybody there have levels, so they don't know if the person they will harass is working with senator directly or somebody close to someone that works governor.

We all know that in most areas even though some bad people are fighting, the police will not show up even though they are in that area but after the fight is over they will come and arrest the innocent ones and those innocent people will pay to be released. We definitely have a law in Nigeria and the law is working, but I will say it works to an extent. In the case of those driving without drivers license or complete papers of the vehicle,  it's there fault and that's why the police takes advantage of them to extort them. What will you talk about police stopping someone on the road and asking to search their phones without a warrant, that's very wrong because they are invading your privacy. We know that there are a lot scammers in the country,  but that does not give them the right to stop anyone on the road and search their phones. If they suspect you to be a fraudster they should use due process before they can have access to your private belongings.
Talking about landlord quitting someone from the house, you should understand that not all landlords go through due process to quit people,  although some do and it that's the case, it's the fault of the tenant,  but if it's the other way and the police could not do anything,  then the law did not work for the person in question. I agree with you. The problem for most Nigerians is that they find it difficult to do the right thing; most times, they are harassed by the authorities. The truth of the matter is that if you know the law and apply it, doing what is right, you cannot be intimidated or disrespected by any authority.

The authorities respect people who know their rights and do the right things. Most Nigerians don't always do the right things, but when they travel outside the country, where laws are strict, they adhere to them because they know they will face consequences if things are not done the right way. Op, for Nigeria, even if your driving license, insurance, and every other paper complete and correct, some police officers go still look for one way or the other to extort you. No be say you commit offense o, but them go just dey find small excuse wey them fit use hold you. Sometimes na even ordinary tinted glass wey government give you permit, them go still drag the matter like say you dey guilty.
The thing bad pass when you be young person wey dey drive one fine, clean motor. Once them see you, jealousy and suspicion go enter some of them mind. Dem go feel say you dey do fraud or one illegal work, so them go frustrate you until you settle them. Even when you try explain or show them proof say you dey clean, they fit still insist make you waste time for road, or even carry you go station just to break your spirit.

The truth is that, this whole thing works in both ways, most times, you can actually have your papers for your vehicle complete and the police will let you go after checking, the second part is that, you could as well have complete document and yet they look for silly excus to use and complicate the entire issue, just so that they will extort from you. I will actually say atimes when we follow and keep the law, even when defending ourselves to the police, we are wrong to them. In the case when a police officer stops you on the road and just tells you to open your phone which is invading your privacy without any warrant and you tell the police officer it’s not their right to search your phone, even if they want to do so they need a warrant. The fact is that those that doesn't have their complete papers may be attacked by the police officer but in most cases your papers may be complete but they will be looking for ways to extort money from you or still looking for a little fault. Nigerian law only works for in respect of the riches and for the politicians that belong to same party systems. senator Natasha and senator Akpabio as a case study, if we're in country that laws works perfectly both senator Natasha and Akpabio needs to suspended, but they only suspended senator Natasha due to she doesn't belong to ruling party system and senator Akpabio that's prime suspects was allowed passed judgement. Have never seen where prime suspects is allowed to judge a case that has to do with the suspect, how are you going to explain this scenario to your friend from other countries that prime suspects were allowed to passed case over his self, isn't that not funny enough. Let us say there are two ways to what you are saying. What iI mean is that while you cannot say the Nigerian law is not working, you can also say the Nigerian law is working but selectively. The Nigerian law in most cases choose who to work on and who to not work on based on the class and the level of that individual or scenario before the law. The Nigerian law is unarguably weak and that is where injustice comes in.

I wl agree with you when you said the people also don't abide by the law and that is why the law do catch up on them which is very true but in most occasions, those are minor civil issues and not criminal issues. We've read where bandits have been arrested and later released to the land and I beg to ask, what kind of working justice system is that. A friend of mine or let me call him a senior colleague at work place gave us his ordeal with the police couple of years ago where he was arrested without any offense, detained and arranged for the court yet not even knowing what his crime was.

In the end he had to call his uncle who was a big police officer in ranks who then angrily asked for his release and that's how he was saved from that unfortunate incident. Later he was told that it was a kidnapper that was released.from.the cell and they were looking for who to replace with the kidnapper so when they saw my senior colleague he has the physical structure like that of the kidnapper who made him the candidate for their hunt. The people that has the right for papers checking is the Road safety and also other necessary things that complete the safety measures, one thing our authorities and anybody in charge of anything should start with is obeying the law they serve but unfortunately in this country is not being respected, I remembered one certain time I was driving and I saw the governor on a convoy and because of how the road was too congested there was no how those that was already moving with there cars will manover out of the road immediately so instead of the police to help and control they instead started beating those people and causing injuries to there car just because of the governor so actually is only a corrupt nation can do this.

this case is a clear evidence that the ruling class select law order they will obey. They was a judgement from the court on the matter of suspension. But Akpabio refused to obey it and still go ahead to suspend senator Natasha. This country is in a mess, the rulling class are busy abusing the law and using it to oppress the people.

I keep saying, that this country is like this because of the corrupt judges we have in the out court room. Yesterday I been wan post for forum but guess what I spent the whole day at the police station and by the time I came back home, it was already past 8PM. I was so tired and irritated with the level of injustice and lack of trust in the police force. Yesterday them arrest me and 8 other people separately.

I don't agree with some of the things wey you talk for here , especially about Nigeria law working for those that do obeys the rules. The Nigerian law dey work mostly for the rich folks and for the poor ones the reverse is the case. The Nigerian police are even more corrupt than you can possibly think of, police wey supposed dey protect citizens are now the nows exploiting then by collecting money . Talking about driving licence, if you don't give them what they want they ever ready to delay your journey.
