I agree, gambling addiction can destroy lives and relationships. Many don’t realize how serious it is until they lose everything. It’s important to offer support and counseling instead of judgment because they truly need help to break free from that cycle.

When you see someone who is addicted to gambling, it’s when the person agrees that they are addicted that we can extend our hand and help the person. If they don’t still admit that they are addicted, then any other help you try to tender to them will be void since it won’t be accepted by the person.

This is certainly true, when a person admits his wrongdoing, then if we give him good advice, he will accept it, but if he has the right understanding, that is, he sees his bad actions as right and is not making any effort to get out of it, then even if we give him advice, he will not accept it, that is why we have to develop the mentality of admitting any wrongdoing in himself, addiction is something that has to be realized from within, when he understands and accepts that gambling is leading him to the path of destruction, only then will he have the desire to change and at that time he will take any right advice seriously, due to which he will be able to get out of this bad situation.

I am curious about your advice not to control gambling addiction.  At you saying it is ok to be addicted?  And it is wrong to control one's gambling addiction? Isn't this contrary to many professionals advice to have self-discipline?

Why does need to reach the bottom before they ask for help?  Isn't it better to fix the problem when it is just starting so that the problem won't root itself and result in more destruction?

In this scenario gambler will have difficulty asking for help because he is deeply rooted to gambling addiction.  He totally lost control of himself and probably unaware that he is already drown in gambling addiction.

No, but I have seen people accompanying their relatives that shown a sign of gambling addiction consulting professionals to seek advice and treatment if needed.

A uncle of mine still can't balance is life till now, the wound from gambling addiction since year 2000 is still affecting him because he doesn't feel alive anymore, he has no hope or faith in anything anymore, he found solitude in hopelessness. He is the reason why I watch my ways with gambling, I don't ever want to end up like him in my life.

It is possible that your uncle hasn't undergone the right rehabilitation.  Or your uncle totally given up because of the thing that happen on him.  This is a matter of mental health beyond the problem of gambling addiction.

What you can do in those circumstances is to help them out genuinely and getting them out of their frustrations because it's the frustration that's making them act out the way they do and nothing serious. We're all going to be addicted as far we're gambling regularly but knowing how to control ourselves in this situation is vey important.

We know gambling addiction can ruin his life and the people around him. We have seen the worst on some documentaries regarding this, its not good especially if he is a family man. Falling from grace is always not pretty.

Leaving them completely to die in their bad time is not actually the best if you really call your self a friend, but for you to be there for one another justify your true friendship. Gambling addiction is one cronies addiction that has lead so many young people's with brighter future to their early doom in present time and the least you can do for a friend is to play your own little part by advising him,  taking him to a rehabilitation centre or maybe taking him on a vacation or something, try as much as you can to show a little concern or support at least to be at peace with your conscience.

I agree that a normal, friendly conversation cannot influence a person in most cases. Sooner or later, he will break down. But proper psychological observation of an addicted person sometimes builds a healthy direction for recovery. This is the work of psychologists: the formation of the correct worldview in a person with gambling addiction. Sometimes, only conversations are enough, conversations with a professional without additional medication. The most important thing is the regularity of therapy, since recovery will not occur after one or two sessions.

I can give just one advice. Don`t try to save all. It would be just spent of time without any result. Try to help your friends and your family if you have such a problem. For all others - just give an advice and leave them alone.
It can sounds cruelly but in real life you have to choose between few people who you can save or all others, who willn`t hear you.

Well, for an addicted gambler, the fact that they recognize the problem and realize that they should stop and seek help is already an achievement. I don't know if there are statistics on how many gamblers manage to solve their addiction problem, but I think it's a small percentage of the total number of addicted gamblers.

We have a forum member who was addicted, now is cured or in a process of recovering, and who has changed his attitude to gambling (he is still gambling, but without much passion or addiction as he used to have). You can read his topic or we can ask him how he has managed to achieve such a result. That is a rare case of success and return to gambling. From other stories I have seen, those rare who recover, are afraid of gambling like its fire.

They are addicted because they are stubborn. Most of the gamblers who are addicted are chasing money win or lose they want to win in any situation. A gambler is not initially stubborn when he keeps losing he becomes restless with the addiction to winning because his main target is to make money. You will see another example of gamblers who when they win in one game they are restless for another win but a smart gambler stops playing another game after getting a win. I agree with what you said, but I'll just add something when it comes to counselling. Counselling surely is very helpful especially when it comes to addicted gamblers, but for me, it's useless if you as an addicted gambler isn't ready to change. Any help would be helpful, but as long as you aren't ready to change, it will all be useless. Therapy is helpful, counselling is helpful, advice from friends are helpful, advice from your family will always be helpful, you in order for those to work in your favor, you need to help yourself as well by changing how you think.

As for gambling addiction, it's a result of many wrong decisions that we've done while we are gambling. It's the result of the mistakes that we've taken as we are gambling. If you can't control yourself, if you don't have the discipline, just don't gamble at all because gambling addiction can make your life miserable without you noticing it at all. I've seen many stories online already regarding gamblers that are already suffering because of their poor decisions in life.

You should know that gambling addiction, which has already had quite severe effects, will not be easily eliminated just through advice. Honestly, I do not fully agree with the idea of just waiting for someone to hit rock bottom before anything changes.. it is true that some people only wake up when life gets really rough, but the danger is that bottom does not look the same for everyone. For some, hitting bottom might mean losing money and realizing they need to fix up, but for others, it could mean losing their family, mental health, or even their life. At that point, there is no real recovery left.

I feel like early intervention is always better, even if it does not work at first. Friends, family, or even professional support can at least plant that seed in their head that change is possible. Addiction is messy, and waiting until it destroys everything might just be too late...

They make it their job because they erroneously believe that's where their financial redemption would come from. Sadly, it's a one out of 100 chance it would happen that way. Those who gamble to the point of addiction should've watched addicts before them and how they ended.
