If you go to coinbase home page, they say very prominently "bitcoin currency" and even underline it.
This is new in the last 2 days. Almost like they are making a contrarary statement to the irs.

Kinda interesting

Props to Coinbase, they run a tight operation and are probably the easiest way to buy Bitcoins.  Can't say LocalBitcoins, because everyone jacks up the price ridiculously.

If it's not a currency then all of these FinCEN regs that go along with money transmitters go right out the effing window, now don't they?

They should, as you can't have it both ways.  The IRS opened it's yapper and they can't have it both ways.  Time to take FinCEN to court on this issue.

This will attract a lot of unwanted attention towards Coinbase from the authorities. They should have kept quiet.

So, no one should stand up to authorities and bullies?

What we are going to gain, if the Coinbase declares that BTC is a currency? Nothing. We will gain, if a non-BTC entity declares so.
