Indonesia will pay $1.8m (£1m) in blood money to prevent an Indonesian maid being executed in Saudi Arabia. The maid, known as Satinah, was due to be beheaded in the next few days after being found guilty of murdering her female employer seven years ago.

I don't understand this concept of blood money. What is it actually?

I don't understand this concept of blood money. What is it actually?

Bribing the family of the victim so you're not going to get killed in revenge. Or to make them not file a lawsuit , depending on the country.


And it's not found just in islamic countries , but in korea or japan also.

It's not the same as in islam.
It's viewed as some kind of condolence money that doesn't imply the family won't pursue justice in court.

How about Blood Money Banks? I still don't get the likes of the Swiss Banks and others where a dictator or a drug lord can happily hide his ill-gotten gains, his blood money, with no questions asked. Here in the US if you are a retailer and bought stolen goods, you would be committing a crime. How are these Banks able to take money looted from poor people and not be held liable?

There is nothing the OP said in this thread that would make me believe he would be for bank blood money, dictator blood money, stolen blood goods or even a delicious glass of Indonesian maid blood with Swiss cheese...
