And by the way, this shit gives me a headache:
This spam is probably coming from one of several ledger email leaks, but it doesn't have to be the case.
Maybe you used same email address for registration on some exchange or other crypto service, and scammers always try to abuse that.
This doesn't have any connection with latest compliance crap, but I would not be surprised if scammers try to use this in one of their future phishing campaigns.

Isn't there an attack where the third-party mailing services used by famous businesses spread phishing emails in the last few months or so? Ledger sounds like a big target for stuff like this. CMIIW.

Probably, but it's been my policy to NOT read any sort of news and that policy has served me well for years--if I did read or watch any sort of news, I'd likely have become a homicidal maniac and ended up in a penitentiary or I'd have traveled to the tallest building I could buy a train ride to and enjoyed the increasing breeze as I eventually reached terminal velocity and ultimately terminal pavement contact.

All right, I do read some financial news online, but I mostly skim and I keep one finger on my pulse.

So anyhow, who the hell knows how we got those annoying e-mails showing up in throwaway accounts.  I'm not particularly bothered.  I'm more amused than anything else due to the spammers' tenacity (though they're probably cranking that shit out with a bot).  But whatever the case may be, I stand by my 'fuck Ledger' position.

I'm also not just a little bit paranoid about the amount of data that gets collected on all of us and yet some of the largest companies can't even keep from getting hacked and thus exposing we plebs to who-knows-what.

Probably the best way to avoid being bothered by such spam is to set up the relevant filters for your email inboxes. Personally, I’ve done this by adding words related to the wallets I use to the filters. This has worked for me so far. That said, I’m fully aware that no filter is perfect, so I made the rule for myself of never clicking on unexpected links or attachments that land in my inbox.

. Maybe in the next 1 or two years, they will come up with another thing again. Or maybe they will come up with it within months.
They will end up no customers on that period of time in two years or so if they continues with practices that contradict the core principles of cryptocurrency and transparency. And now they can be used by government as dogs of course with privacy and limit using those device? Well, that's a pretty good continuing step to lose their user base.

I wouldn’t be so sure about that. In an ideal world they shouldn’t even exist and yet they do. People also shouldn’t be using any service that enforces KYC on its users but guess what, millions of people don’t care. Centralized exchanges are working like a money printing press.

Most Crypto hodlers shouldn’t even be using any hardware wallets as it makes zero sense to do so regardless of the brand and yet again, lots of people do.

My point is, ledger will do fine. Cool

Scrolled through Twitter and I can still see a lot of people going for this crap every day. My guess is some don’t even have a full understanding of what they’re getting into. They just hear that hardware wallets are safer and, of course, since a certain wallet is popular and keeps popping up everywhere, they just follow the trend and end up buying junk. As long as people keep behaving this way, I agree Ledger will stay intact for a good number of years Tongue.

Unfortunately, Ledger is a gateway for beginners, as their marketing is strong. But eventually, some of these people will migrate to better and more secure forms of storage, if they stay informed, such as air-gapped cold storage like Krux or Electrum/Bitcoin Core, both online and offline (two different computers, one online and other offline, to sign transactions).  Smiley

Filters are ok, but using email alias is better, especially if you can create a lot of them.
You simply generate new alias that is dedicated only for one specific service, that way you will have more control.
And for things that are not important or for some testing you can always use temp emails.
You will be 100% safe if you purchase HW locally with cash/crypto Wink
