UEFA changed the drawing process and the effect was that it made some small country teams more welcome because previously it would be super rare to see any small country reach the champions league. Now league winner teams from many small countries enter directly into the second round of qualifications.

Now with the Conference League around it's also easier to see smaller teams in international competition. But UEFA seems to have rehauled the format for Europa and Champions league too.

Certain countries now enter the second qualifying round directly. In some other international forums I heard that there's some dissatisfaction of this because now mid-tear teams have it easier to enter and effectively take spots of better teams.

I'd venture to guess that UEFA decided it's about the money because there's some really passionate ultras in more disadvantaged parts of europe too. Or am I missing something. Feel free to give your thoughts.

Apart from the experience of playing in tougher leagues, some of these smaller teams will comfortably thrash the big teams we so much adore. same smaller teams will sometimes win against the popular ones during friendlies. it is a good one that we are seeing a more inclusive champions league that is now opened to champions across leagues that are not even all that popular.

The major issue is that most of them can not stand up to the heat that comes with the champions league. even after getting the opportunity of playing they will end up being used as a source of getting cheap point. that is why year after year, we don't really see new teams breaking into contending for the champions league apart from the regular ones we already know. giving smaller teams the previledge of playing for the champions league is not the issue, the issue is that most of them are not even ready to embrace such previledge with the right energy level.

That's right, the more the club engagements in the upper league, the more money is being made from it. The smaller clubs would make good money from tickets sold out because their team will be hosting a bigger team in their return home matches. UEFA must have had this thought thoroughly so that other smaller team too can put efforts in building up and also making good profit to enable them also source for good players to make up their team and also they too will be able to showcase their players for other bigger clubs interest.

But as for me it was bad idea. On the other hand we see more injures, more money for big teams, players cost inflation. Also we have additional international matches. As the result players breaks totally: injures, mental problems, 2 games per week and no rest.

Good, they should go and compete so they get better exposure and some great talents can be seen and recognized too. Although they may not stand a chance against stronger teams, but it's good they get exposed.

I wouldn't subscribe to this mindset that they're taking spots of anybody, they're the better teams in their league so any recognition to that effect is welcome. If those assumed better teams wanted to participate, they should've qualified for it in their respective leagues. If this information is true then I feel it creates a sense of inclusion to other smaller leagues.

It will be as a result to bring promotion to the local (small teams) using the opportunities of playing with bigger teams to expand it "fan base" and networks to explore with the awareness of engagement with international famous leagues.

I see this pattern as a strategy to uproot potential professional players with the entitlements to migrate from the small teams to the big teams because lot of the players have the qualities to play with the big teams while they lack the opportunities to be recognized accordingly.

i knew that this was gonna be a thing but smaller countries most likely have lesser budget and therefore are in a disadvantage because the big countries have better facilities, training programs and whatnot and i think it is fine to give other countries at least a chance to fight and to make the fighting more exciting and diverse

If that is the case, then what is the point in making changes to the champions league format? They are not good enough to quality now, so the changes are just a way to what, get rid of the qualification system? That sounds to me like when a school claims their students are doing better than last year because they lowered the grade required to pass the course. Maybe I am misunderstanding something but I do not really see the point here.
