Hello Everyone,

This is the rig I am building, I have 3 280x's right now and a 4th on the way. I plan on going to 5 or six possibly with 2 PSU's but that's another topic.

GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 motherboard
AMD Sempron 145 Processor (SDX145HBGMBOX)
Corsair AX1200i- Platinum Rated PSU
8GB RAM
Running on Ubuntu 13.10 (Linux)
Non-powered risers

Now... I have not undervolted any of the GPU's yet so they are all currently sitting at the stock 1.2V

I was wondering if I would be able to run a 4th card on that same AX1200i without undervolting the cards... and how safe that would be because I know it would have to be close to max load. I have ordered a watt meter so I can see exactly how many watts im pulling at the wall but that is not here yet either. any help would but greatly appreciated and I will also provide discounts or extra time on renting my rig when we its done at https://www.betarigs.com/rig/3841 if you want haha

I will need help in the future on how to undervolt these suckers too so I will be open to any help possible.

Thanks in advance for any and all responses!

You could but you'll be pushing the limit.  Some of these PSUs can push a little more than spec'd but the efficiency just gets shot.

Better off getting say, two 850w and using a splitter.  That way you'll have lots of headroom and a much lower hydro bill.

I've got ~12 of these units running with np for months now.

Absolutely no need to run 2 PSU for 4 280x though.

You should be ok with that Corsair AX1200i. Each card use about 250 watts, unless you have it super OC'ed. If OC'ed, then a 1400 to 1500 watts PSU would be needed or a secound PSU to cover the overhead.

Thanks for the replies. I have my 4th card now as well as some gridseed asics that I am itching to hook up but I do not have the watt meter yet so your responses have helped. I may just get the second PSU to be sure, I do not want to overload or keep the Corsair at max load. This is really the first rig I have been building myself but I have been lurking on [Suspicious link removed]ince probably late 2010 or early 2011 and this is the first time ive posted haha

Does anyone have a rig similar... 4 Gigabyte R9 280X Rev2 GPU's on a single power AX1200i PSU that is working and they can post a picture of or some stats? I would like to see what some of my fellow GPU miners are using.

Thanks again,

-DrCharles
