I feel comfortable with the current forum layout, I hope it stay with us.
There are still some good techs to help resolve issues. It doesn't look as if there is as much help as there used to be for people that are really new to Bitcoin, but there are now a lot of videos on platforms such as YouTube, so maybe that isn't as important. There is quite a lot of fud and rubbish there, so I guess a bit of guidance wouldn't go amiss for new members. I live in hope that we can attract some serious political and/or banking figures, but then, they probably only post where they  can influence government policies. I haven't checked on the mining boards. They used to be a bit discouraging for solo miners. A brief flirtation with solo mining can be a good introduction to the world of Bitcoin. I believe we should do more to encourage it.

Everything will always seem different after a while. Nothing is permanent. Any person returning to an old place will think about what has changed. In fact, people change. Perhaps you have learned to ignore what you did not like and appreciate what you did not notice? If you, OP, had people here who were interesting to you, perhaps you would return to them; if not, you will meet new and different people, no less interesting. Desire is important; if you do not have it, do not force yourself.

I didn't meet the forum when it had uncontrolable spam. But I have heard of it severally and it seems the apex of that spam attack was 2018 and I heard that so many old users left the forum because of the spam.
You can return now, because the merit system has solved that problem, but I am also sorry to announce to you that another type of spam is here - The AI spam

For the epoch forum, the idea has been dropped because it was on the verge to cost $5M to be developed.

Compared to the period from 2015-2018 when it comes to spam, today the situation is much better because spammers have a hard time advancing in the ranks, and sig campaigns are run by people, not bots as was the case in the past. So if it's just a question of spam then I don't see that as a reason for someone not to return to the forum - although I find it strange in itself that the OP would even ask such a question.

Telling users to stay away it's a shithole that is only full of spam is smart to keep those signature earnings going? What happens when you run everyone off? Who advertises here then?

My post quality is better than most of the users you have ever hired in any campaign. Why should I suffer to read the junk that you support, simultaneously forgo money to spammers, all just to read a few threads and participate in a few discussions? Any money that I take is money taken away from a spammer. Luke would say that I am doing God's work here, you are welcome.   I welcome other valuable users who do the same, but there are too few of those here to make a significant impact on spam.

I doubt it, most of the spammers always sell. They don't care about your precious BTC. You can observe the behavior of the receiving wallets, many of which are exchange addresses.

If spam had been the problem in the past then it's no more again now, because the merit system has helped in so many ways to flush out the spammers and avoid them from ranking, of course we can't claimed this was completely done at 100% but the little ones remaining have always been finding it difficult to emerge, because they got reported and the moderators act accordingly.

I remember the new forum plan going on for like a decade lol it became kind of a meme for me. I checked back up on it a couple months ago and yeah it looks like they're no longer pursuing it. I actually want to develop a chat feature for bitcointalk myself and I've had personal interest over the years on making a general forum software so forums can take over the internet again since I don't like the segmented thread design that has taken over and is used by sites like reddit. So maybe if I make this new and improved general forum software that many sites can implement then possibly bitcointalk would implement it as well. I will most likely first work on the chat feature for bitcointalk though, as long as people want it of course.

As far as the spam I think it's still very bad, it seems like most people are just farming posts for signature campaign payouts. The quality isn't anywhere near what it was early in bitcointalk. Even when people shitposted early in the forums history at least those posts were kind of endearing, the shitposts now are just slop.

They are generic bullshit, much worse than AI slop. Genuine troll posts would be much less spammy and much more entertaining than this. Almost all threads that have many pages are full of this slop, very few of them even try to have an actual low quality conversation. Anyway, a good case example can be found above you.

In everything that developed, there are changes and as you can see there are changes in the forum. And the forum old and new members welcome you. Anyone that was here and the person still loves bitcoin and the person is still alive and healthy will definitely remember this forum and make a return to the forum and the forum is always available to welcome them back. Now you have to see new things in the forum.
Many names you knew before might have changed to another nicknames. More Local Boards were added to the forum and more merit sources added. The new forum that was planned to execute was cancelled along the line. And finally the total number of users in the forum has been increased more than when you were here.
The forum accept both those who are well educated in bitcoin and those who are not well informed in bitcoin so those who don't know anything about bitcoin always ask questions and sometimes write nonsense and mistake is unavoidable in human life so spamming is still exist. You can report them to mod if you see them or ignore them.

Spam is not so bad. There are lots of people posting for the sake of posting and everything they write is bland, but you can spot them fairly easily. You should mostly watch out for scam attempts. But I think you don't need to be reminded, since you are familiar with the forum.

Hey, welcome back.

Considering the fact that you left the forum in 2022 (says your post history), and were around after the years when the merit system was introduced, you must have noticed that the spam was greatly reduced after the system was introduced, but of course, you can't end it completely. So yeah, you will find spam even now, but the forum itself is still pretty good; we still have very useful and knowledgeable users with us, which is proof that it isn't yet a complete sh*thole.

Click the ignore button or scroll past what you believe is a spammer and don't let them ruin your experience here.

Or, maybe even press the "report to moderator" button and contribute a little to reduce the spam. So many people think it's not worth it, but it is. If 5,000 people report 1 post per day, we will get rid of 5,000 useless posts. Wouldn't that make a difference? Of course, it would.

If you are expecting to find better forum than it was few years ago than I don't think so.
More OG members left the forum, theymos banned mixers, and conversation between members is not getting any better.
You can however select topics you like and talk with close circle of like minded people.

The OG members have close friends they interact with and easily give out merits to.
Sometimes, you don't need to interfere in any board they are discussing because you could easily be ignored even if you made some senses. The world is indeed not fair.

Sorry, but I don't totally agree with that. I know that we can find members that have good relations or are in good talking terms with each other giving out merits to each other's posts, but that doesn't mean they have specific circles and they do it only that way, it simply means that they mostly agree with each other's points or find the posts worthy of merits, or maybe they like the posts they read.

I've interrupted so many threads and discussions with old users with very high reputations, and I can't say I always went unnoticed, especially if what I posted made some sense based on the discussion and the points that I've made weren't already discussed or posted by another user. The quality of your post actually depends on how unique yet on-topic it is, and how it contributes to the discussion. If you manage to do that, no matter what thread it is, no matter how many OGs are in discussion there, you won't go unnoticed, and I say this based on personal experience.

Dead dead dead. Not even an obituary for it. Though I reckon that with the forum's posts I'm collecting via Talksearch, I would theoretically be able to create a mirror of the forum.

I have no idea ho it was back in those early days, but there's not much spam at the moment. Call it one of the beneits of forum being way less active than in past, and introduction of merit system also helped with that.

Regarding your question whether its worth it to come back? If you still like forums and miss this type of communication, they I say that it is because there's nothing out there that it can compare to bitcointalk.

This topic made me reflect a bit. I was active from 2017 (95% of my posts were in my local board) until 2019, meaning I was here before the merit system came into effect (I myself thought I would never rank up, I earned about 250 merits dropped because I was a Sr member at that time). It was here on this forum that I discovered cryptography techniques I hadn't found anywhere else at the time, where people only wanted to know about the price of Bitcoin, the right time to buy and sell, and all that newbie talk.

Well, around mid-2019, I wasn't finding much interesting stuff here anymore, and due to my work-focus, I stopped posting on this forum for 4-5 years. But from time to time, I'd open it to see what was cool, post something or other, and then disappear.

Today I'm back, still the same, but with more experience, all thanks to this forum, always learning and contributing.

Be so nice if all crypto OGs come back here and work towards something huge, Bitcoin is great, Monero is amazing, but I am sure there's more to be done in favor of humanity's freedom and decentralized anon finance.

It's always worth coming back. This spam issue is a false one, because it's possible for people to only focus on what really interests them.

Might it be difficult to find some content? It's possible, but that's not because of spam, but because of the sheer amount of content the forum has. The more content, the less clearly indexed it becomes, the harder it becomes to locate any content. This doesn't mean that this content is bad in itself. The dynamics of the community, combined with the way the forum works, generate content that is more or less relevant to some.

It is up to each user to know what is of interest to them and what is not, so as not to get "lost" in this global community.
