This is clearly a cause for concern, especially since you are one of his close friends, who may be indirectly affected by the negative impact of your friend's gambling addiction. On the other hand, you also have an obligation to help your friend realize his addiction problem.
When someone gambles beyond the amount of money they can afford to lose, even to the point of risking all their savings, that person is in a dangerous situation. This is because they have prioritized gambling above everything else, even above their own needs. They do not think about their future and do not even think about tomorrow. When someone gambling has reached this point, it will be quite difficult to make them realize it, so my message is, just let them be until they hit rock bottom, let them feel regret first, and only then should we come to help them.

A chronic gambling addict needs only one thing immediately: moral support to quit gambling as soon as possible. Any other advice won't stop the problem, because as soon as he finds money in his hands, he spends it quickly without thinking. He has no control over his finances and could destroy those who help him by indulging him. As a friend, you have two options: stop him or stay away.

That's a full-blown addiction. It's hard to give advice to someone like this because I'm sure they won't listen if they are still influenced by stress and frustration due to big losses. Don't dare to try to have a conversation with him about his habit while drunk; he might be angry.
You are actually right here and I also share the same sentiment with you sir, their is no point advicing such fellow because he would not listen, I believe that we as adults we will eventually face the consequences of every decision taken, so he is more likely going to learn the hard way and advice himself because by following such traits, he is definitely going to runs into serious troubles financially. I have gambled with an amount I cannot afford to lose in the past like three to four times, and I know how damaging it was financially then, so if a gambler is doing the same unwise thing, I am confident that after learning the hard way, either once, twice or even more times, their will come a time he will seat down and start advicing himself because the financial troubles he will enter will be enough reason for him to stop that irresponsible act of his.

What would be your advice for such if they were to be your friends as a caring friend who want them to not get financially drained in the process?
There are many people who gamble beyond their means, which doubles the risk of losing money. It is not right to force people addicted to gambling to change their habits quickly. Rather, calmly explain that his loved ones are moving away due to addiction and warn him about the loss of money, so that he does not think of you as his enemy, he understands that you want his well-being and want to protect him from danger. Advise him that if you have to gamble, you should play by setting time and money limits, this will increase your self-control and prevent excessive risk. If you are able to convince him that gambling is not primarily a way to earn money for entertainment or get rich quick, gambling can never be a part of life, then it is hoped that he will gradually be able to get out of the addiction.

What would be your advice for such if they were to be your friends as a caring friend who want them to not get financially drained in the process?
If they were my close friends I would first talk to them calmly and show them how much they are actually losing compared to what they earn. Because people don’t realize the importance of their income until they calculate it. Just like if we spend our money without calculating it at the beginning of the month, we end up having to borrow money at the end of the month. If my friend still doesn’t understand the loss after explaining it to him, I’d also suggest they set a small limit for fun and stop once it’s gone, or even take a break completely. At the end it’s about making them see that gambling won’t fix money problems, it usually makes them worse.

I got really worried over the habit of some friends who are into betting or gambling and how they often stake into a game in a week more than what they earn even in a month and most time are not able to get it back in a couple of plays. So it got me really worried and concerned
What would be your advice for such if they were to be your friends as a caring friend who want them to not get financially drained in the process?
They are grown ass adults, why would you feel worry for them? Worrying only sound right if they are kids, the mistakes they will make will teach them a lesson and the smart ones among them will learn from it, the stupid ones will keep trying to atleast get their losses back and the road to addiction becomes a must for them. When people don't think about slow and steady but want things to happen very fast this is end result, they always become an addict, there are too many examples around me and not a single one made anything with gambling.

What would be your advice for such if they were to be your friends as a caring friend who want them to not get financially drained in the process?
Lecture them on the importance of always gambling with what you can afford to lose, and if they are still being dogmatic about the whole thing and don’t want to change their ways or start to reduce the amount that they are using for each stakes, then I’ll let them be and allow them to do their things. In my country, there are some people who might even start to think that you’re against them if you try too much to make them change their ways, they might even start thinking that you don’t want them to have a decent win or you want to reduce the amount that they could potentially win if they keep betting with a large sum, so you need to be careful so you don’t get labeled as a destiny blocker while trying to help them.

you need a specialist, a psychologist, is not a problem that can be solved easily the problem is right there, maybe he didn't fall into gambling and betting but he fell into alcohol or smoking, it doesn't matter when you become dependent on something it means that you are psychologically fragile

The thing is will they be able to listen to our advise? That is the most important thing first. Because is pretty obvious that such person is highly addicted to gambling so your advise alone might not solve the problem because they would definitely want to chase after losses. But come to think of it how can someone have such mentality of betting above his earnings, noing fully well that luck plays a significant role in determining the final outcome. Gambling is supposed to be a game of fun and entertainment with only what you can afford to lose because there is no guarantee of winnings in gambling.

I know this guy irl, who trades futures, he takes blind trades akin to gambling, he gets paid from job, puts money into futures and blows up, I have told him a few times to not do so, it would be rather better to save up salary, he doesn't listen, what can you do? (tbf I don't really care to do anything further either).

This is something that a lot of gamblers are doing and it doesn't really make any sense. It's often caused by addiction, when you start staking above your means and forgetting that you always exceed your limit it's obvious that it has become an addiction. The only reasonable solution to people that actually do this is for them to retrace their steps and focus more on gambling with the amounts they can lose comfortably
Or much better to completely pause and start re-assessing the situation, gambler mostly forget that they don't have unlimited money, once they've got attached and engaged too much most of the time they are willing to use such amount that not really intend for gambling, then after losing everything regret is the only thing that reminds them by the mistake they've done, without self-control and a good discipline to use only the amount that you can let go, there's always a big chance that addiction can happen.

A gambler who does not know how to properly manage his bankroll is doomed to place large bets that can quickly wipe out his bankroll (unlucky scenario). But he always need to have some money to increase the stakes and try to win back - this is my simplest tactic in gambling and betting. And of course, I do not mean crazy lending of money, but only actions within a money. That is why I again consider placing very small bets on sports even when I am almost certain of the outcome of the match.

I think this is a tricky situation. Of course your friends are in a bad situation, but they will also be annoyed with you if you mention something to them. It's a bit of a lose lose situation really...

I think if this happens, then no advice will help. A person must learn a lesson the hard way. After all, if he spends more than he earns, the problem of lack of funds will appear very quickly, right? This is the moment when you should talk to your friend. I think at this stage there is a chance to convince him that he is acting incorrectly. But if the attempt fails, then you should not worry too much, everyone chooses their own destiny.

it is actually for entertainment although it is not bad if a gamber tries to win but while we are trying to win, we shouldn't deviate from the whole gambling concept which is gambling with what one can afford to lose, being aware that losing is inevitable I think this things will make a gambler to think twice when trying to take unnecessary risk in something thats not assured or certain. With how difficult it is to make money this time around, a gambler is supposed to learn how they should only gamble with the amount they can afford to lose and also the amount that they can easily earn back from their consistent source of income. Someone might be willing to lose a small but big amount in gambling meanwhile they can not cover up that money from their one month salary. Gambling is for entertainment but as one is getting entertained, they also stand the chance to win big but they don't need to be had head on it. Winning a huge amount comes surprisingly. Big truth bro, only bet money you can afford to lose. Staying safe is entirely up to you dude, the best way to stay safe in gambling world spread your bet as much as possible by using lowest stake, i personally dont go over 2% of my bankroll, if i win feel happy if lost then no pain cause 2% is not much worthy to me,, if you able to follow this frictional way then your growth is awaiting for long run.. another thing is never chase losses, that's the most important sign of a gambling disorder. i actually try to secure all my winnings in the volt as soon as possible, i never wait for big jackpot. withdraw regularly and shake unnecessary tension from your head.

You outline some factors that can lead to excessive gambling and some methods gamblers should apply in other to stay safe while gambling, I feel bad whenever I see some gamblers wallowing in what I called foolishness, is just like knowing that you can really get what your mindset is telling you as a gambler but you go ahead chasing shadows when you know that such will never come to reality, there has never been a time we were asured that when we gamble we must win, then if we weren't assured, why will anyone risk more than he or he can bear, is this not uncalculated risk, to lessen mental stress, I think gamblers should think before the cat, they should not be too quick to put their assumptions into practice.

If I had such friends, I would try to gain experience from them. I would try to learn about how they gamble and what their strategies are when betting and what types of gambling games they participate in. I do not consider those friends as dangerous friends because there is a lot to learn from them. They are at risk of becoming addicted in the future but they should have the ability to recover after losing a lot of money because they are experienced in gambling.

Quite wise. Indeed, when they are adults, they should be able to consider what they should and shouldn't do, and they should already know the consequences. So, when they take action, they should be prepared for the risks that will occur. Even if it causes them misery, it can be a lesson (for those with mature or wise thinking). If you make a mistake in your thinking once, you will make mistakes in the future. Addiction is a certainty for people like this.

It could go either way because if they gamble more then earn but have previously saved then its ok within that budget of prior earnings. Thats the way to do it anyway so you always have a buffer, if you do gamble your future bill money then its obviously opening up disaster and stress.
Over spending is stress and stress is a good reason why you will lose more, it will put you under pressure which Im certain is not going to help your chances of returns or good decisions while gambling because then you have to win right that moment or face unpaid bill stress etc. Under duress you will not do well imo

Not all adults can think like an adult and be responsible on their finances. There’s a lot of gambling addiction cases that prove my point that not everyone can handle good decision making especially in gambling. Influence of gambling makes someone think not logically and follow their greed on their decisions that’s why a help from someone can help to snap out of addiction. But if you don’t know personally the person or you don’t have deep relationships I think there’s no point on butting in.
