I would recommend that he knows how the sports he wants to bet on work, but normally I think that most people will know this or at least have a basis to understand them well, and start by betting low amounts and only making simple bets, he will learn the rest eventually because it is not that difficult to understand, but if he starts betting things like crazy things could get complicated for him and he could find it overwhelming to have so many combined bets.

Well, I don't think I should recommend any of those alternatives to this person, because at first place, if he is intended to bet on sports, it should mean he is already interested on sports matters, naturally. Otherwise, why would he engage on this practice? For profits? Then, I would advise him to avoid going ahead, because he is interested in sports betting for the wrong reason, as he can't rely on profits the more he places bets on sports matches.

In my opinion, that is something you can't teach someone, as they should present a genuine interest for themselves. If they are naturally curious and focused on sports, then they might want to try their luck and predictions by placing bets on the matches. Honestly, of someone completely new to the world of gambling and sport betting came to me for advice, I would tell them to first read a bookabout statistics and how the laws of chances rule over his sessions, regardless what casino they use to wager their money. Once the person understand the basics of statistics and the chance they actually have to get money out different games and also from betting on sports, then I would direct them to seek for their favorite sport,.the one which invokes passion on them, and start to watch matches and get up to date with the most important information and news, so they can start to gamble more confidently.
Also, I would obviously to give some advice on bankroll management and how not to allow the feelings of greed to take over common sense, that is the basics...

You will need a little knowledge of the sports to be able to know what to choose in the bet. The recommendation will always be to learn about the sports and its rules, then one can start gambling and perfect the knowledge as you continue in gambling so you learn from experience which is the fastest way to learn. This might be a bit odd but why not poker? It will require the person patience because of how the game goes and once he learned to be patient. I think that he's far from being addicted. So, the main concern is to protect that new gamble from being addicted. With casino games, they're very quick and fast paced and the tendency for that guy to become addicted is very high. From experience with people, they are more interested with the booking site, they would only come to you when they do not understand some selections and want clarification, Most people already watch sports even before trying out the gambling aspect of it and they tend to be good in their picks.

Again it is not totally about knowing sports, if you know the selections very well, you can know when to get the picks and maximize your chances. I believe experience brings more success in sports betting. If you have more experience, you can figure out ways to maximize your options. The experienced person has more chances actually, but gambling has no strict rules to success as some newbie gamblers ends up cashing out huge in sports betting.

So, have some peoples that  think just because they already know a sport well, can bet without fear because they will be very successful... But in my opinion, this is a big mistake!

My opinion are the every beginner should have at least a basic understanding of management bankroll probability and mathematical statistics... because that is what casinos rely on to make money, even from experienced bettors the odds will always be in their favor, no matter how good a bettor is.

Any self proclaimed "experienced" player who does not understand these concepts will, at some point, bet based on "feel", significantly increase their stake after a win or think they can quickly recover their losses after a loss.

I think sports betting has this thing that captures the imagination of many people.

They believe that somehow they can win big because they know their team.

And to a certain extent this is true. If you have some kind of internal information, that is not available to generate the odds, then it might be possible to win a bit.

But over time, the system will predict more matches more accurately than your information, and on top of that you have the fact that the odds are generated and calculated to be against the gambler.

Of course, the first thing I’ll advise is to actually watch the sport. Gather information for both teams or fighters, everything you need to help analyze the matchup. Next would be understanding moneyline, spread, over/under, all the basics of what to bet on. Actually you do have a very point but i also think that wanting to find out themselves may also include asking you because he may want to learn from experience because it will be better to learn from experience than to just do random research because there are some things you will get to learn from experience that you may never get to learn via research alone so that wealth of experience may just be something they may need to add up to that which they will be getting form the research they will be doing by themselves.

I have to know where their knowledge level is at first. You know that for someone who becomes interested in sports betting, it means that they already have some knowledge about the sports. For the betting part of it, I would question him on his best mode of learning - is it video, audio, text, or in groups? There are a million resources to it and will guide him appropriately to the one of his choice. Lastly, I will be his go-to-guy for answering his questions and confusions. And I will use that opportunity to tell him about gambling addiction and responsible gambling.
