[ANN] Parallax | Ethash Proof-of-Work | Bitcoin-Inspired EVM Chain | Mainnet Launch – October 28, 2025

Parallax is a new Proof-of-Work blockchain protocol designed to merge the security model of Bitcoin with the programmability of the EVM.
The network is launching its mainnet on October 28, 2025, and invites miners, node operators, and developers to participate from genesis.

Overview
  • Consensus: Ethash Proof-of-Work (GPU-friendly)
  • Block Interval: ~10 minutes
  • Monetary Policy: Bitcoin-style halving, maximum supply of 21,000,000 Laxes
  • Emission Schedule: Transparent and deterministic, modeled after Bitcoin’s supply curve
  • Compatibility: Fully EVM-compatible, enabling deployment of existing Ethereum tooling and applications

Mining
  • Algorithm: Ethash (with Parallax-specific parameters)
  • Hardware: Existing GPU rigs compatible with other Ethash networks will be able to mine PRLX at launch
  • Objective: Ensure a fair launch with no premine, no ICO, and no privileged allocations
  • Security: Early mining participation is critical to decentralization and resistance against hash-rate shocks from other networks

Open-Source Development
Parallax is developed transparently, with all codebases and documentation publicly accessible. The project explicitly rejects closed-source governance models and is committed to community-driven growth.

Participation
  • Miners: Secure the network from block one and receive PRLX block rewards
  • Node Operators: Run validators, bootnodes, and contribute to the health of the peer-to-peer network
  • Developers: Deploy applications, audit code, and expand the Parallax ecosystem
  • Community: Contribute to discussions, translations, and outreach initiatives

Resources

Parallax is designed as a fair-launch, permissionless, and open-source network. By combining Bitcoin’s emission philosophy with an EVM execution layer, it aims to provide a secure, predictable, and extensible foundation for decentralized applications.

Mainnet will be live on October 28, 2025. Early participants are invited to verify the code, run infrastructure, and mine from genesis.

Looks interesting. I have a few key questions:

1. PoW + DAA: Which hash algorithm? Compete with BTC (SHA-256), merge-mine, or ASIC-resistant? With volatile hash early on, why 2016-block retarget with 4× bounds--won't that stall? Any ASERT/DGW-style alternative?
2. EVM config: ChainID, EIP-1559 on/off, gas target per 10-min block, and expected UX (throughput/latency) with such long blocks. Any MEV policy?
3. Client/tooling: Base client (geth/reth fork?), explorer/RPC readiness, and audits. Any dev bounties?

Thanks for the solid questions, let me break it down:

1. PoW + DAA
Parallax runs on Ethash — memory-hard, GPU-friendly, chosen to avoid early SHA-256 ASIC centralization. No merge-mining with BTC, this is its own chain.
Difficulty adjusts every 2016 blocks with the same ±4× bounds as Bitcoin. That’s intentional: conservative, predictable, and audit-friendly. Faster schemes (ASERT/DGW) adapt quicker but add governance/tuning risk. We’d rather inherit Bitcoin’s “slow but ossified” model, even if launch is bumpier.

2. EVM config
Unique ChainID will be set before launch to prevent replay.
No EIP-1559 — Parallax sticks to first-price gas auctions, all fees to miners, no burning (to preserve the 21M cap).
Gas limit starts at 600M per 10-min block (~1M gas/sec, about half of Ethereum). Can be tuned by miners, but sticking with 600M gas limit as a conservative default at launch.
Latency is Bitcoin-like: 10m confirmations at L1, with rollups expected for faster UX.
MEV is treated the same as Ethereum today — neutral L1, leave solutions to miners/tools.

3. Client/tooling
The client is geth based with PoW + Parallax consensus baked in.
Explorer + public RPC soon after launch. We prefer the community involvement in this area to assure users have plenty of options to choose from besides the official ones.
Open-sourced from day one, community review first, formal audits later.
Bug bounties/dev incentives are planned, but no premine/governance token — everything starts clean at genesis.

Parallax is an experiment in merging Bitcoin’s ossified rules with Ethereum’s programmability. Neutrality > short-term tuning.

Firstly, the node has been unable to synchronize for three hours now, secondly, why is the block time indicated as 10 minutes, when the actual block time is 10 seconds!?
