OP asked a really good question and I think that placing series of small bets very often is more addictive as it creates habit of gambling, which is step towards addiction. When one places two big bets yearly it is like one time event and it won't create habit, thus it is less addictive. But on other hand bigger the bet, bigger adrenaline rush it creates which can also be addictive, but as I said it is one time event and it won't create tolerance like small continuous doses would.
