But for the people who buy bitcoin, I am sure we all have different reasons for wanting to buy. Does the intention why you bought bitcoin in the first place matter?

I would say yes. If your intent is to keep up with the trends and make easy money then you are most likely to give up immediately and be attacked by FUD easily. But if you truly believe in bitcoin and its fundamental characteristics then you can stick with it against the bear market.

If you say everyone has a different reason for buying bitcoin then I doubt because judging from our activities it seems we all wanted bitcoin because of its ability or capability to appreciate or give a return of investment or make profit out of it, furthermore we can then separate this general need or desires by technological details or inbuilt of bitcoin hence I argue anyone has something different then profit making in mind.

Most of the FOMO guys and bandwagons are in for the quick profits and completely don't even know how Bitcoin works. All they care about it is because the price went from let's say $1,000 to 115,000, and they hope to make such profit one day

Isn't the intent of every investor to Bitcoin profit?  Whether they knew the technology behind Bitcoin or not, as long as they know the market movement and the nature of the volatility of Bitcoin, they won't get shaken even if there are price crashes everywhere.

I agree that those who are involved with the thinking of quick profit might be shaken when the market crashes since these people are in a hurry to buy Bitcoin hoping the price surge in a short period of time and their fund is not ready for a long term investment.

I do agree that there's a difference between buying for short-term pump and long-term benefits, but I'm not sure I can judge which one is the right thing to do. Different people have different capital to begin with. Some of them can't stick with a long-term plan for various reasons, while people with bigger capital can profit a lot just by swing-trading regularly. At the end of the day, both are looking for profit, so if their decision leads to profit, I'd call it the right decision (unless they're screwing others and do other bad stuff that disrupts the market).

sure, anyone that only focus on the trend or want to make quick money from bitcoin may get disappointed by bitcoin volatility especially when the price is down, so we should prioritize long term investment over short term investment. the goal is to accumulate bitcoin stash now as much as possible to have more sizable bitcoin stash in our portfolio against the future, because the future is definitely bright with bitcoin.

Look, anyone who wants to keep up with the trends and make easy money can be disappointed by the Bitcoin crash, which may cause many to give up immediately because we know that the value of this currency fluctuates depending on many factors, so the chances of being affected by FUD are high. But there are some people who use appropriate strategies to replenish their portfolios even after the price of Bitcoin drops and they wait for multiple cycles and they are holding it against the bear market because they have faith in the basic features.

Of course, you should understand what you want and to get out of your Bitcoin investment. That's why for most of us, it's better to really get a full cycle to really understand how everything works as I'm under the impression that there could investors who just ride on the bull market and then get off when we are in the bearish trend.

But they don't know that the money is coming from the bear market as this is where the price is at a discount.

Intent = making profits should be the goal. So start fresh again as we might be entering 2026 in a bear market and then pre-halving and bull run, that's how the market cycle works every time.

You are absolutely right but maybe the OP means that some people different intentions in buying bitcoin could be for holding long term, holding short term, for swing trading, day trading or scalping. It can even be for position trading or for fundamental analysis reason and so on. We all know that people bought bitcoin because they believe the price of bitcoin will appreciate.

Each individual, it might matter at the beginning. But in the long run, I don't think that it will be anymore. The intention of many why we're buying is because we want to hold and profit from it.

You ask a beginner and they'd say that it's all about the potential profit that they'll get from buying bitcoin. And that's enough intent to say why they're buying it.
