Hypocrites? Yes that's the right word for these politicians especially if they use government money for their gambling, I've also heard that some politicians there have suffered significant losses, I wonder if they also gamble online?
But hey this kind of situation isn't unique to your country. I'm pretty sure there are politicians who behave like this in other countries even in my own.

Very likely they gamble on online casinos, they cannot just show up at a brick and mortar casino and risk people to recognize them, take picture of them and create a political scandal, you know.

It is easier for them to hide their losses in that way.

In my opinion, people tend to idealize politicians as people who are supposed to be spotless and have the least numbers of flaws possible, but in reality they are human beings as anyone of us, so they are allowed to have their hobbies, of gambling is one of them, I would have no problem with it as long as there is enough transparency for people to check public money is not being misused.

Politicians are the most hypocritical and crooked individuals you will meet in life. To say something and act on the opposite way is normal for them, otherwise they wouldn't be politicians. If I could advice someone, I would simply tell to ignore politicians as maximum as possible. Don't waste your thoughts and energies thinking on how scammy those scumbags are.

You have no control over the situation, you can't change it, so why to think about it with frequency? You will just get stressed and frustrated for being powerless.

in the philippines, the government is trying to lower the rates of where the filipinos gamble especially in online spaces but what does it say if the very politicians trying to push for fighting against gambling are also the ones exposed for playing? is it not ironic??

That’s how powerful politicians are, that they are also the one breaking their own laws and rules, yet people can’t do nothing about it. How ironic that they discourage people from gambling online, yet they are using the taxpayers funds and maximize their gambling outcomes, that’s how deceiving and corrupt politicians are. That’s why it isn’t surprising anymore why the country’s economy continues to struggle, simply because the leaders themselves are the very reason for the country’s failure.

Such an irony that the ones pushing of a high control over such habits ate the main culprits of the habits, maybe it will help them top because they may be helpless out their habit.and because they are public figures, they will not want to put their habit out there just like that so this feels and sounds like an opportunity for them to  get their own habits in check and put some control on it too.

I think these is a good reason for this aside from how gambling is viewed by many in the society which might also affect the image of a politician, supposedly a leader to multiples when holding public office.

As a politician in office, you are always in control of public funds when well placed, these are funds that is used in the running of a jurisdiction and when mismanaged, it could lead to the suffering of the people you are meant to lead.

Now we all know how gambling could be tempting and an addictive place, should a politician taste those shores, we could as well be kissing a lot of those public funds goodbye.

You'd wonder why these politicians don't quit office honorably so that they can enjoy gambling freely like the rest of us ordinary citizens. They will rather condemn it publicly to protect their positions that is against their reputation but secretly they will gamble like everybody. I think the recent discovery about the gambling habits of those involved in the current corruption issues in the Philippines is not limited to politicians. Because those who got exposed are government employees, but in higher ranks. They too are not allowed to gamble, so they fake their identities.
I'm unsure whether it will impact the ongoing regulations in the Philippines' gambling industry. I guess casinos should also conduct a background check on the people who deal with significant amount through gambling. Those government employees spend around $100k every time they go to the casino, and those are some fraud money.

In almost every country, several people are constantly using other people's identities to gamble and are getting involved in various crimes for gambling. Gambling is still banned in several countries, but despite the ban, gambling has not stopped in any way. It seems that gambling is increasing excessively in those countries where gambling is banned. Gambling addicts of all ages are becoming more addicted to gambling, so these addicts need to be well-controlled, otherwise they will be ruined very badly.

Of course that is the life of the politician, the funny thing is that most of the casino we see today, they are the owners and are making money from it but just hide for people not to know they are the owners but comes out publicly and act as if they dont know or support gambling perhaps they own and gamble also.

It's so difficult for someone who has held a strategic position and is well-known in the public to re-enter that arena. Once It's very difficult for someone who has held or currently holds a strategic position in government to remain publicly known. Once they enter that arena, their reputation becomes compromised. As soon as they engage in activities and happen to be documented, either accidentally or intentionally, by someone. We know they are quite savvy in utilizing information technology, especially today's social media users, this becomes a topic of discussion for weeks or even months.

Worse still, the public can barely distinguish between personal money and money earned through office. That's where distrust arises. Personally I see it as safer and more comfortable if politicians should refrain from going there and completely stay away from that arena, so that there is no room for scandal in the public eye.
