I'm interesting how much gambling played a role in the adoption of cryptocurrencies by the population of this forum.

So I started a poll as I haven't found earlier ones about this topic (there is a somewhat related thread, but it doesn't include a poll). I know that early gambling platforms like SatoshiDice drove a lot of people into Bitcoin, like written here, but I would be interested in the more recent tendencies.

The question is: Did gambling play a major role when you started to use Bitcoin and/or other cryptocurrencies? Or was it at least one factor among others?

There are many possible reasons, for example privacy. Of course you can explain yours in this thread.

I discovered bitcoin when I knew it can be used for investment, but I discovered this forum before I know what bitcoin actually is. Also it was this forum that let me begin to know crypto gambling sites and one of the reasons that I stopped gambling on fiat gambling sites. But gambling is not the reason I know about this forum and neither the reason that I know about bitcoin.

No. It wasn't gambling that led me to Bitcoin. It was my brother who introduced me to this forum, and then I became interested in learning more about Bitcoin because of the features it offered. And then after a while, I learned that Bitcoin could also be used for gambling, but I personally wasn't that interested in using Bitcoin for gambling at first, because I felt it was a waste to use Bitcoin just for gambling, I'd rather use other cryptocurrencies for that.

Will gambling wasn't really a reason for the discovery cryptocurrencies like bitcoin but it actually did contribute to their growth. Take for example the earliest adoption of Bitcoin was both P2P faucets and old casinos back in the day. All these contributed to the growth of bitcoin.

Likewise bitcoin gave room for people who value a decentralized system to exercise that value so it's more of a two way thing. Casinos that don't require KYC became more prominent because of crypto currencies.

Before bitcoin and this forum, i have been on the negative perspectives about gambling and i belief back then thaz i can never win in gambling since my luck is never there, untill i became active on bitcointalk and engaging in discussions on the gambling board, i started building knowledge and skills for gambling until i developed interest for gambling.

Now i know how the risk in gambling works and how to manage myself aroud it in the most responsible possible, so for me; cryptocurrency and bitcointalk brought me into gambling and not the other way around.

Yeah, I’m proud to say that was the main reason. Back then I was looking for an easier way to gamble, especially with deposit methods, and then I found Bitcoin. It let me gamble with lower fees and gave me access to different platforms, so I fell in love with it. I used it for months until I realized it’s not just about convenience for gambling, it also opened up an investment opportunity. I explored that side, and luckily I was able to profit.

So I’d say even if I lost money in gambling, it still led me to discover a valuable investment opportunity, and that’s something I’m thankful for up to now.

I discovered and was told about bitcoins not because I was interested in gambling but when I started becoming interested in a way to get wealthy even with the little opportunities around. I asked the right questions and that landed me here. I discovered gambling as a use for cryptocurrency Bitcoin after becoming involved in this forum. To some persons who are gamblers, they got to discover bitcoins and cryptocurrencies during their search for a gambling platform with something different. Through that discovery some have become investors in bitcoin after knowing that cryptocurrency, in particular bitcoin still offers an opportunity to invest asides the gambling that was their first interest.

Gambling is one of the major reasons why Bitcoin took off, and I can say I’m part of the people who pushed Bitcoin into bigger adoption. I was already a gambler even before Bitcoin came, but I never really had the mindset of an investor. I only learned how to invest when I discovered Bitcoin, because I was impressed with decentralization.

I don’t regret using it in casinos either, since back then it was fully anonymous and no KYC, unlike now.
So yeah, gambling was the reason why I started using Bitcoin.

Gambling is the list factor that brought me to bitcoin but while the opposite bitcoin brought me to gambling more. So the fact that I was into the crypto community through computer knowledge and expertise hence gambling is probably going to be a reason why some came into bitcoin knowledge especially those in countries filled with gambling culture but then it’s more like gambling is not the the actual reason they know about it a big part of the reason. Those who seek privacy in gambling and started using offshore sites are likely to know or be involve in bitcoin related stuffs through gambling.

No, gambling was not the reason why I discovered about bitcoin. I discovered bitcoin with the help of my friend afterwards the forum. Gambling and bitcoin was all different not after participating in gambling activity using bitcoin but, at first I never intended the act of gambling with bitcoin obviously the forum played a good role. This is considered the other way round because with the help of bitcoin and cryptocurrency a lot of people got to find the use of gambling with bitcoin although few will make use of stablecoin yet doesn’t change the fact bitcoin can be use for gambling activity even during the early days.

Honestly, I discovered Bitcoin and started to get involved on this ecosystem because I wanted to have an alternative to push borderless transaction through without having any fear to get blocked or censored due to my country of origin.
I after I started getting Satoshis I discovered casinos and faucets, I got onto Freebitcoin, then another casino called coinpot, or something like that, until I finally settled for Stake.

So to me, Bitcoin came first and then Gambling came after.

It seems, for now most of participants of the survey had a similar experience to mine.

I voted for yes because partially it was one reason I discovered Bitcoin. And it's obvious though, what I mean is that it's one of the very case of Bitcoin. We have seen that before we only needed a bitcoin address for withdrawal and deposit, no KYC yet.

But in years to come, since Bitcoin + gambling goes hand in hand, crypto base gambling platform becomes the target.

However, I have the thoughts that majority of us did find out Bitcoin as ways to used in gambling and not as a investment, specially those who are hear around < 2017. But after that it, they discovered it as a investment and to make money every 4 year cycle.

I knew about bitcoin before joining this forum but I got to know more about bitcoin after joining this forum. This place has been a helpful place to learn new things in the crypto space and got more exposed to everything around cryptocurrency including bitcoin. I came to know about gambling not from this forum but outside the forum.

One of the things I got to discover about this forum is crypto gambling sites, I never knew they existed as I’m only use to fiat gambling sites that allows betting through fiat or going to a physical bet shop and gamble with your money.

Due to restrictions of some gambling sites not allowing fiat deposits, many have got to know more about crypto while using those casinos for deposit to gamble on. So that has really helped in crypto adoption more for some people that are likened to gambling and seek to try other casinos out that allows only crypto deposit.

We can't deny that fact that gambling contributed to early Bitcoin adoption more than anything else and I stand to be corrected.

I will say that so many persons discover bitcoin during the time of ponzi schemes investment, and what makes some people to go into bitcoin is investment, because most people were desperate to multiply their capital from bitcoin investment and what initiated such ideas is due to ponzi, for gambling, I believe that so many gamblers were not using bitcoin for their gambling engagement or funding their gambling accounts, but after bitcoin has made name and someof the gambling platforms started to put the option of bitcoin for gambling knowing that bitcoin is decentralized currency, in summary many people goes into bitcoin because of investment

Nah! It didn’t play any major role when I started bitcoin. I think I have shared my story before about how I always thought of bitcoin as something that only those who were wealthy could own so I had that idea of it until I finally sat and researched about it - so when I finally got my first bitcoin I kept it and didn’t even use it for anything.

My first gambling site was a local gambling site, it was very easy to deposit from out banks; so that whole thought of using crypto didn’t really cross my mind until I finally decided to start testing other sites but then I was already into crypto fully.

I started gambling little by little even long before I knew about cryptocurrency. Gambling remains as far as possible from any possible reason why I decide to adopt cryptocurrency.

Online gambling has brought about just enough comfort about the space as I would have had desires for. No doubt Bitcoin or cryptocurrency gambling does spice things up but, it’s of little importance other than using it for a means to earn some of them Bitcoin without having to buy directly with fiat or using other swap features

That’s if you are able to win often of be profitable in your gambling but, we know better how it often ends and even then, we gamble still.

Bitcoin was not created for gambling; it was included in their system due to its ease of use and privacy. I discovered Bitcoin before I started betting online.

However, it’s undeniable that the gambling industry has significantly contributed to its adoption; the majority of online casinos now include Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies in their payment systems, making it a standard feature.

So, we can say that online gamblers who are not familiar with Bitcoin will eventually learn how to use it because it’s more convenient than a bank transfer.

I'm gambling into before I knew about Bitcoin, although I was only into sports betting, which I always participated in through the physical outlet. But I was able to go deep into the gambling space, have more knowledge, and also learn about the online gambling website model of operation through Bitcoin, and this forum, which is also where I learn about Bitcoin and online gambling services.
