Steps on how we are suppose to protect our forum account with google authenticator.
I have heard about forum account being hacked in the past, people have lost their bitcointalk account to scammers, some people have lost their reputation because their accounts were hacked, and was used for illegal activity. Am sure people are still losing their accounts, and will continue to lose their forum accounts to hackers, that’s why we should make sure we protect our bitcointalk account with the 2FA authenticator which is available on the forum here for additional security.

Am sure this post will be useful for newbies that are just joining the forum. I will be providing steps on how to protect our forum accounts with 2FA.

Firstly you will have to login to your account, after that you will click on your profile, then click on Account related setting.

Then it’s going to take you to a page which I already posted the picture below, but i decided to cover some vital informations for the purpose of my account security. You are going to see a section which shows;
Two-factor authentication status
Enable two-factor authentication?
Shared secrets (Base32):
Confirmation OTP:

Your Two-factor authentication status will currently be disabled, so you will have to enable it manually, and if you want to do that, then you will have to click on the box which shows Enable two-factors authentication.

Next step is to download google authenticator, you can get it on play store or Apple Store. I do use Twilio Authy, and you can still decide to make use of Goggle authenticator.


After downloading the google authenticator, which I will be making my explanation with Twilio Authy. Click on the plus icon on the right bottom corner of your Authy when you open it to add account.

Then is either you scan QR code, and you can still decide to enter key manually.

If you decide to enter key manually, then you will click on it, and you will paste the code which you copied on the forum which is the Shared secrets (Base32), then click save.

You will be asked to enter account nickname, if you do that then click save, and you will be asked to choose logo after doing that then click save.


Then you have successfully connected your forum account to the two-factor authenticator.

You will then go back to the forum, click on profile, then click on account related settings, copy your OTP code from authenticator which will expire after 30 seconds, then paste it on the space provided on the forum which is confirmation OTP, then click on current password and input your password, then click on change profile.

I Dey sure say with this, everybody go fit add two-factor authenticator to their forum account to provide additional security to their account. Seriously we no suppose joke with with our account security, because if dem hack am, Dey come use am do bad thing, na our reputation don Dey spoil be that, so make we no just joke with our account security. If anything Dey wey I miss, Abeg make anybody add am.

If you are having any financial dealimg with anyone on this forum, it is good to ask the person to sign a message with the staked address or any addresses that he has posted before on this forum.

Op you have done very well for sharing this here in our local board, I have seen a lot of people that complain about their account being hacked and I also see account that are being given negative trust or red tag because the account was hacked from someone, having a two-factor authenticator in one's account is very good it will help protect one's account very well, I know most of us here are using one cryptocurrency exchange or the order and we know that having a two-factor authenticator to that your cryptocurrency exchange account is very important the reason why cryptocurrency exchange makes it compulsory is because of its protection that tow- factors authenticator has, it  protect your account when they try to have it, so OP you have really done well by bringing this up here I'm very sure a lot of newbies in this local board we find this information very useful and they will give in to it.

I like the post but I dey fear if I forget my authenticator or I lose my phone, how I go take login?  I no like the authenticator of my account because I get to children for house wey fit spoil my phone anytime and that one now fit make me no fit come this forum again.

Yh op good post  and I agree with what you have said this your guide will really be helpful to to many members as it will serve as a reminder to ensure the security of our forum account.To add to what you have said about the base 32 code I think is advisable for users to store that code in a safe place just like we store our seed phrase and never store it on  any digital device because that would mean you are risking your forum account .

Secondly It's will be wrong if by mistake anyone enters the 2Fa code on a Page that isn't our bitcoin forum website basically we should cross check the URL and make sure it's correct.Lastly no good website will every ask for your 2Fa code via your email........

You will be given a shared secret (Base32) which you will need to backup. Go to you profile, account related settings to see it under 2-factor authenticator.

There is online backup on Google authenticator but I do not tell people to do that if they will not be careless with offline backup. I do not trust anything that is online.

You should first of all appreciate his idea before all this your criticism. If two of una na newbie, e no mean say he no get wetin he know wey you no know and na that thing wey he know wey you no know wey you suppose focus on instead of to dey talk say two of una na newbie. Anyways, for your children matter, anytime you get new gadgets, you fit return all your accounts to that gadget whether phone or PC. Google authenticator na just one for every single Google account of which every body gets at least one Google account.

In such situation, if you change your device, first of all log in your Google account and also update your Google authenticator. Your email address wey you carry create this forum get en own password and recovery accounts. So you fit log am in for any devices and na even the two step authentication go help you make random person no get access to your forum account.

About the image wey he share, thank goodness say you dey aware say na newbie, so manage am like that. Na to learn wey all of us dey do here. Me too don learn better thing now from this post. Make we dey try understand say even for naija, many people dey wey no Sabi speak pidgin.

If u check when I create my account, then you go see say no be today I create account here, I don sabi forum since, I Dey always check around but I no Dey post. Also if you check my account, you go see say I no be newbie again self, I be junior member, and na since 2023 na him I don create dis account, so knowledge wey I get about dis forum, plenty newbies wey just Dey join forum no get am.

To make things clear well na y I use d size wey I use, and I no see say d image too big, maybe na from ur phone, also if you Dey try make correction, try Dey make recommendation. As you see say the size big, then you for just suggest give me d best size wey I go use, but u no talk go that side.

This is a great one from you op, you have done absolutely well on reminding and educating us once again on how to secure the account we put in so much energy and sacrifice in building,  there are so many folks out there ready and waiting to get hold of other people's treasures instead of looking forward to secure theirs, so the least any experiences folks in the system can do is to protect what matters to them most so they wouldn't fall victim of scammers.

Thank you for the steps, although when I been login I see that section wey dem provide to put code but e come confused me small because that section been no dey before, e good to put authenticator but sometimes if we lost our phone or lose access to our authentication app how we go take get back we access to our profile. Although I hear say to stake account dey important but I never too know how to stake that wallet of a thing.
E go better to secure am that way than using this authentication code because if you lose access to the code e go worry to access your profile.
