In Nigeria, many youths struggle so much financially as adults and graduates. It's no news that jobs in our country are for those with connections, and a few of those who acquired high paying skills. Obtaining jobs were already difficult enough, and now, with the current economy, it's way worse.
What do you think is the biggest challenge youths face in employment and how can it be addressed ?

In my opinion I think the biggest challenge is nepotism, just as you have talked about the jobs are mainly for those with connections. Do you know that sometimes when you see a job posting, it's just for formality because they already know those that they want to employ , they just put the post out to fulfill all righteousness. Most times the jobs are not giving to the most qualified person, rather its giving to those with connections. There is a saying in Nigeria that say "know who know person", this already explains it all. In conclusion I think the only way forward is if this can be stopped and everyone should be giving equal opportunity, but I really wonder if this can ever be possible I'm our country.

One of the major problems affecting youth in every countries is unemployment, which is the primary cause of insecurity, hardship and other related issues affecting the country. Youth employment is one of the propelling force towards achieving economic growth, a country with a failed economic system ends up causing chaos which can be caused to bad government.
A country may have all it takes the eradicate unemployment but may not be able to archive it due to corrupt political representatives minding the affairs of the country, Once all attention is channelled in embezzling public funds it may end up destroying the countries economy giving room for increase in unemployment rate, so to avoid all this good economic system should be practiced so there will be job opportunities that could reduce unemployment rate in a country.

The number of job seekers is increasing day by day. After graduation, many are spending time searching for jobs and adding themselves to the unemployment statistics. This problem is becoming increasingly serious because our country's education system is not job oriented enough. If the education system had been modernized over time, the number of unemployed would not have increased so much. The main obstacle behind modernization is the economic crisis. However, the most important thing is that the size of the proposed budget for the education sector in 2025 has been set at 5.47 trillion Nepalese rupees, which is 9.27% of the national budget. However, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has recommended that developing countries allocate 15% - 20% of their budget to the education sector, compared to which our country's budget is relatively low. The budget for the education sector needs to be increased and the government needs to take a far-sighted decision to introduce a job-oriented education system. https://africa.businessinsider.com/local/lifestyle/top-10-nigerian-states-with-the-highest-education-budget-for-2025/chn9qqn

The biggest challenge the youth face in employment is the fact that, there are lots of skilled and people that are available to work, yet there are no employment opportunities for them. The issue of unemployment in Nigeria is one of biggest challenge we face as a country, first we don't have industrial revolution, so basically we don't have electricity that can sustain industries across the country, so we have less manufacturing industries, and manufacturing is one of the biggest sectors that can absorb a lot of persons that are unemployed, this is the major reason there is less job opportunity and the few jobs that are available is been struggled upon by those that have access to, either for it to be given to their kins.

Youth unemployment is the real struggle in the families, communities and the economy. The problem is that there is no job opportunities for the skilled ones and even the ones that went to school. Even with their certificates, there's still no way for them to get employed because in our contemporary society, it's only on connection. When a youth does not have job opportunities this leads to frustration, poverty, and involving in crimes or making them search for better pathway some where else and for the economy this will cause low productivity, slow growth of the economy and also lesser spending. How can this be addressed, I will say that let the government and business owners work hand in hand to create job potentials for the youth, because some will go to school and later discover that what they study is not in line with what the employer wants. Giving them the support they need, the tools and a balanced environment they will desire to turn their energy into growth for the families communities, themselves and the economy.

Maybe the biggest challenge for youths in Nigeria when it comes to getting jobs is not only that there aren’t enough opportunities, but the fact that the system itself isn’t fair. Even when someone has the right qualifications, most times it’s about who you know and not what you know. That alone discourages a lot of young people and makes them feel like all their efforts in school don’t matter.
Another problem is skills. Many graduates focus only on certificates without having practical skills that are actually needed in today’s world. If this continues, even when jobs are available, most youths can’t fit into them.
To really address this, there has to be more transparency in recruitment both in government and private companies. At the same time, youths need to focus on building skills outside of what they studied, things like tech, entrepreneurship, and hands on training. If both sides change, at least the struggle won’t be as heavy and young people will have a fairer chance.

Is so tiring how someone will go to the university and come out looking for job and won’t see any because of lack of unemployment in our country. The best thing to do while in school or before going to school is to learn a skill and be self employed on your own, when you have a handwork you are good at, you don’t have to start looking for who to employ you any longer except maybe you have someone in a position to employ you. And now most employment has been through connection in our country, is either the management is from your state, region and relatives etc if not you won’t have a job. So is advisable to be self employed before graduating from the university.

The problem of unemployment is a long time thing in Nigeria and we all know why it is like that. Our leaders are not helping matter and they don't even care about the suffering of the masses. In Nigeria, there's incredible rise in the birth rate leading to exponential increase in population of the country. With little or no job provided by the government, many households don't find any space to work at any time. So it would be better if you plan on how to get your self engaged in one thing or another that will be giving you small money. Learning skills is a good thing and more reliable. There are many skills anybody can learn and then let's just forget the government and their bad leadership. Nigerian youths are hard working and that is the best mindset anyone should keep.

This is the biggest problem of our country. Our country has skilled manpower but there is a shortage of work, as a result many educated boys are unemployed and despite having the desire to do something for the country, they are not able to do so. The government is not able to provide adequate employment due to lack of money. You are right that the industrial revolution has not happened in our country yet, therefore due to lack of modern equipment, the production system has not improved and it is not able to keep pace with the world. However, the most optimistic thing is that modern equipment is entering the agricultural sector and its expansion is happening. If the supply of electricity can be facilitated and the transportation system can be improved, it is possible to change the scenario of the country in a very short time

In my own opinion I would say that the biggest challenge youth’s face in employment is the incompatibility between education and useful skills, now to address this issue we need to renovate the educational system, make it more practical to prioritize entrepreneurial expertise while giving out good coaching services to generate authentic opportunities. We can also address this issue by providing and creating mentorship networks and support to local tech startups.

To be honest there are so many and countless numbers of jobs( I mean white collared jobs), but then Nepotism and Favouritism has made it seem as if there aren't any jobs for the youths. In the country today, most times, until you know someone before you can be given a very good job placement, and this has made job opportunities to be given to those that are not even qualified- mentally, skill wise, physical etc... So it's best that the youth stop hoping on the government cos doing so is just like a total waste of time. They should venture into one skill on the other, improve on it and then use it to help themselves and their family.

We often blame the government for not getting jobs but I have seen many talented job seekers who got jobs very easily. Most government jobs are based on their own talent. How physically fit and hardworking a person is is also checked before taking the job. I am not denying you completely, many people get appointed in government jobs through nepotism but their number is not very large. If you are not very talented and physically weak then it is better not to expect a government job. You should try to find an alternative source of income through your own efforts.

The biggest challenge the young people do face when it comes to employment and how to address that? Well that's quite a question to ask because I believe that the biggest challenge majority of us the Nigerian youths face when it comes to the issue of employment is the system itself. The system consists a mix of corruption, poor skill alignment, lack of structure, lack of proper motivation, lack of transparency and accountability among several other reasons are the cause of the system failure we experience today which is the major factor why employment has taken an entirely different dimension for a while now. To be able to bring this to an end or at least salvage the situation, there will be need for a serious reform from the side of the government in both education and job creation. The government and the private sector will need to invest in a combine efforts towards addressing more skill based trainings and mentorship programs that has a direct alignment with the real industry demands. The government must also create a solid mechanism that will strongly on board recruitments monitor the processes and allow it to do the selection process without fear or favor.

I disagree to the word countless job opportunities but accept few job opportunities that are singled out for their children and friend but not given out on merit. The estimated numbers of students that graduated from 2010 till now is over 9.7 million citizens, the question now is how many government esterblishment do you think have being completed from 2010 till now that can offer employment to all the graduated students apart from Dangote's refinery and fertiliser, few sea pots and few project that over 50 percent of their workers are even India's and Chinese. After putting all this into consideration you will agree with me that the political representatives we have in Nigeria are not interested in building the nation but only building their financial life through stealing public funds and converting public properties to theirs.

Truth be told that as the country is getting worse day by day, they should also look forward to double their hustles and not depend on the government for jobs because the government have their own problems to think as they have all forgotten most of their duties. Actually as a good citizen of Nigeria, you should also have a good skill to support yourself and not just depend on your certificates because there's no job in the country. The little ones you see are given to selected people just as you have said.

Youth face significant employment challenges including a skills mismatch with the job market, lack of work experience, and insufficient economic opportunities. Other obstacles include high competition, informal and unstable jobs with low pay, difficulty accessing capital for entrepreneurship, and a lack of effective labor market information systems. Remedy: there should be a skill program organise by government after graduation in the area of each discipline to enable the youth master the skills in their field of study
