Jaron “Boots” Ennis is back on Oct 11 in Philadelphia, but this time he’s moving up to junior middleweight (154 lbs) to face Uisma Lima. The fight will be live on DAZN.

Important note: this is not a title defense. Ennis still holds the IBF welterweight belt at 147, but this matchup is a WBA final eliminator at 154. Meaning, if he wins, he gets in line for a shot at the WBA world title in this new division.

Thanks for this, I never thought that Boots has a fight. And if my memory serves me right, he was a sparring partner of Canelo for Alvarez fight with Crawford. So it looks like Ennis has enough training already. However, I'm not familiar with his opponent in Lima. And looking at the rankings, Lima is somewhat on the #9 ranking? So how come this is going to be a title eliminator? I thought that a eliminator is #1 vs #2? Number one in this division is obviously Ennis, but the second rate boxer is Pavel Sosulin. So they skipped a lot of boxers for this so called eliminator. And it looks like the WBA wanted Ennis to be their champion here. Because if Ennis wins they he will face the champion in Abass Baraou, another boxer that is not familiar to us.

I'm sure he can; that's only a few pounds added to his body, based on what I saw in his previous matches. He can add more muscles and be comfortable fighting in the next weight division, which is the Junior Middleweight.

Ennis is underrated in the welterweight division because he has not fought credible opponents in that division. I don't think Lima can offer any resistance against Ennis, but this is a good fight for Ennis now that he is in the Junior Middleweight division. I love to see him fight for the title.

Maybe one reason is that the current division is very weak, that's why there are no money fights for him. He is still chasing Crawford at 147-154 lbs. But we all know that Crawford is too big now, in terms of popularity. And he said that he doesn't want to fight Ennis, not that he is afraid, but there are no rewards for him.

He might have bulk up because he was the sparring partner of Alvarez. Yes, I do agree, him and Fundora will be a great match and we will see if Boots is the real deal fighting champions or even the likes of Vergil Ortiz.

But let's see if he can go and beat Lima to make his stock grow a little.

In that case, I think we should wait first for the outcome of Fundora’s fight with Thurman, because I believe it’s not going to be an easy one. After that, if Fundora can prove he’s really a champion, then we’ll see if Ennis decides to move up and face him, just like how Crawford did.

I always thought that when a title belt holder fights in a different weight category(doesn't matter if it is a title match or not), they would need to give up their belt before they could fight in a different weight category. I wonder if Ennis wins, will he finally let go of his belt to get a chance to fight Abass Baraou in junior middle weight.

Between the two, Ennis is the toughest and has more skills; he can totally dominate the welterweight given the chance. He's been chasing Crawford, but he moved out of the division.

This is going to be a walk in the park for Ennis. The junior middleweight division is a challenging one for him, and if Fundora wins his match against Thurman, he can potentially challenge him.
However, this is a WBA eliminator, with Abass Baraou as the champion. They can only meet if Ennis beats Abass Baraou and unifies the title.

It's the face-off between the two, and with the way this thread is going, it seems that Ennis is not yet a house hold name in boxing. Although he is the champion, but it looks like majority here are not familiar with him. Hopefully, if he gives up a good showing here, maybe his name can gain some reputation.

Basing on the replies on this thread, it seems that there are no hype on Boots Ennis himself. Because if he did, then even if his dance partner is unknown, at least some boxing fans might have to comment here and give their analysis of the fight.

And most likely Boots is going to win. And hopefully he will face two of the biggest name at '54 witch is Fundora (who will have a fight against Thurman), and then Vergil Ortiz. Maybe Boots is taking is slowly and wanted to have the belt before facing either or even Xander Zayas.

I also never thought that the fight will end this fight. Those who bought that tickets might not be satisfied as they didn't get their money's worth. But we all know from the very beginning that this could be a one sided fight.

Most of us never heard of Lima before, and Ennis is a champion at 147 lbs but then decided to move up in weight because there's no much challenge for him at the welterweight although he has been calling Crawford for the longest time.

Oops, this thread only made it to one page.. not a lot of fans seemed interested in watching this fight, lol. as we saw, it ended in the first round, and it’s obvious Ennis was way too strong for his opponent. the bookies definitely predicted this one right.

Not sure what was the odds were for Ennis to win by first-round ko, but i bet it was over +100 since nobody expected it to end that quick.

Anyway, congrats to Ennis.

Or sports bookies get it right as it is very easy to predict that this fight is going to be in favor of Boots Ennis. And even if they try to build the hype that Lima is a good competition, we all know that it's not true. Perhaps this is just a getting to feel what 154 lbs are and it's a perfect match for Ennis to show his power. Eddie Hearn is very happy that his boy won this very easy as he could see $$$ in the horizon.

As others have said, if he calls Vergil Ortiz then give them a contract and let Vergil sign it. There's nothing better to proved your name that you belong to the big boys and that Ennis is the man at 154 lbs.

If boxers and their managers and promoters did not avoid fights with the other best boxers in their weight divisions or near their weight divisions, we can be quite certain that we have witnessed Bud Crawford vs. Boots Ennis or Errol Spence vs. Boots Ennis.

I have mentioned this before already, where I said that Bud and Errol were the kings of welterweight and Boots Ennis is the 3rd king hehehe. This was many years before when Bud and Errol were the champions before the unification.

do you think it’s possible for Errol Spence to make a comeback and face Ennis? I’m pretty sure Bud won’t move down anymore, especially now that he became an undisputed champion after beating Canelo. I’m just curious - if that fight ever happens, who would you side with, Ennis or Errol?

I don’t see Al Haymon ever allowing that fight to happen unless they can get Ennis to sign with PBC. Spence is at a point in his career where he should be fighting other guys that are past their prime also like Thurman, Charlo or Tim Tszyu. If he ever faces Ennis it will not end well for him. He might earn a lot of money, but he will also get another severe beating. A fight with Pacquiao would also be a better option for Spence, with much less risk and higher reward.
