I don't know if I am to blame the government or individuals.
There is no actively sensible means of currency or savings in most countries that remains reliable, hence most people are losing money not gaining it while working.
In the past you had one working wage per household, now most often there is two and still there is not the means to do well often, hence the recognition that too many peoples are struggling.
It can also be that people are wasting too much money but its also the case that the common currency is flawed and subject to frequent inflation, that benefits government debt and deficit in their fiscal budget.
You'd think this would be a problem for everyone but its less of a problem for those with asset wealth, sometimes people realize the economy is biased to the retired over the working and it wont be those retired with no assets but people who are not working but have asset wealth gain from the bias to the system. Same as companies or any large entity, its a bias which benefits them and can destroy working people especially the working poor.
Its been true for decades and been called out by many but if anything its getting worse with the gradient of debt accumulation growing steeper, there's no chance of reducing the debt or running a balanced budget in most countries. Right now there is a ramp up towards defence or war depending how you view it which is money taken from the countries population to buy weapons that will kill those same populations paying for them.
