Just curious. Could I know why this report was marked as bad?

So, we have this newbie thread on Meta asking about something very basic.

I am a very new person in this forum. Sir I want to know about some codes like how to make a banner or avatar for literacy campaign with the help of codes. Please help me with some ideas on how to do this.

Someone could argue that is so basic that it is low value. But in my case, when I saw it I reported it to be moved to Beginners and Help, which I understand is a reasonable move, not to be too tough on the newbie. Now I see that the thread is still here and the report has been marked as “bad.”

I really wonder if that wasn't a mistake by the moderator.

Any special reason why that basic (not to say low value) thread should stay here and not be moved to B&H (or even trashed)?

It is something about this forum. What is about this forum should be on Meta.

It might just be a difference in how some moderators interpret “basic” posts. Some leave them untouched if they don’t see harm while others move them to keep sections tidy.

The “bad” mark can be a bit misleading, it doesn’t always imply the report was invalid, just that no action was taken.

 Finally, I think it wasn’t removed because the question itself relates to this forum and anything that’s about the forum is usually kept on the Meta board.

I read the post of the user and what i captured in the post is ''i want to know'' which i highlighted in his post below. I think anything that has to do with a member wanting to know about anything in the forum can be suitable either in the beginners & help section or the META board hence your report was marked as bad (i may be wrong though), but about trashing the post; it doesn't deserve to be trashed!

As far as I believed, that user was asking for the method to create signature banners with codes, since he wrote codes, it's obvious it's the signature space! And signature is a part of this forum! Isn't it? And everything related to forum stays in Meta! So, even if the question was very basic, I guess it's in the right place!

Last resort would be asking the mod, who is in charge of B&H board.

Beginner and Help is for information purposes, helping people understand and learn things about the forum and other things. Meta is also a place where you can ask any question concerning whatever you want to learn about the forum as well.

It all depends on the moderator who handles the report; the thread is suitable for anywhere as long as it concerns learning, especially when it concerns some code language.

The Op in question was asking for help in the forum and such thread were seen in the service board. Meta Board should be respected and such thread should not be here but in the service board. And that is where people render service and the question is a kind request to learn. If he is from a local board and someone there can render the service for him. It is good and if it is not then it is best suited in the service section. That is not a forum related topic or request but a personal request. Let the service board serve that purpose.

I don't see any basic reason why that thread should be on the meta board, the B&H board that you reported it to be moved to is suitable for the thread, the meta board is usually for more serious discussion on issues relating to the forum and not mostly this kind of topic which is often found on the B&H board. The moderator that handled the report must have thought otherwise since the inquiry he made was about learning how to design signature on the forum, but am not in favour of the post fitting in on this board.

That thread does not belong in Meta. I think it was a reasonable request if you asked for it to be removed. I am unsure why it would have been deemed to be a 'bad' report when asking for it to be moved to Beginners & Help. What you did was a more lenient request whereas I would have preferred the thread be locked as the OP is probably part of an account farm.

You are partially right, sometimes people contradicts where to create a thread that concerns forum, beginners and help section, is a section  that gives Tips of forum, is also meant for introduction and learning by asking a question for something you're unaware to..

My take is that some posts can comfortably fit in more than one board and as such we will rely on the moderators discretion.
But to me, the post is more BH related than meta, considering it's low quality.

If no action was taken it could have been marked " unhandled"  not "bad" as reported by the OP. Good reports are marked as " good" bad reports are marked as " bad" while  pending/ignored reports are marked as " unhandled "

The post in question fits better in both boards ( Meta and B&H)

I did not think something as simple as this would be so confusing to forum members. How you figured that the post belongs to the Service board amazes me. In my opinion, the topic is better suited to Beginners & Help board. I also think the mod maybe could have left the report unhandled instead of marking the report as bad.

In my experience, Meta is the most lenient board on the forum, with the highest chance of reports being marked "Bad". At least a Mod locked it now.

Nah...the thread doesn't belong to service board because he's asking to learn about signature codes and not rendering a service. You can only post in the servics board when you are rendering a service to the community. Meta or B&H board suits the post.

You see, I've been on the forum for a few years and I hadn't realized that yet. Well, in any case, if that thread is locked, I think it's time to lock this one. I didn't think it was appropriate to leave that thread open in this section but now it is solved.

Now that Free Market Capitalist unlocked the thread, I can add an update here.

I reported that thread citing that in my view that it was a farmed account making a low quality post and that the thread should be locked. I did not ask for it to be moved to the Beginners & Help board. A short while later the thread was locked.
