The question then is, of all the needs the government is supposed to provide, how many of it are they providing? we are literally left at a spot where we are responsible for our survival and only see government helping out ones in a while. even though we have given government some level of power and right over us, each and every one of us is first responsible for his life.

Sit and wait for government to come help do the things you should be doing for yourself and you gladly opens a part to poverty that will last a generation. in most places, government are first thinking about themselves before thinking about the public interest, you do not risk it this much depending entirely on them when you know they are mostly after themselves.

In 20 years back when the Chinese government never recognized their responsibilities the rate of poverty was over 60 percent making China one of the poorest countries then but after mind transformation in there  political system, they transformed China reducing the rate of poverty to as low as 15 percent which they are still working towards eliminating it to zero. One thing that should be done by our governments is providing stepping stone for citizens to stand from.

The government was never meant to provide our(personal) needs.
We voted for them to provide and improve our basic needs like health care, electricity, good road, education, and reduce inflation at all cost because that's literally what determines the quality of lives that the majority can afford to get no matter the income. But what do we find today?, they find excuses and complain that these things are too difficult to provide, but still choose to remain in power.

The only way we can assist the government, since some of them have failed to do the needful, is to work our ass out to help ourselves. The idea of being entitled in this 21st century is a crazy one. Living above average is already a plus to the society.

Our taxes and a law abiding citizen is what our government needs. Now, we need them more than the government needs us. If they're going to help us through the services that we need and also the incentives that they should give us, it's for sure that a country will be in a better state helping each other. The Government has there obligations since they run the economy of  the country,the citizens also have their roles to play. It's a joint task for betterment of the country.  Government are meant to provide security and social amenities to assist every members of the country to strive.  Once the government take care of their obligations, the citizens will find a way to support the government by engaging in skills that will help the economy.

Although I hear that in some developed countries their government have certain stipends that they pay to medically unfit people and jobless persons but it is not so in my country. The primary responsibility of a government to it's citizens is to provide basic amenities like good road and protect them with security. I think the duty of a government is to protect lifes and properties of the people and provide essential needs and services but what is paramount to me is that they have to provide the necessary environment for the people so that where they stop then the people can sustain it. I don't think any government can provide all her people's need but what they can do is to prepare the people to take care of needs that they are not able to. It is a matter of necessity for government to provide good roads including railways, air and water for transportation, electricity, employment, water, security, better standard of living etc but within those social amenities that government can provide, you still have to be vigilant to protect yourself and give security information when you get one. You still have to diversify your earning power to be able to live a fulfilling life.
